2016 Grad-Transfer Thread

One of my dorm buddies to this day cannot see/hear that name without a few choice expletives simply followed by

"Bizio!"

He did, however, beat TMHR with a free throw with no time left. In quite entertaining fashion, we witnessed Lute Olson just about chase the official, Jim Bain, all the way to the Mackey locker rooms.

Yes, it happened at the end of the '81-'82 regular season. I've read about that before, haha.

Rodney Pryor (Robert Morris) is a 6'4/6'5 2 guard. He had a good 3PT% as a sophomore but slumped this past season from beyond the arc. RM wasn't as good of a team in '15-'16 so that might have affected the amount of open looks he got from the perimeter. He's a good FT shooter and rebounder for that position and I assume he can make some plays off-the-dribble based on his numbers:

I interacted with him online (believe it or not) because I thought he seemed like a good fit. He told me that Painter and the staff aren't recruiting him. Maybe his grades are a concern? He's originally from England, so I don't know if transitioning his education from there to here has been an issue, since he was in JC.

Good for you ! !

Doesn't surprise me, . . but I hope one of our coaches AT LEAST checks into this kid ! We used to get some pretty good jucos at one time. I hope this isn't another example that we aren't able to adjust to the current conditions in college basketball.

Gary Parrish tweeted that Valpo's Alec Peters can graduate this summer. With Bryce Drew possibly on his way to Vandy, maybe we can get him to move just a little south to West Lafayette if he doesn't stay or follow Drew to Vandy? He averaged 18/8 last year and shot 44% from 3. Seems like he is a stretch 4 type of player that we currently don't have.

Where would he fit?? Caleb will be starting at the 4. Isaac at the 5. Not sure a guy his level would accept a bench role.

You're probably right. I do think there's starter minutes for a good player to come in and back up both the 4 and 5 spots for us (figure Haas will only play 25 mpg at most so that leaves 15 for someone else plus whatever Swanigan sits). Still, he would probably go somewhere he could start for 25 mpg rather than come off the bench for the same minutes.

Now if Swanigan goes pro......

You were doing so well until......

LOL Ronnie Johnson is graduating and transferring somewhere for his 5th year.

Wait for it.............
Considering that almost all of his stats were better as a freshman and sophomore at Purdue -- especially minutes played -- I would say that Houston wasn't the fit he was looking for to show his sauce. So far he is saying nice things about the Houston staff. It will be interesting to see if he trashes them after another school picks him up.

Judging by the front page, it appears as if we're going after a guard from Kent State.

Is Painter going to continue to pursue the graduate transfers for point guards? Sometimes he will get an Octeus and sometimes he will get a Hill. I wouldn't want to depend on this as a recruiting strategy, but he seems to be looking down that path again.

Well we have 4 open scholarships for next season. The question is why wouldn't you go out and try to find grad transfers that will help.

If he's OK with being a depth then bring him in! Wouldn't be a bad guy to have on the bench for injury insurance. Highly unlikely this guy takes minutes from either PG we already have but if Carsen struggles badly we may need Thomas. Two deep at PG is not ideal.

Another 2-guard grad transfer available is Demarquise (better known as Que) Johnson of Washington State: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/61773/que-Johnson

He was on the Washington State team a few seasons ago that dominated Purdue in the 2nd half when the Boilers had a 10 point halftime lead. That game made me so mad, lol.: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore?gameId=400519974

Anyway, he's another candidate for bringing more scoring versatility to the 2.

As I mentioned in another thread, C/PF Stefan Jankovic (Hawaii) decided to declare for the NBA Draft AND hire an agent. Also, SG grad-transfer Akeem Springs (Milwaukee) committed to Minnesota today.

Updates:

SG Rodney Pryor (Robert Morris) committed to Georgetown

SF Austin Arians (Milwaukee) committed to Wake Forest

Wouldn't some bigs be more along the lines of what we need?

Yes, one would be beneficial even if Swanigan returns. I think they need two if Swanigan leaves. I don't think one of them has to be a "big" per se, just a frontcourt player with length.

Yeah if Biggie leaves, we will need bigs. I'm fine if he stays. Basil can play the four if need be and Biggie can play the 5 at times.

No disrespect to Taylor. I have high hopes for him. But I am wait and see with him at this point.

V. Edwards can play the 4 as well. Heck, he can play 2 through 4, IMO. I don't think there's a need for as many traditional bigs or posts in today's college basketball landscape. They're going to have one in Haas. If Swanigan leaves, they will probably need one more quality big or post. It would be great if Taylor improves his toughness, embraces the physicality of the game, and "swims to new seas" next season. Then it wouldn't be as much of a concern.
