2022 Recruiting

There were people on this board who felt like we were going after a point guard still even after we got Bradin Smith despite Camden Heide being ours to lose and rumored to be a soft verbal. It was speculated Heide would commit before Justice visit next week. Clearly that third spot was Heides’. And don’t be disappointed when Dix, McMillan, Karaban, and Rodgers commit elsewhere.
yep, I was going to remove McMillan and Holloway from the list I was tracking since they didn’t mention Purdue in the schools recruiting them the hardest recently. I don’t see Dix considering us after Heide. I think Karaban had been off the radar for awhile.

I am rarely surprised by recruiting news (unless it's really good news). But what information was out there that made you think that Painter had stopped recruiting PGs? Painter has said multiple times that he continues to recruit, even though it appears the class is full. Unfortunately it's because of past history -- players being injured, decommiting, or simply not working out.

So who do you have other than Washington? By all accounts we’re going to sign 5, and it doesn’t appear there’s an obvious position of need. Maybe a post? Anyway, it would seem we are in the enviable position of taking the best player.

We are in a very good position. Njie is going to visit this weekend from an earlier post. Nothing from Reed after his visit. Heide committed right before the Rodgers visit. Did Rodgers visit? Michigan just got a commit from a small PG so that might impact Trimble?

Recent news or offers
—————————————-
26 - Jalen Washington
34 - Seth Trimble
82 - Ty Rodgers (visit June 15-16?)
90 - Tarris Reed (visited but no news)
143 - Kebba Njie (June 18-20)
NR - Josh Dix (visit June 18-19)
NR - Braden Huff (no offer)

I am a fan boy, but I believe Morton will make the biggest jump this year.
I just don't see him having the oppurtunity to make the big leap next year.

If Ivey is good enough to be drafted in the first round, he's not just going to split minutes. He's going to play as many minutes as he can. Over the last 10 games last year he averaged 32 minutes. Hunter averged 30 minutes per game the last 2 years. That's a huge chunk of the 80 minutes available at the 1 and 2. Newman will get most of the remaining minutes at the 2, so now we're really talking about Morton and IT sharing what maybe 10 to 15 minutes? The only way Morton makes a big leap forward is if Painter decides Hunter is not the man and Morton takes nearly all of IT's minutes. I just don't see it,

There are 120 minutes a game available between the 1-3 spots.

Based on the offer list of the top 4 guys, I’d be ecstatic to get any of them.

I think painter was recruiting other guards at the same time as Heide and the first one to take it would have gotten it. I have no idea what he was telling these guys but there were people on the board that thought painter would have taken McMillan and Heide.

Why do you think we will sign 5? I think if we get Washington we only sign 5 if we can get a quality big. Otherwise we bank for 2023. I doubt we have Ivey around when the 2023 class comes in but we may have Edey, Morton, Gillis, Newman, and the 3 from the 2021 class. If we sign 5 that only leaves us 1 schollie. Understand we will likely have some other departures but painter has not made it a habit of signing large classes.

I think there will be 2 at least for 2023 between Colvin, Xavier Booker, Gibbs-Lawhorn, Freeman, Hart, Joey Brown …

I would guess four, but he has signed (5) before in 2014 and 2017....last several classes (courtesy of 247):

2013 - 3 (Stephens, Scott, and Smotherman)
2014 - 5 (V. Edwards, Haas, Mathias, P. J. Thompson, and Taylor)
2015 - 3 (Swanigan, Cline, and Weatherford)
2016 - 1 (C. Edwards)
2017 - 5 (Eastern, Ewing, Wheeler, Haarms, and Stefanovic)
2018 - 3 (Hunter, Williams, and Dowuona)
2019 - 3 (Newman, Gillis, and I. Thompson)
2020 - 3 (Ivey, Morton, and Edey)
2021 - 3 (Kaufman, Furst, and Waddell)

Because with the new transfer rules, the game has changed. Departures after going to happen and I think painter likes getting players in his system early. Painter has stated he may even start to oversign.
I don’t think painter has much history with “banking a schollie”

Ivey played so much because he often was the best/only good offensive options if Tre and Zach were'nt coming up big.
He also looked exhausted in a few games.
An improved TEAM offense would reduce the need for him to play too much (it's possible) and stay fresher.
IF Morton is the catalyst of that improvement, he could easily cut into Ivey's minutes. That's a scenario that benefits him and makes the team much tougher to defend and thus, beat.
No different with Hunter. IF Newman/Thompson/Morton have improved enough, they WILL cut into the others guys minutes.
I doubt coach wants anyone playing 30+, certainly not if you have good depth.

I agree that Painter does not "bank" scholarships, but there have been several years where he gave scholarships to worthy walk-ons because recruited players chose other schools.

True freshmen do not come into the B1G ready to play significant minutes. Their bodies are just not ready for the grind of the season.

Their sophomore years they make significant conditioning strides, and are better suited to play major minutes.

If he's the best player on the floor he'll play as many minutes as he can, as long as he's effective.

Disagree. If you have a lottery pick on your team, you're gonna ride that horse as far as he'll take you.

Painter will play Ivey like he did Edwards. 35+ a game.

Not in the regular season.

Unless we're winning by 20, I don't see Painter resting Ivey. I agree there's no need for addition wear/tear or risk injury, but when you have a guy that talented, you get everything you can out of him.

Where are you already seeing him as a lottery pick? Nbadraftnet doesn’t have him as a 1st rounder yet

Scroll down the forum and look for the Ivey lottery pick post.

Didn’t think I remembered seeing anything about a Yahoo mock draft on that thread and after taking the time to go back through I still don’t see one. Are you talking about the top nba prospects list that Peegs did?

Can you provide a link to any legitimate mock draft that shows him in the top 10, since you have seen several? I have yet to see one.

247 Sports isn’t legitimate? Mmmkay.

Here is one from 247 Sports (if you consider it legitimate): https://247sports.com/LongFormArtic...-Hardy-Paolo-Banchero-165604772/#165604772_14

It has Jaden Ivey at 7. However, I checked 3 other mock drafts and here are the results:

Bleacherreport: 23rd
NBADraftroom: 39th
NBADraftnet: NR in the top 60

I was surprised as many on the board were saying he is a Lottery pick and I never went out and looked. Jaden Hardy is a Lottery pick in everyone's draft....maybe some confusion there?

Sounds like Ivey is on everyone's radar but it depends on how his season goes and the consistency of his jump shot as to where he falls on the draft line.

Google is your friend, no need to be too lazy to do a search so you can feign ignorance to be belligerent.

Again- that 247 link isn’t a mock draft.
