Penn State played a crap WV team, Kent State, and Bowling Green. And they nearly lost to Bowling Green. Is that better than WIU, FIU, and Charlotte? Sure. But not by much, and PSU is thought to be a lock with their loss to OSU on the books, and they haven't obliterated lesser teams.

I think the takeaway may be that their aren’t enough P4 one loss and two loss with big win teams to fill 12 spots.

The lowest a one loss P4 team has ever been ranked at the end of a season is 7th.
why are you defending Indinia?

In a weird way, perhaps Purdue sucking keeps iu out of the playoff:
Here's how: iu gets smoked by OSU 45-10. Purdue takes a 31-7 beating at MSU.
PU comes to iu at 1-10, one of the worst teams in P5 to add on to iu's already crap SOS.
Maybe is makes the Purdue game irrelevant to iu? If iu loses. obviously they're out. If iu spanks Purdue, well, big deal, congrats on beating another bad team with your bad SOS.

The ESPN playoff calculator has IU as 96% likely in, a percentage likelihood that incorporates IU as a 13.5 underdog at OSU and (I would expect) a 20+ point favorite at home against Purdue.

In other words, if IU loses to OSU by two touchdowns and beats Purdue by 20-ish, they're in. If they exceed those expectations they're in with a good seed. If they massively underperform to those expectations the 96% goes down.

This IU team does not and will not get blown out by anyone. This coaching staff, sure all JMU but the OL coach, and players are use to winning. They have won 24 of their last 25 games and I don't care where they came from. If this was the type of team that is going to or was going to get blown out ... down faster than ever 10-0 on the road at MSU ... would have been the time. Not playing well, dropped passes they normally catch in the scUM game ... past IU teams would have folded and lost. This team and coaches mentally are nothing like past IU teams.

You are right though, no matter how much IU beats Purdue .. it will not matter to the committee ... OSU game is the deciding factor for them to decide and the only other way for them to blow it is to lose the Purdue game.

I agree for a team like Purdue…but if you’re a Texas, UGA, Ohio State, etc. and they’ll let you in with 1-2 losses and a meh OOC schedule every year…why wouldn’t you just do that?

If IU loses say by 10 and still gets in…why wouldn’t they continue to schedule the sisters of the blind forever? No consequences for scheduling 3 auto wins. I’d immediately do the same.
Indiana still has to play 9 conference games. Next year's conference schedule is...
Illinois
Michigan State
UCLA
Wisconsin
Iowa
Maryland
Oregon
Penn State
Purdue

Out of conference doesn't even matter when most years you're playing a schedule like that.

Great teams are supposed to be at and dominate bad teams right? This wouldn't be a discussion if it were Ohio State, Texas, Bama, Michigan, Georgia etc.

IU may well make the playoffs. I'm sure I haven't kept up with the speculation like all their fans in this thread. My opinion will remain the same no matter what happens and that's nobody with their schedule should be in unless they beat Ohio State. It sends a really bad message to all of college football.

So if ESPN says they'll get in, that's great for them.

We can all leave it at that and just see how it plays out. Good luck.

Should Georgia get in with 2 losses while playing UMASS this week? Or Bama playing Mercer last week? What kind of message does that send to college football? Oregon's first game was with Idaho a team that IU opened with in 2023.

I haven't done an in depth analysis of all the schedules but I have looked at a SOS list that shows IU is 100+ and I think the worst of the others was something like 53. And I happen to be aware of IU buying out the Louisville game. That's the basis for my opinion. I'm sure you have your reasons why that shouldn't matter and something else should and that's fine. You have no doubt looked more at it than I have because I don't care nearly as much.

To say they have played a mediocre schedule is even debatable. They currently sit behind no less than 36 non-P4 teams in SOS without a single opponent with at least 1 AP Top 25 vote on game day. It's extraordinary. #5 is laughable. A win vs OSU would change things. An epic close loss might be enough. Anything other than that they should be out.

As you miss the point.

Can’t play 3 awful teams in OOC. Then compounded by playing 1 team with a winning record thus far. Of course it effects perception and perception is reality until the season is over and resumes are set.

UGA is playing Umass but also a 7 win GA Tech team and a likely 10 win Clemson team.

If you can’t see the difference in that vs playing Charlotte, Western Illinois and FIU…I can’t help you.

Im not a dumbass if that is what you are trying to say. My point was SEC teams also play shit teams. I DONT like IUs preconference schedule in football or basketball. Tom Allen sold out the UL game to save his job. The NON next year is no better than this year. It is what it is. Im not the coach nor the AD. I can see the difference in GAs schedule. I watch 14 hours of football, split screens big screens whatever, every Saturday and have for years.

Plus we were talking NON conference games NOT the whole B1G schedule. Yet I understand your frustration, it's obvious and so bad that I turned your game off about a minute before halftime. Enjoy

I’m a UGA alum bud. I get to watch plenty of real football. Enough to know you haven’t played anybody all year. Youll get your chance tomorrow. I actually think IU is a good team and will absolutely hang and has an OK chance to win tomorrow.

That said, if you can’t beat the 1 top 25 team in your schedule and you bought out of the other one…you can’t seriously think you deserve the playoff after beating 10 teams with losing records.

Well looks like they are either going to beat OSU or play it close so they will be in the playoffs.

Overall, the B10 has been a big disappointment this season. Outside of the top 4 teams, there has been a big drop off. Teams that are typically good (Mich, MSU, Wisc, Nebr, Iowa, USC and Wash) are all having a down year. Purdue, NW and UCLA are all atrocious.

IU has had a very fortunate season in playing many of these teams and playing the worse of them on the road. This saturday will be the first time they will play a ranked team and in a very hostile environment.

I think there are teams from other conferences that will have a stronger resume to get into the playoffs.
UCLA isn't bad

esp w/ the conference getting tougher w/ the addition of PAC 12 teams

If IU blows their shot at the playoffs today they are going to take it out on us next Saturday. I was hopeful if they had the playoffs or a BTCG to look forward to they might pull players earlier to avoid potential injury.

They will be able to win by as much as they want to and I'm starting to think that number is going to be historic.

Reality slapped them around today and yeah, they are going to hang 70+ on us as a result.

If it is what is needed to FINALLY get rid of CRW, then so be it.

Still hoping they bring some semblance of pride to the Bucket Game, but CRW has demonstrated ZERO ability to either game plan OR motivate….

Last time I checked, these two are what you’d call “prerequisites” for a head football coach 🤮🤮

Very true. I honestly think most of the players just want the season over so they can transfer.

congrats on beating that football power UMASS yesterday.

IU strength of schedule now at 51. ND strength of schedule now at 78 with a loss to Northern Illinois in South Bend.

How about congratulations on the win resume? Texas, Tennessee and Clemson should all be 10 win teams.

How many of those does IU have?
It is not unusual to have clownpants fans on this forum desperately seeking some bizarre form of validation, but why does a dawg alum spend time here? Dual degrees?

Amazing what playing a team with a pulse will do.
Gonna drop like a rock after the upcoming weekend…
