Appleby is Transferring

Trying to remember when Austin was ever more than Hype. He didn't win in HS. Sorry but f you cannot lead your HS team to victory you don't belong in a D1 school.
10 win Florida disagrees.
Fact is regardless of his initial talent level or potential the coaching staff did not develop him one bit. Same with Etling, same with Blough (so far). If you've paid attention their best games in general have occurred when they received the least attention from Shoop & Co.

Appleby was an ok QB recruit. He had some accolades, but also didn't really have offers to go with those. He's not exactly lacking in size or anything that would "scare off" programs.

Winners win. Brees was a winner. Look at all the intangibles you want, but the one recruiters forget is "WINNING"

Appleby will be there to support Franks and Treon. But I would rather be 3rd string at Florida too. Listen Appleby was a myth. He was never as good as we wanted nor talented enough to get there.

False. They want Del Rio to fill in the gap. They really want to shirt Franks. He's basically option 4 if Harris doesn't get better.

Where are you getting that info? Have you seen the kid play. No way you redshirt this kid, cause he isn't playing four years anyways.

Florida donors. I live in SEC country man. Appleby is slotted to be their backup. They aren't going to play Franks unless he blows everybody out of the water.

Just my opinion, but AA transferring to Florida says nothing about the coaching he received at Purdue. Does the fact that Octeus successfully filled a need for Painter last year mean that he was a great talent that was misused elsewhere, or that by year 5 he was able to fit a role in a better program? Anyway, back to the endless bashing of the staff.

It's a good thing we have years of performance or lack there of to supplement what this doesn't say to you.

You act like tillers latter staff is receiving this bashing. Check the results my man.

Yeah I live here in Florida too. Went to the Wakulla vs Suwannee playoff game and would lay cash down this kid plays next season.

Yet his on field results were similar to higher rated recruits Etling and Blough.
Look, no one is saying Austin is going to be an all american or even a starter at Florida. What we're saying is there has been enough talent at the QB position to develop SOMEBODY into a competent starter, stick with him, and least have a respectable passing attack. Instead we go through the same cycle every year. Here's hoping Shoop was the common thread, cause it wasn't the QB!

You can look at it in multiple ways.

First off, Etling was a better pure QB than Appleby, so I think his situation is easier to look at. Etling was redshirting and had his redshirt pulled late in a horrible season and basically was thrown to the wolves. Sometimes people just don't pan out, but he obviously was not put in the greatest of situations.

Secondly, the overall team. Obviously quarterbacks can look better or worse based on the players around them - the offensive line, the receivers, running backs, etc. You see it all the time in the NFL when a QB is put in a good situation vs. a bad situation.

Now obviously the second situation does not excuse the coaches. We're not giving our QBs much help, which puts them in a tough position, but that's just as much the coaching staff's fault.
This is right. First it's on Haz for letting Shoop overstay his welcome. Both of these kids came out of the gate strongly and steadily regressed under Shoop's lousy leadership. Where the hell was Haz when these kids were clearly struggling and the offense going downhill? There was no attempt to run offenses that played to the strength of these guys.
On a positive note now that Shoop is gone there is some hope for Blough. He too has shown promise early on that I am sure Shoop would have eventually destroyed. But make no mistake the real culprit in the failure of these QBs is Haz - he's completely incompetent,

How sad is it that our QB's are transferring to good SEC schools. That must mean they have talent and that Purdue could do nothing with them. Hazell and Shoop should be ashamed of themselves. Shows both have no coaching talent what so ever.[/QUOTE

We need so much more out of the position than FL or LSU does. Both schools are more run oriented with strong defenses. I'll still be shocked if either of them ever see the field barring injury.

Never saw one player do more to absolutely crush his own team's preseason hopes -- throwing a pick six on the very first play of the season. Boilermakers could be heard nationwide saying "Here we go again." Then, just as the team appears ready to rally late, he throws another. You just can't coach that kind of performance.

Yes, we'll always have Marshall.

And we're also real sorry Etling missed his senior prom, but enough of the high praise for those who quit. Appleby and Etling will have ample opportunity to stand by and watch good games, much like they routinely did in the pocket here. They so often became deer in the headlights, it's little wonder they took so long to turn tail and bolt. When the going gets tough, the not-so-tough get going elsewhere.

Meanwhile, we've already proven we can do just fine with a 6-foot Texan, not to mention a Kentucky long rifle. We won't have a lull from the cull.

We don't often agree but I'm completely onboard with this. The two best QBs of the 4 are still on the roster. If we chose well in picking new coaches, we may be alright.
