Apparently the NCAA is investigating

NCAA can get ****ed. I won't give them a dime of my money this year if they don't rule him eligible. Won't go to a game. Won't watch one on TV.

He will be cleared... Patience. I have seen nothing that would DQ Caleb. Is the investigation because of the change in commitment? Or just because Caleb's legal guardian is a Purdue guy?

This investigation has been going on for awhile now.........glad it's public, it can only help IMO.

Would not be surprised if Izzo is crying to the NCAA about it in the same way he cried to the Big Ten about what the Paint Crew might be planning to do before Dawson's first game at Mackey.

I'm sure we'll get the "death penalty" for this. (all while UNC's incredible violations get nary a shrug from the NCAA). It's all about the $$$.

Izzo such a little whiny beach.... So glad I bought tickets to that game. Going to smile as we beat the you know what out of them.

Open and shut the kid was obese and he adopted him. Nothing here...

This and Louisville just sits along with nc with blatant violations

At this point it is safe to say I hate MSU 100 times more than IU. I'll even cheer for chappy to beat the whiner this season...

I've never lead you astray...Swanigan being cleared will happen..NCAA needs a little more time to look into Barnes for a variety of reason one of which is precedent ... It will happen and this will be forgotten by Thanksgiving..it will be DONE

You got your ears to the ground too I see..........

Why should I elaborate its self explanatory .... Don't start something you can't finish

Dakich....like him or not......says he will be cleared. He has been right on about everything else in this story, hope he is here as well.

If Skal can get cleared after playing his senior year at an academy that didn't exist at this time last year, I wouldn't think Swanigan should have any issues. Unless, as previous posters mentioned, his handler bought any bumper stickers.

So this is also Izzo's fault? You Purdue fans are a paranoid little fan base. No wonder your small school does not matter in either basketball or football. Enjoy this minor blip up this season before returning to irrelevance.

Interesting. Your first message on any of these boards for this ID, and you waste it posting this? Wow! Just wow! Long way to go to deliver this cryptic message. I just wish I could understand your concern.

You seem to exhibit an unhealthy need to be vindicated as a human being by ensuring your baskball team has the unblemished respect you think it deserves. Do you often prowl other schools message boards looking for any slight or insult to MSU? Please, get a life, because you are going to be disappointed with MSU as a surrogate.

I think what he was saying is that he is used to being investigated for wrongdoings and that we should get thicker skin.

Small school? You ready for your beat down at Mackey?

He committed to Purdue in May. NCAA has had 5 freaking months to "look into" this! And Barnes and Painter have been completely above board the entire time. As far as I understand, there is not one single new piece of information to consider. So what can possibly be the NCAA's excuse for dragging their feet on this and causing undue stress and uncertainty to the young man's life? This is completely absurd and makes the NCAA look incompetent.

The other thing that doesn't make sense is the timing. How can a D1 athlete commit to a school in the spring, enroll, go on athletic scholarship, attend classes in the fall, and still not be cleared to play? This is akin to booking an airline ticket, checking in, boarding the plane, and then TSA asks to see your passport.

Because it is the NCAA. When have they EVER done anything that would allow things to just go smoothly? Like others have mentioned, the NCAA is a joke because of their want to simply sweep the UNC situation under the rug, even though that constitutes a death penalty type of punishment.

You are going to essentially gives PSU the death penalty for their football program and then go back on it...but when there is clear evidence of academic fraud (you know, the thing the NCAA is supposed to really be looking at) at UNC, they turn a blind eye. If it was PSU in the late 80's and early 90's when they were a powerhouse, nothing would have been done...but PSU hadn't been real powerful for about a decade and cutting their program wouldn't have a huge effect on money (and in fact, it probably made them tons of money based on the JoePa name alone).

When did Barnes adopt him?

Filed the paperwork in 2011....there is a good post started from pharoutengineer on this. I bumped it for you, Da Bull.

Granted, it involves a Purdue recruit, but it's a very good read if you can get past the "rivalry" issues.

So you've got a top 25 ranked 8th grader, adopted by Barnes, a sports agent and former Purdue athlete, being recruited by Purdue. No wonder the NCAA is taking a longer look into this.
