... already in the tourney. Doesn't help the image of the conference when Maryland and Minnesota can't win the games they are "supposed" to win. Hopefully, the conference will provide some good victories in the coming days. Put at least two teams into the sweet 16.

Go Purdue!

I picked both those to lose. Love MN, but their senior leader was injured....and they were given the toughest 12 seed in the tourney.

Anyone who saw X in their tourney new MD was in trouble.

Overall the B1G went about how it should in the first round.

"BIG" chances come Saturday, and maybe Sunday.

I thought the big repped well. The "upsets" were teams with injuries and frankly, weren't really upsets. That MTSU team has high major talent and obviously xavier has a bunch of talent. I never even thought about picking maryland because they haven't played well since the injury. If michigan st holds we will have 3 teams challenging 1 seeds. look out! Good chance we end up with 5 teams in the round of 32. Then we'll see how "down" the conference really is.

MTS was a slight favorite in Vegas as was Maryland. So according to the desert we only lost one game we shouldn't have. Middle Tennessee State played awesome and I think they will advance again tomorrow. Watch that Wisconsin game - they are only a point and a half dog to Nova.

It would be interestinteresting to see who has drawn the "hottest" mid majors or non power conference teams in the first round over the last several years. Maybe I am a believer in conspiracies, but I was disappointed a big 10 school drew MTS. 2 years in a row now and everyone knows they are good. That being said, there are a lot of good mid majors these days. Minnesota hasn't been playing their best basketball over the last few games. Bad timing for them. Reminds me of the General Keady teams. Played hard and over achieved all year, but usually weren't peaking at the right time. Some of his teams couldn't seem to kick it up a level once in the tournament. Perhaps due to giving it their all throughout the year and not being able to give even more.

ya drawing xavier as an 11 seed was also kind of a kick in the nuts. tough matchups for sure.

Perhaps MTSU should have been seeded better in both years. A #12 last year and maybe more like a #9/10 this year? Or given Minnesota's injury situation, perhaps they were closer to a 6/7?

In the end, they play the games as bracketed.....no real surprises, yesterday from a results perspective, and I don't see where any today might come taking another look at the brackets.....but you never know for absolutely sure; we shall see.

I thought Michigan and Minnesotas seeds should have been flip flopped to begin with. I think Michigan beats MTS and OK ST would be a better match up for Minnesota.

Maryland lost a seven footer that hurt Purdue a couple of weeks ago and MInny lost a starting two guard last week that was in his last year...I think.

Michigan and Maryland seeds should have been switched. Would have liked to have seen Michigan play X.

Michigan outlasted Oklahoma State in a really good contest, 92-91.....making FT's down the stretch.

Also, Michigan shooting terrific from deep, 16-29, including a stretch during the first 15 minutes of the second half where they were 11-14...11-15 for the entire second half. Could be really really interesting if they shoot like that in the next round, presumably against Louisville in the bottom half of the Midwest bracket.

By way of update, with Baylor and Michigan winning....now 18 games into the first round, and these two games are still the only two where a lower-seeded team has prevailed. A lot of chalk bracket-holders like that.

Given that ESPN declared the big wouldn't get out of round one, things look OK.

What's really confusing to me is that Maryland got a 6 seed and Wisconsin fell all the way to an 8. Both teams struggled down the stretch, but Wisconsin rebounded to get to the BTT final.

But as we have seen on this board, losing a game after losing a key player is just an excuse. Because basketball obviously isn't a team sport. o_O

I picked all the the B1G's to win their first game but one....Michigan State....go figure lol! And must admit I'm thoroughly enjoying the Miami-MSU game at the moment. But it's really early yet...

For as bad as MSU is playing, Miami's not really taking advantage of it. They definitely are not out of it.

And here come the Sparties....oh great. Leave it to MSU to start to spoil a perfectly good evening.

The BIG at 5 and 2 in the first round/second round, not too bad! Looks like MSU might have found their March mojo again. I hope the next round is as successful as the previous round. Some tough games lie ahead for sure. Pulling for Purdue of course! Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan State and Michigan all have an opportunity to make a major statement for the conference in this next round!

Wisconsin hanging tough with Villanova, up 31-27 at the half. Happ in foul trouble again with two; played only 6 minutes. Gonna ride Koenig and Hayes to the finish I guess.

Happ and Koenig are both on the bench with 3 fouls apiece.....tied at 37 with 14+ left. Gonna be tough for Bucky, but they are playing fairly disciplined.

Edit: Koenig came back in and picked up a charge.....ouch.
