2016 Grad-Transfer Thread

I understand this is all complete speck. But if Purdue could sell him. Could Purdue and Stefan get away with playing 8 minutes a game at the 3 away from his natural 4 spot? That way saving more mins for each Haas and Biggie.

The thing is, I think the minutes that Haas and Swanigan will sit out would equal close to what he played at Hawaii this year (24.7 mpg). AJ averaged 24.6 mpg this season and Isaac only 14.3. Even assuming Isaac can take on AJ's workload from last season, which he may not be able to given the way Isaac gets called for fouls just for posting up, that leaves 15 mpg open at the center position plus whatever Swanigan leaves at the 4 (he averaged 25 mpg this year and I would figure that goes up to around 30 next season). I think that leaves a minimum of 25 mpg for someone as talented/experienced as Jankovic to come in and play.

As you said, all speculation. I just think it would make basketball sense from both sides.

Neal was great in the game against the boiler this year. Also his dad is a coach. He's the exact type of player I would have zero problem coming in to help. His dad wouldn't mind him leaving for a coach like Painter either I'm guessing.
e
Isn't his dad his coach now at New Mexico? Why would he not care if he left to play for Painter?

not many, he's ours

looks he will be getting some offers after all. Georgia Tech, Chaminade University of Honolulu, Memphis, Brigham Young University, Purdue, Texas A&M, Wake Forest, Butler, Xavier, Western Kentucky, Toledo, Miami, Utah, New Mexico State, Vanderbilt, Pittsburgh, Evansville, Florida, Hawaii and Ole Miss

I saw the New Mexico game. I don't know anything about the other guys mentioned on here, but if we can get Cullen Neal, especially for two years, we should jump on that with both feet. We talk about our guards not be offensive threats and not able to break down defenses late in the shot clock; well, he would solve that problem as soon as he started playing and for two years. I didn't notice in earlier posts. Would he be eligible right away? Who out in 2017, a coach's son, can offer all that Neal can offensively and with the other intangibles? This seems like a absolute no brainer.

I agree to an extent but he doesn't appear to be a very efficient player. His FG and 3PT numbers are average and from the eye-test, he seems like he would be another role player, not a standout.

I'm more interested in whether Stefan Jankovic decides to stay at Hawaii (banned from the 2017 postseason; Jankovic is a 5th year guy anyway, after transferring to Hawaii from Missouri) or not. If not, I think he's definitely someone that can make a major impact and he's a 5/4 that plays the exact opposite style of Haas on O, so Purdue (theoretically) would be very versatile in the frontcourt. It would also be ironic since A.J. Hammons committed to the Boilers right before Jankovic might have in 2011.

Agree 100%. Jankovic would be a home run transfer. 1 year so it doesn't take a 2017 scholarship. He's a good player and fits a position of need. I really think it makes so much sense from both sides. The only concern I would have is if Jankovic wants to start because I don't see Haas/Swanigan coming off the bench BUT I do think Jankovic could play starter's minutes (25 or so a game) just backing up those two. IIRC, Isaac got 15 mpg this season backing up AJ but he is a little more foul prone than AJ was I think so I would expect that number to be closer to 20 for someone backing up Isaac next season and then Swanigan will need at least 4-6 minutes off each half on top of that so there would be ample playing time for a player like him.

Jack Owens recently followed a Christian Vital. PG in 2016 class. Not sure if it means anything but may show the staff has been sniffing around him.

Katin Reinhardt from USC transferring and is eligible for one year next season.

Another early consideration is 6'4 SG Akeem Springs (a Wisconsin-Milwaukee transfer: they were 20-13 this past season). He's immediately eligible and has played well against higher-level competition. If the coaching staff can't get a "home-run" addition for the backcourt, he's worth a look:

14/3/0 against Valpo late in the season. Good assists numbers for a shooter. 21/3/2 against Notre Dame in Nov. About the same size as Bane. Turnovers don't seem to be a problem. hmmmm ...

Well that's interesting
hey guys, did some research on Savon Goodman (ASU), first yr. at UNLV was suspended or the year due to burglary charge then got suspended this yr. at ASU for some games for unspecified reason, so it's safe to say we don't need a player like this.

I've read that he's kind of a ball-hog and not much of a defensive or team player in general. He has some talent, puts up some decent numbers (in a high volume of shot attempts) but probably thinks he's a little better than he really is and generally doesn't make his teams much better (UNLV+USC+?). I would pass on him. He's like a guard version of Dan Palombizio.

Yeah, I'm not sure how athletic he is because I haven't really seen him play much (other than in highlights of their win over Wisconsin early in the season and in their loss to Green Bay in the Horizon League tournament) but he would be a one-year guy and looks to be an aggressive/scoring 2 guard. His 3PT and FT numbers improved this past season as well and he has good height for a college guard. Maybe he could help make next season's team better.

I think spike albrecht would be exactly the type of player we should be looking at in a graduate transfer. Can shoot and keep his cool under pressure. What more can we ask out of that position from a graduate transfer?

Don't get me wrong I'll take Spike but let's look for star PGs. Spike isn't going to do much more than PJ. Why do we need another PG taking away from the development of Carsen? I just don't think Carsen should sit while we have two average PGs playing. Let the kid develop.

How many star point guards you think will transfer, be able to play immediately, and choose Purdue? How would having a star point guard help in developing Edwards? We need stability and shooting from the point guard position, and of what's available I'd be very happy to have spike. Look at how many of our losses this year came from an absolute lack of poise when facing defensive pressure. I think a guy like spike is able to carry us through that.

What about the fact that the guy has already retired due to injury? I would much rather let an improved PJ and Carsen run the point. I'd be fine if Spike would be OK with a PG competition but it doesn't seem like he is. I think he will take the Bryson Scott route and go to a mid major to play big minutes.

Agree with you, but would you feel differently if Stephens left?

I wouldn't. We have 2 good shooters who will get better with more time and have PJ /Carsen who could be used as well.

I think we should be swinging for the fences at this point. If we can actually get a 4 or 5 star type athlete at the PG or Center position (especially JUCO, which shouldn't impact 2017), I say take them. For example, a Thon Maker would be nice ! lol

As someone else said (and made me laugh) , lets not be "settlers" ! I am personally tired of settling - Time to go get who we need to take our program to the next level.

If not, lets save them for 2017 & pound the pavement for some really good and complimentary 5th year players willing to play team ball.

Here's some more on Katin Reinhardt. This is an article from 2013, when he transferred from UNLV after his freshman season. His comments make me tend to believe he's high-maintenance and more about showcasing himself instead of helping his team win games: http://www.cbssports.com/general/wr...atin-reinhardt-on-leaving-unlv-i-like-to-pass

He tries to say the right things, but it doesn't come off well to me and seems like he's not wired to be a team-oriented guy and not talented enough to risk bringing in regardless of those shortcomings.

how about we get Spike, who would be great for a year, share time w/ CE and have PJ shirt.

Why don't we put a full court press on someone like marques bolden (still uncommitted) and call it good !

Give him a call Biggie !

I don't think I'm quite as sold on Carsen Edwards as one of our main options at point guard next year quite yet. He looked like more of a combo guard in high school to me so is he ready to be a point guard in the Big Ten right away? I think I'd be ready to take on an experienced grad transfer as insurance.

One of my dorm buddies to this day cannot see/hear that name without a few choice expletives simply followed by

"Bizio!"

He did, however, beat TMHR with a free throw with no time left. In quite entertaining fashion, we witnessed Lute Olson just about chase the official, Jim Bain, all the way to the Mackey locker rooms.

also a number of great Juco players out there

http://247sports.com/Player/Kavell-Bigby-Williams-88173

I interacted with him online (believe it or not) because I thought he seemed like a good fit. He told me that Painter and the staff aren't recruiting him. Maybe his grades are a concern? He's originally from England, so I don't know if transitioning his education from there to here has been an issue, since he was in JC.
