Another decommitt...

And it's only going to get worse! Why we can't keep this staff....total house cleaning is in order!
hopefully it doesn't get delayed too long , so new staff has time to recruit . This year is pretty much shot, unless a miracle happens , so lets start planning for next year.

It's why to cut bait early and get a new coach and staff announced as soon as the season ends. Writing is on the wall for the current commits....they have no idea who will be on staff next year and beyond.

Changing a coach during his second year also doesn't send a good message to recruits. If a new coach is hired, how long will he last? But now with the ability to change teams almost at will, any new recruit isn't forced to stay with a team if he doesn't like any changes made from what he was expecting.

Nothing succeeds like success, and failure usually just leads to more continuing failure.

I am sure Walters knows that unless the team is turned around , the rest of the season, he is gone. So if the next couple games, the team gets waxed, let him go and start working on next year.

Is there any difference in his buyout amount if it is done mid season or at the end of this season?

People laughed when I said this kid likely never makes it here. Lots of factors with NIL, poor coaching, etc. to think it true.

IMO the idea of “send a good message to recruits” is pretty much meaningless nowadays for the very reason you mention— players can now freely leave a team for any reason…

I hope to be wrong , but CRW now carries the Hazel-esque stench of incompetence— it’s critical that both he AND Bobo understand this, and the university is prepared to pivot effectively to a replacement if this stench isn’t overcome.

Absolutely stunning. A kid from California that committed out of nowhere on his first ever college visit, decommitted after the guy he committed to was fired. I just can’t believe it.

I think that the portal and NIL Era is going to require AD's to pivot and make changes sooner than waiting for he end of a third year compared to years gone by.
Especially if a team is well below .500 and there is noted decay the second season.
Obviously other factors play in to it as well.

You can make the decision to fire quick but the next batch of coaches isnt hireable until they are done with their own current seasons.

I think making the decision to move on as early as possible (when you know it’s DOA) is fine. Start the search early. But unless the guy you are hiring is unemployed it’s likely he’s not in the door til December.

I wonder if they could entice Dan Mullen? Not sure he would want the challenge. Maybe the TV gig is so much easier than being a head coach with all the pressure.

Problem is, I don’t think coaches will really consider a job til it’s a real opening.
We won't get anyone named (likely interviewed) until close to the end of the season or after. Like you said, hard to accept something that doesn't exist... yet.

Even if CRW is canned mid-season, I think your statement still holds true.

He’s an awful awful recruiter but we’ve done a lot worse
agree w/ this, the guy that I would really go after is Bronco Mendenhal, he turned around BYU and Virginia, currently at New Mex. ( Purdue is more viable ), Dickert from Wash St, or the coach at Austin Peay ( Scotty Walden ) who is 26 -14 and an up and comer w/ strong recruiting ties to the state of Texas

Anybody else think it was a mistake to fire the OC four games into the season? Looks like a panic decision.

Why not just tell him to be more aggressive in the play calling ?

Aggression wasn’t the most glaring thing we were missing.

i would think after getting embarrassed at Notre Dame , then looking bad at Oregon St, he would have done things differently, then the disaster of the Offense against Nebraska , pretty much is showing offense was going downhill, time to shake things up, can't get any worse , Coordinator needed to go

What were we missing that will not still be missing going forward?
Hopefully situational playcalling and adapting to the strengths of our offense cs the opposing defense.

The run on first, run on second, throw on 3rd and long pattern we developed was very clearly not ever going to be successful.

I think mixing in screens, more zone running, counter action in the run and pass game and leveraging short routes from a supposed air raid offense will help too.

Harrell seemed to be “saving” Vard and his legs for some later date. Now that it’s clear that later date won’t be necessary…we should move the QB more. In the pocket. Out of the pocket. In the run game. Things we just refused to do the past 4 games with Harrell
