Here’s hoping that the general crowd starts the chant at Every game this season so that the kids don’t get in to (non-enforceable) trouble…

Excerpt from the AP article covering the Purdue victory over Yale:

***

"The Boilermakers student section also was on its best behavior Monday after university officials threatened to remove anyone who repeated Friday's chant about firing football coach Ryan Walters."

We demand to know who leaked it...... 🧐

If as has been reported, the administration might be inclined to keep CRW around for another season, then an honest display of disgust might be the opposite of detrimental. Doubling down on a bad decision would be detrimental. The optics of silencing dissent is detrimental.

The letter is hypocritical as it casts a wide net that calls out behavior which they’ve not previously taken such a hard line on ( “IU Sucks” chant). For them to issue this statement now in this particular scenario suggests they are ramping up censorship to protect their own skins, and not due to any moral consistency.

Where has this been reported?

Sorry, didn’t mean to make that sound more official than it was. I was referring to the rumors here from people who scour social media inter-webs and stated that’s what they’ve heard people discussing. Should have said “rumored” to be more specific.

Regardless, until we hear something to the contrary, it’s going to be an increasing concern all season long. There would be no need to call for anybody to get fired if it was obvious that was the administration’s intent. People are just fearful they’re gonna find some stupid reason not to.

Understandable. I would feel better if Walters were fired already but I don't know if that changes anything other than we would know. I think he gets fired, this is a terrible season that doesn't appear to have many, if any, positives.

Not to turn this into a football topic, but I think Walters could end up being a great coach. He's clearly in over his head right now, but is Purdue willing to let him learn on the job. If we're just going to go out & hire another no name that has never been a head coach, then I don't see the point if firing him. If we're going to hire someone that has a proven record, then I'm all for it. IU has clearly hit a HR with their HC with a program that was in shambles, so it can be a fast turnaround with NIL & the right guy.
