Why not move the guys all up and then bring in the coach @ Lalumiere to fill the spot and help as a recruiter for 3 years? I only mention this as there is talk of Hunter going there. And I know Painter wants Hunter....plus besides him this is a great local source of talent Painter should tap into better IMO.

Other ideas?

Interesting idea since that is the most logical jump for HS coaches trying to break into the college ranks.

Regarding Hunter - if you haven't read the article from Greg Doyle (Purdue fan favorite) about Tindley Prep - I would be surprised if he left. What that school has going for their students and the family bonds those kids have, would be hard to see it happening.

Maybe Hunter will start a trend of bucking the prep school route and stay local.

Find the highest rated player who has even a sniff of wanting to come to Purdue....see if his dad can coach...hire dad as part of a package deal for the son...release dad after son is done.

(Total TIC btw)

Somehow I really doubt that those kids go to Lalu because of the coach. What's his name again? I think they go prep for the added experience and exposure. Just my 2.

I think Lowe is the obvious choice.

Younger coach to help with player/recruit relations. Hard worker, Purdue guy. From the region, to help with recruiting that area.

Does a guy like Lowe stay onboard as an "assistant video coordinator" for four years without the thought that he would have inside track to an open assistant position?

all we need is an upload file feature,
then users can post their resume and we can even have a fan vote to nominate the top candidate!
In all seriousness, there are a few people on here who consistently demonstrate deep knowledge and understanding of the game -- tjreese and Dakota Girl leap to mind. Dakota Girl would have the inside track, though, since she may know Matt better as evidenced by her eating Cheetos with him during last year's Masters.

I wonder if Brantley would consider going with Owens if he was offered the associate head coach position? Probably not, but it would be unique for us to have to hire two assistants at once. Obviously, Lowe will probably go with Owens if we don't make him an offer. I hope we retain Lowe.

I believe Lowe is gone. If it was a lower assistant who left, maybe Painter gives him a promotion.

Since it was the associate head coach, Painter needs someone with experience. I'm sure Kenny will be great but we can't afford the potential learning curve.

With that said I have to think Painter has met with Bobinski to get an understanding on salary range to stay competitive.

I am all about playing strategy to increases the odds for success

1) Hire 1 of the recruiter from Baylor, Oregon, Florida St, or Gonzaga. These stupid schools are not among one of those blue blood strong programs and should not have any business to recruit elite talents, but they can do it. I don't know how they do this, but Purdue definitely can learn something positive from these guys.
2) Hire an African American coach that knows how to talk well. If he grew up in a poor family, that's a bonus.
3) Hire Tom Crean, yep. He has proven himself that he can recruit great talent. I believe he is strong strategist to survive this long.

Jim Shannon, New Albany HS head coach, if he can bring Romeo with him.

Tindley HS coach, Bob Wonnell, might be good to look at. Will help with Indiana recruiting (specifically Hunter) and he is a heck of a coach.

I would like to take a run at Fife too. Make him an offer he can't refuse. He is one of the best recruiting assistants out there.

A third option would be a family member or coach of McCoy. He would be a one year rental, but would give us a shot at a title. He is that kind of player. Athletic rim protector. Exactly what we will need to make the next step for next year.

Hey....I'm hearing Colin Kapernick is coming to your Vikings.
Negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full. Vikes are in the process of signing Case Keenum as we speak. Bradford, Keenum backing up, Teddy rehabbing. That should kill the Kapernick rumors.

And any chance of winning games this year.

Crean. He can recruit and Painter can coach; a dynamic duo! Plus the IU board would decend to the 7th level of hell. That alone may be worth it. :p

It all depends on the O-line. It was bad at the start of last year and they were 5-0. Then they lost 4 starters on that bad line and replaced them with worse. So fixing that is the key.
I think they will be in the playoffs.

John Groce.....there's a couple of articles that Archie is talking to him about being an assistant coach at IU.

If Groce is an option, and would give us a shot at Tilmon, should be the number one option. It would only be for a year or two, which is fine. Give him a really big one year contract. He can recruit and a shot at an All-American big man next year would make all of the difference. I am not sure he would take an assistant coach job, but if he did indeed go to IU and bring some of those Illinois recruits that would be a very bad thing for Purdue.

I'll give my degrees back if that happens. I have few morals but this would be one violated.

Groce is an Indiana guy. Grew up in Danville, went to Taylor University. My guess a good offer and he's all in as an assistant, especially at IU or PU. He was rumored to have the Dayton job, but that didn't happen. I think it would be a great hire.

Just want to point out how totally absurd your second point is and how it comes across as prejudiced and subtly racist. Then I read your third point and realized you were just a total simpleton.

Well, the Bears just paid some unknown 2nd/3rd string giraffe $44 million to replace Cutler. When I think they can't get any dumber in Chicago.....BAM!
Seems like a bad move but the draft doesn't look like it has great qb's either. Tough spot for the Bears.

I think their line is OK, not great. Cutler wasn't taking you anywhere, time to cut bait.
Did you see this:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Relatives of Pro Football Hall of Famer Gale Sayers say the Chicago Bears legend has been diagnosed with dementia.

His wife, Ardythe Sayers, tells The Kansas City Star that her 73-year-old husband was diagnosed four years ago and she blames Sayers' football career. He played for the Bears from seven seasons starting in 1965 after setting records at the University of Kansas.

Ardie Sayers and the rest of the family had made no secret of his condition, but hadn't shared it publicly. In 2013, he asked to withdraw a lawsuit filed against the National Football League and a helmet maker that claimed they failed to prevent repeated head injuries. The lawsuit contended that Sayers claimed he suffers headaches, occasional short-term memory loss and other cognitive deficits because of chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
