2022 Recruiting

Unless we're winning by 20, I don't see Painter resting Ivey. I agree there's no need for addition wear/tear or risk injury, but when you have a guy that talented, you get everything you can out of him.

He’s not averaging 35 minutes a game in the regular season. Not with this roster.

I can see Lenny's perspective here (gulp! :)). I do think CMP had less depth and options with Carsen Edwards.....on top of that Jaden Ivey has been even more of a high-wire act than C-Boogie, and I think CMP will be strategic with rest. Of course foul difficulty makes a difference too. I'd still be willing to wager he gets the most minutes but maybe less than 35 per game. Carsen Edwards did average 35.4 minutes per contest during his final (junior) season with Purdue.

Very good problem to have right now, IMO.

This is also a recruiting tool. You show players with Ivey's ability that hey "you're the man"

Why because IT, Mortons or even Newman's talent is even marginally close to Ivey's?

If Purdue is a sweet sixteen team we need Ivey to play like the first rounder we hope he is. If he's sitting out and Newman, Morton or IT are getting a significant amount of minutes at the 2, we won't have the year people are hoping for.

Our bench players are pretty good but you play your best players and unfortunately you can only play 5 at a time.

No, because we don’t need to wear him down during the regular season, in order to beat most of the teams on our schedule.

In the NCAAs, when it counts, sure, he’ll play 35 minutes plus.
Agree with this. Play your best ball the last 2 weeks of the B1G regular season, finish in the top 3 of the standings, take on Friday or Saturday loss in the B1G tournament, then come out blazing for the next 6 one game tournaments. I cannot wait.

True freshmen do not come into the B1G ready to play significant minutes. Their bodies are just not ready for the grind of the season.

Their sophomore years they make significant conditioning strides, and are better suited to play major minutes.

If he's the best player on the floor he'll play as many minutes as he can, as long as he's effective.
Of course he will.
But if 2 decades of close but futile struggles showed so clearly during Gene's tenure, tired stars won't beat fresh depth if it's good enough. (ours will be)
28-30 minutes is enough for anyone and more than some can take without playing tired.
NO need for ANYONE to play tired this year. ;)

i think Ivey will get the minutes needed in the close games and get plenty of rest in the blowouts.

He's going to be the guy with the ball in his hands at crunch time, so yes, you want him with live legs at the end of games late in the season. Come tourney time, you ride him as far as he'll take you.

That's how Painter managed Carsen's minutes. When Purdue was up quite a bit, Carsen sat for the rest of the game.

There is no reason not to manage Trevion's minutes, too. I have to wonder if he was suffering from exhaustion at the end of last season when his productivity dropped off. It was the first time in his life he had played so many minutes in a season.

My guess is we're a top 10 to 15 team. Predicating a successful season on a final four run seems kind of short sighted, We're going to need Ivey playing well and a lot to win the B1G Title which in my view should be Purdue's goal. Could Purdue go to the Final Four? Sure but it's not likely, For teams like Purdue the margin for error is pretty small in a singe elimination tournament. Only clearly superior teams like Gonzaga can base their season's success on a Final Four.

By the way, in college guys only play 35 games over 5 months, Its typically two games per week. 30 to 35 minutes per game is not a lot for a college kid. A lot of NBA starters play 70 to 80 games per year and average over 30 minutes per game.

This is one of the more pessimistic predictions I have seen so far. In my view this is a team that should spend all season in the top 10 and perhaps much of it in the top 5. How high we can climb will have a lot to do with the UNC game and avoiding any bad losses like last years Miami debacle.

The only team that should challenge us for the B10 title this year (in my view) is Michigan. I would bet a lot of money that it will be one of those 2 teams.

College guys practice twice a day throughout the season. NBA guys don't practice much once the season starts.

Wow, ok, maybe a hidden player from Michigan?

Watched some highlights of Ski. Nice outside stroke, pretty good handles. I like the way he finishes. Not incredibly explosive but working on it.
Wonder if MSU and UM are on this kid?
Reminds me of Stouskas from UM a few years ago.

I think both were watching him in a recent tournament/game along with some other players. Whenever I do a search for him, John Krasinski from The Office keeps popping up.

Like that jumper?

Does anybody here predict a commitment within the week, based on this current trip to WL?

Please let this happen!!!!!

Washington and Colvin would be two huge gets. I think Colvin is about a 90% but not sure about Washington.
We should own the region though.

Just means this thread will go on a little longer trying to fill 1 or 2 spots. Going to surpass 1k comments soon.

It appears we’re going to go 0-3 against UNC (Washington, Trimble, shavers).

the only good thing is that we will likely never play them. I’d hate to play them 6+ times over the next few years.

So who’s the next man up? Still mutual interest with Reed?

Reed seems like a long shot to me. Not sure, we may be shifting full focus to 2023 and building relationships there. We might grab a big man like David Craig who is under the radar or look to the free agent market in the Spring.

Well that is just this year. We also lost Jeremiah Francis which really stung. Sad his career never worked out because of injuries.

But we won the TKR recruiting battle.
