Another Guard…

Bigger question is, after bolting on his first two teams, why is he considering yet another?

Care to 'splain that?

There's a common denominator...
He’s a malcontent AND an inefficient chucker. Great combo.

Where oh where can we find a 33% 3 point shooter!?

Minnesota transfer Marcus Carr is considering Kansas, Texas, Louisville and Kentucky, sources told ESPN.
Tell me, if IT or Hunter entered the portal, you think those programs are calling them?
I could be on my 3rd divorce and "considering" Cindy Crawford, Brooke Shields, Christie Brinkley and Elle McPherson....

Somewhere in your head, you have a point. Maybe someday you will be able to figure out what it is. So far, it's clear you haven't.

Yeh. He's been offered by Purdue, iu (not that it matters), OSU, Kentucky, X, etc.
That tells me enough about his talent level.
So, it's the offer a kid gets and not the coach that transitions them into a heck of a player? What current player would you say didn't get the offers they should've? Zach? Tre? Jaden? Sasha? 4 of our leading scorers on a top 5 team.

You probably thought we could've or should've gotten better talent than these 4. Ratings and offers mean nothing when it comes to CMP and the program. Yet, still in the top 25...... again...

I would say that his first team, Pitt, was 0-17 in ACC. Maybe he was a bad fit for what the coaches wanted to do. Who knows.
He then transferred to Minny where he had 2 solid seasons under Pitino. Then, Pitino got fired. Players transfer all the time when coaches make a change.
But again, you're right. It would be a bad thing to have an starting backcourt with two NBA talents. What was I thinking...?

Don't need him shooting 3's for Purdue. Need him handling the ball, breaking down the D, breaking a press (which IT and EH really struggle with), getting other guys open looks, getting the ball out in transition (again, a weakness of IT and EH).

Based on GBI,

That will have to come from someone currently on this team. Unless you have a different plan.
That's the issue Painter should have addressed in the offseason. IT or EH aren't going to magically turn into Allen Iverson mid-season.

You making stuff isn't helping your image.
The scouting report on IT is to get him into isolation, take him into the lane and shoot over or through him.

Pay attention when you're watching the game and watch how he gets picked on.

The issue is with Painter offering tiny guards who aren't built to play in the B10. PJ, IT and now Smith.
Unless your last name is Iverson or Edwards and unless you have elite athleticism, I'm not of fan of 5'10, 150 lb guards.
Look at IT or Smiths offer list. That's all you need to know.

Link? Where did I say it would be a bad thing? (Spoiler: I didn't.)

I'm now convinced, it's everyone else at all those other programs. (That's usually the case... it's everyone else.)

Don't dodge the question pertaining to "offer list". Your biggest gripe has always been about stars, rankings and now offer list. Let me know your thoughts on the question about our top 4 players.

Here's what I would suggest. Start one thread about small guards and just put all of your rambling, bumbling thoughts there rather than f'ing up numerous threads. It would make everyone's life a lot easier...

He's not coming. You need to let go.

Did he move the goal posts on you? I'm shocked.

It was discussed in multiple publications. If you had paid attention, Painter did address it. He just didn't address it the way you wanted. Based on the basketball knowledge displayed by you and by Painter, it's not difficult to judge who should be making those decisions.

Marcus Carr Recruiting Trip:

CMP: we think you can be part of something special here.

Carr: sounds great!

CMP: but you won’t be shooting 3s here.

Carr: (furiously texting) Ummm… Ok yeah I’ll get back to you.

If we're being honest, let's admit that some of these guys are hired guns, mercenaries if you will (and if we're being really honest, we don't care if they get their degree as long as they win games. Ivey is going pro this year. He's played 2 years for Purdue. He may or may not ever graduate with a Purdue degree, but he'll help Purdue basketball win a lot of games which is what we all really care about.)
This is what the portal is for: find a guy who can come make an immediate 1, maybe 2 years impact and that player is potentially the one to get you over the hump.
Again, you're assuming a guy from the portal would be a bad teammate.
Was Wheeler a bad teammate or just in the wrong situation? But then again, Wheeler's not a future pro, Carr is.
That may be all YOU care about but I donate to both the JPC and Alumni Association. I do care what kind of person puts the jersey on. I have no affiliation with any pro teams, but my degree says Purdue. I don't like the portal. It's anti team and anti sportsman and feeds into the delusions of young adults that there is some perfect situation out there for them and that the only reason they haven't met their goals is because someone is keeping them from it. If Carr is so good why isn't he in the NBA now?

Although I'm not a fan of the portal, there are situations where a high school kid makes a mistake on who he chooses. Or a coach gets fired/moves on and the kid is left hung out to dry. I don't think a kid should have to lose a year of eligibility in those situations. However, I'm not a fan of the portal where anyone can do anything they want...

Carr isn’t that good. Lenny just takes enough time to google who was number one and Carr wins that tag as he was the top transfer I guess. That’s all he judges a player on as he doesn’t actually watch the games. He looks up who is best and who got the most top offers and that person instantly becomes the guy Painter misses on. That’s his point here all along and the names and numbers mean nothing. He just wants to say Painter missed and he himself could have done better as he would, of course, go get the top guys in each cycle and win the NCAA for Purdue. We really should be thankful however. Both for Lenny caring so much for the program and for the fact that it’s Painter and not Lenny who makes the decisions.

If you’ve been following, (I know, it’s hard) what I’ve said the entire time is that Carr was the best guard available in the portal. His ballhandling, ability to create and finish would be a major upgrade over IT and EH. He’d be the secondary (or primary) ball handler next to Ivey that this team is clearly missing. I know some posters think having two NBA caliber guards would be a bad thing.

Carr NBA caliber lolololololololol

Read the summary. More importantly, compare to our two other PG skills.
From your link:
Streaky shooter
Can struggle to score in traffic
Prone to hoisting up questionable shots
Can play too wildly on offense
Can tend to be a bit of a ball-stopper
Can be unfocused defensively
A bit undersized for his position

Yeah - he sounds like a great fit for this team!

You're running out of time. How are you going to get him on the team for the next semester? WE'RE COUNTING ON YOU!

Hopefully there’s some 5’9, 150# zero star guards for you to get excited about.
No. You are harping an complaining. You have your sights set on the player you want. You are infatuated with Carr and Xavier Johnson. Bring one of them in and your world is complete. WE'RE COUNTING ON YOU!

The IU fans are starting to see how bad X Johnson is. They would gladly trade him for IT.
C'mon man....no one in the B10 is trading anyone for IT. I know you're a fan because he wears a Purdue uni, but don't be silly.

I did. “NBA caliber” guards don’t spend 5 years at 3 schools, and get 2 coaches firedToronto Raptors draft: Marcus Carr could be a solid scorer

Toronto Raptors draft: Marcus Carr could be a solid scorer

Carr is more than just a scorer. He can play solid on-ball defense, is adept at creating turnovers, and is actually a good rebounder for someone his size. Carr will not be a liability on the defensive end when he comes into the pros.

Even with all of that, Carr will make noise in the NBA due to his scoring ability. A solid penetrator and playmaker off of the dribble, Carr pairs tremendous playmaking and distribution ability with a quickness in his game that makes him a slightly less efficient version of some of the game’s best offensive point guards.

Yeh, this guy wouldn't have helped Purdue. After all, we have IT and EH, who have similar skill sets and can pretty much do everything Carr can do......ummm..what?
