Am I the only one annoyed hearing about IU being a "storied program"?

Honey - we have a great coach already. Painter is far better than the fans want to admit.
i'm not so sure. there are so many coaches that just never lose in the NCAA's like Calipari, i think he took teams to the sweet 16 like 10 or 12 years in a row...that's a lot of wins. how many does Painter have in a row, How many appearances does Painter have all together. I think kids won't come to w. lafayette because they think it's cold like chicago, dark , dank and gloomy. we do have drab dark like colors. How about we change our uni's to a freakish color that stands out like a sore thumb and shocks the world. EVERYONE would then want to come to us. I have so many great ideas for these uni's.. I will work some up on my computer and get them on here for you to review them and then vote on your favorite, OK? let me know your thoughts on this endeavor? thanks!!!!

The Badger is really putting out some honey tonight...new unis? That will definitely turn around the play of our beloved Boilers. What did you have in mind? A pink g-string with matching halter tops? Or maybe something more conservative like red and white polka dot culottes. The coaches could wear matching blazers and trousers. We might not win, but we would definitely be the talk of college basketball. We would replace Oregon as the flashiest and best dressed team in college.

That really is a big idea...you deserve all of the credit. Congrats.

TD - I was with you on this post up to "if he loses before the FF he should resign"...that was then topped by "IU was a top three team for a huge part of the season". We both know IU was never ranked higher than 8th or 9th the entire season. It was a nice try on your part though...I would give it a solid 4 out of 10.

Unlike many here, I think Painter is a good coach. His problem isn't coaching; his problem is Purdue in that it isn't a destination school for top players. Purdue gets the occasional highly ranked player, but they'll never recruit with IU consistently...and EVERYONE on this Board knows it. Their success has historically been due to coaching and tough-minded defense. That's why I respect them.

So you don't have to exaggerate or denigrate Crean. The good news is IU has 10X the fans that Purdue has minimally...we can absorb you leaving IU and going over to Purdue.

And as I told you earlier, Easter is about forgiveness of bitterness. Enjoy your week.

I stand corrected....I failed to look it up. And Easter is about a lot more than just forgiveness.

I also agree that Purdue isn't a destination for basketball players, it's because of the location in West Lafayette. I've said that for a long time. But let Painter have a couple of years of making the Sweet 16....or even one year of the FF and that attitude among recruits might change. One thing that doesn't help Painter but something that most Purdue fans like, is that he doesn't cater to the Boo William's or the World Wide's that are brokering players in return for "favors". We know with AHope and Boo Williams that Crean does. Knight never did that, but the minute Davis came in that all changed....and we know that Sampson did the same and Crean has a special place for all of them. Could Crean win 12 games without those connections? Why is it that so many Indiana HS coaches detest Crean or at the least don't care for the man?

As far as fan numbers, that's not really important to me...what is is how the coach runs the program. I'll take Matt over TC any day of the week in that regard.

don't know what goes on down there, but the stuff you have underlined explains to me , at least in part, as to how they get so many highly rated players after so much attrition in their program

Thank you for the acknowledgment. As for players coming to W. Lafayette, Purdue has been to the Sweet 16 and even the Final Four and yet, they still have a challenge getting players to the school. It has to be more than just advancing in the NCAAs TD.

As for IU, they have been getting players for as long as I can remember and that is a long time. It is just the preferred school for basketball players and that is unlikely to change. IU has the tradition and national recognition for basketball. It is the same here in SoCal...UCLA will always attract the basketball talent and USC the football talent. Even during the recent sanctions, USC still out-recruited UCLA for the top players.

Speaking of UCLA....what's the rumors on Alford? I know he has a great class coming in, and I think he'll be better off without his kid playing....but will the fans be happy with.........what????

As for Purdue and Painter, I know HS coaches in the state like him and respect what he's done. I look at it that PJ did a very good job at PG this year and if given the job next season, he'll be even better. His stats are very solid, and though his point totals aren't what a Yogi's is, his assist to turnover was better than many of the so-called top PG's in the country. PU just doesn't have that consistent outside threat that can create match up issues outside.

Matt needs to go back to motion..which is what he knows best; he needs to implement a zone at times, and he needs to bench players when their shot selection is hurting the team....which I think he started doing at the end of the season. I actually think the Boilers will be a lot better next year.

As for Alford, he sent back his one year extension to the A.D. because his team played so bad. He then wrote an open letter to the fans and alumni of UCLA, have you read it? It's pretty apologetic and seemed to come from his heart. He PROMISED to do better .... his team was outside of the top 100 defensively and for that, he apologized and said it would NEVER happen again. He vows to get his team under 50 in defensive ranking in the coming year. He also said the team will work VERY hard and be accountable and work on offense & defense and be better coaches. He said he didnt' deserve the contract option so he sent it back and he vows to earn it back from the A.D. ,,,the A.D. accepted the proposal.

As for Alford, just yesterday he announced that he was returning the extra year the school had just given him as an extension. He said his performance this year didn't warrant the extension given him after last year. It was a very smart move on his part and unprecedented.

A lot of the animosity towards him is threefold. First, he isn't John Wooden and he only got them to the Sweet 16 his first two years. The UCLA fanbase believes they should be in the FF minimally every year and win the title every other year or so. Secondly, a lot of people have an issue with him playing his son. The comments about Bryce are over-the-line and quite personal. Lastly, they lost three times to USC. This was the first time they were swept in the home and home series and then they lost in the conference tournament. My son plays for the Trojans' football team so I fully get why the Bruin fans are livid.

Steve has an excellent recruiting class coming in. The competition out west isn't as tough as it is east of the Mississippi. They should return to or near the top of the PAC-12 beginning next year.

IU has been VERY mediocre the last 20+ years. I read where schools like MSU & UL have absolutely lapped IU in basketball. What has propped IU up more than anything, are those dusty banners and a fanbase that would have intercourse with a basketball given the chance.

This is coming from a die hard IU football fan. I don't root or I just can't bring myself to root for iu in bball. I've been in Florida for the winter and let me say this, NOBODY cares that much about college bball outside of a very small region. It's good now because of the march madness, but the unreal zest for bball just isn't there, it doesn't exist outside of three or four areas.

IU has a pretty self righteous fanbase, it disgusts me. As a hard core footballer, we are going to beat Purdue this year again, that's becoming a norm.lol.

Classy guy. Learned a lot from Bob Knight and his dad. He needs to convince Craig Neal to come to UCLA and be his top assistant again.

I'm guessing that a lot of teams are going to beat PU in football. A lot.

Comments about his family are why he left Iowa. One of Steve's biggest problems....pun intended....is Walton and how no one but Wooden will ever be good enough for UCLA.

They need to lock him in his room with a four foot fatty and leave him there.

I thought for the situation, Bryce handled it well and played pretty good. Certainly not dad, but better than dad in some ways.

good point about craig neal. He also said in that letter that he had never coached a team that was not under 50 in defense (nationally) and, as I stated, vowed to get them back there. Perhaps neal or other d-minded coaches will join him in his endeavors. I see that he has quite a recruiting class coming in per scout.com. Should prove to be an interesting year for UCLA.

Oh please, you aren't really taking anything TD says seriously are you? The guy that predicted IU to finish 7-9 in the B1G? Indiana has always recruited well, IU recruits itself. What does catering to Boo Williams mean? Is that anything like catering to Biggie and Rosie? Been lots of talk for years about the Ft. Wayne handlers. But you wouldn't know anything about that right?

Ask Iowa how classy Steve Alford is. You just seem to live in your own little world, regardless of what the facts are. Steve was a great IU player, but a very mediocre coach. He should have stayed in New Mexico. And what he did at Iowa is unforgivable. Comments about his family is why he left Iowa? Right.. In your own world.

Where are you in Florida? Both Miami and Florida have had some pretty good programs. Just silly to say no one cares about college basketball except a small region. And obviously you care enough to be reading and writing on a rivals' board. But you don't care? Got it....

Give it up. Put Steve's record...including this year's fiasco....against two tone Tommy's and see who's is the best. Mike Davis took IU further than Crean has. And yes, one of the reasons Steve left Iowa was the things being said to his family. As for Pierce, maybe you should read the entire document, and know that Steve was told to keep Pierce by Iowa's wonderful AD. Go back and drink in your trailer

exactly, all you have to do is look at Clappi-tan's overall record. Go ahead, take a look, it's awful. So put that up against Alford and it's night and day. So there's that.

Iu has their biggest win in 10+ years and they are on the Purdue board seeking attention. That's textbook little brother behavior
Calling IU the "little brother," especially when it comes to basketball is hilarious. There is not a sole in the country, outside of Purdue fans, who thinks IU takes a backseat to Purdue basketball. You guys are living in a fantasy land.

that noise you heard was my point sailing over your head. apparently reading comprehensions isn't your strong suit

let me spell it out for the sub-50 IQ crowd: i said that's little brother behavior. if you're too dumb to see that, you're living in fantasy land

iu has a better history in hoops, obviously, especially true in the NCAAT.

but running to a Purdue board and pounding your chest about it?? that was my point. textbook IMO

I have read the entire document, including the fact that Steve tried to use religion to get the victim to not press charges. And that's just pathetic. Steve was run out of town in Iowa and will likely be the same at UCLA. Great IU player, average coach, less than average person. Trailer? Right... You're just bitter you've chosen the wrong team to back. Meanwhile the Hoosiers and your hated CTC look toward to another blue blood match up.

Right on target Express. Nobody here thinks IU is the little brother of Purdue in basketball. That is just responses to IU posters who come here and troll.

The IU trolls are exhibiting little brother behavior by coming here and, essentially, asking us for some sort of acknowledgement. Unfortunately, althought previlent, this behavior is not exclusive to IU. Had we advanced to the sweet sixteen, and IU failed in the first round, there would be a few idiots from this board over on Peegs doing the same.

It is time for this thread to die, die, die!
