Alaimo in the portal

perhaps he saw what alstott and all the others did after they left and decided getting a Purdue degree was better than the other options available to him at this time. he may never be a starter anywhere, and the likelihood he gets a scholarship at another power 5 school are minimal. So maybe after looking around, he realized being a back-up and getting a degree were better than the alternatives.

It is my understanding all players are given an exit interview at the end of the season detailing where they stand. Some are given "the talk" as well.

Example of the talk below

They may have the exit interviews, but something must not have been clear to Michael and made him think he needed to move on vs stay. I'm sure Purdue's coaches would like to see Allen redshirt if at all possible now that Aidan is back. 2023 can be a really competitive year for both Alaimo and Allen.

Yes, but, there was the assertion that he was given such talk...which, did not only not make sense, but, obviously was not the case given what has happened.

It seemed dumb to an extent that he put his name in...more so in that it was suggested that he was more or less told to do so...but, even more dumb than either that he is now coming back apparently.

No use in making something out of potentially nothing, but, this certainly has a really poor look to it all the way around.

Just to fuel more speculation...

What if Alaimo and Burton initially got the same talk. Basically that Aidan is the man and at this point there are no changes to the depth chart. Alaimo took that to mean he is the #3 or #4 guy on the outside looking in again, practice squad guy. Then maybe there was another meeting once he forced the issue with the portal declaration and the follow-up meeting went more like this.. We think you definitely have the potential to pass up Austin, we just need you to go out and show what you can do in spring ball. At least shows he wants to stick around and fight for it in spring practice.

Purdue does not even have a second QB for Spring if O'Connell is sitting out, and, not to ignore the obvious, but, has Burton shown anything to date? Has he even thrown a pass?

If Alaimo can't get ahead of him at this point...then it warrants genuine concern that he won't...but, how there could have been any discussion with him that he was not in contention to be #2 just does not make any sense at all.

If he had questions about where he stood, and, had to put his name in the Portal, shame on everyone...to the point that I just can't believe that would be the case even.

I have no idea what he can/can't do...we have never had a chance to see...I have no idea what Burton can do, but, it sure seems as if throwing the football is potentially an issue, and, if so, that would indeed be an issue it would seem for Purdue.

If dumb takes is your lane, you have definitely stayed in it.
'dumb takes'

Over the years, we've had a variety of different posters who claimed to have info from "insiders". Then, actual events work out quite differently.

Conversely, I've been a party to a variety of private conversations that truly involved "insiders", and it's been spot on. Said "insiders" have not publicly revealed their "insider" info on this forum, and I've avoided doing the same.

That's my "lane", and you're right: I "have definitely stayed in it".

Agree that it would make sense. The mind of an 19-20 year old young man can be confusing. Makes me wonder if he consulted our coaches to see where he was penciled in at prior to putting name in the Portal the 1st time around.
Depth charts changing in Spring and Fall based on variables of injuries and performance may have made his think he was deeper on the list than he actually was. He may have real chances this year to solidify a #2 spot.
There seems to be a hint of Allen throwing and showing signs of a Freshman that may have helped Alaimo see the bigger picture without much of any discussion with Coach Schiano. Rutgers already having a young QB in high rated Wimsatt may not have helped either.
hmmmm.... that almost sounds like, if you grind it out, you just might have an opportunity.

Careful...

Schiano would like to have a dual threat QB

Eh.. I think he has the nuts lol

Alaimo has the chance to be the backup QB, instead of just being the #3 or #4 option. We have not seen Burton throw more than a pass or 2 during his entire Purdue career. Alaimo seems to have a good grasp on the offense according to Brohm, and if possible, I am sure the coaching staff would like to redshirt Allen this year, if possible.

Where was a missing RB at today? I told you 4 days ago to let me know. Whatcha think? Our beat writers still don’t know and neither do you or “ your insiders. ”. But instead you pussed out and avoided the question. Like I said, ask around. You might be surprised. “ You’ve been party to…”. Lol. What a 🤡. Trust me.

Coach Brohm gave Alaimo props today. Said he looked good and relaxed and was one of his better practices.
What that translates to? We'll know after 15 practices.

you be an insider

"Trust me", said every insider always.

Always looking to make a few extra bucks on doubters. What say ye? Just remember Ive asked you about RB news for 3 or 4 days now….
Dude, as much as you crave it, I'm not going to give you your validation.

You claim to be an ... 'insider'. Cool. Enjoy knowing that "insider" information.

Each and every "insider" I know (and I know more than just a few) do not anonymously frequent an internet forum and demand validation for their "insider" knowledge.

Yes, they privately share information, but they do not have fragile egos that demand attention.

Get over your obession.

Never sought validation clown🤡. Simply refuted some of the ridiculous shit you post. I can tell I’m not the only one that thinks that.

And as a #3 or #4 he could just hang around and be a coach some day...... TIC

Hey 🤡! My insider info not validated yet? Asked u 2 wks ago what you thought about our RB situation? Still don’t know? And our beat writers, you know, the guys closest to the team don’t know? I hope you AT LEAST figured out I was referring to Sampson James right? You know before anyone knew he wasnt practicing? Oh not been practicing with team? No show? Wonder why? I’ll let you wait some more. See ya 🤡🤡

A couple of Questions: Read that Sampson James indeed has missed practices, but has been with the team and was at recent practices before Spring Break. Is that correct or not?
Have seen other news bits that King Doerue is doing well along with Tryone Tracy all over the field including RB due to his shifty talents & PWO Mockobee is getting reps and work in while Dylan Downing is sidelined with injury.
Are these the same type of observations that you have seen or heard?

Exactly right except Sampson has been full Mia when he’s wasn’t at the practice

I guess I never realized what was so bad about king Doerue that makes it so that he can’t hold down the position. If you look at his catch and run against MSU I don’t see what he lacks

True elite high end speed. Ability to run into and through a guy are what he’s missing.

That said, I am a fan of him and think he’s almost UNDER utilized in this offense. At a minimum should be catching a few more balls a game

I totally hear you and If we had anything close to that as an alternative I’d get Doerue not playing more. We don’t. I’d liken it to jerod void. Hey.. if we had Joey Harris in 2003, I don’t think you’d see much of void that year. But since we didn’t, I think he more than got the job done

void would still have been the goalline back. He was in 2002.

King isnt built like he was.

Yes which was much less of a role than the one he had.

didn’t say they were similar players.. only similar in terms of being able to take on a bigger role than they’d have sharing a chart with a major playmaker like Harris
