Crickets: ESPN is Lame Rant!

So, for some reason I went to the ESPN website to check on the reactions to our big win over the number 2 team in the country and it was crickets! I realize our big TV contract is mostly tied to Peacock, Fox and BTN (majority Fox owned) and quite a few upcoming games on CBS as well, but good gravy. It is like the game wasn't even played. They have a pretty good website for looking up stats (which is one reason why I was still going there), but I am so done with ESPN. Other platforms ESPN supports/produces I am also diametrically opposed to. Now I have yet another reason to not support them. ESPN is majority own by Disney so that is all you need to know. If anyone is still supporting Disney (I no longer will), then I am sorry you are either ignorant or extreme.

Feel free to include any (short) hot takes.

Can Purdue win this game

On paper, it looks like a loss. All of the weaknesses of this Purdue team seem to be strengths for Alabama. Post defense and rebounds are a huge red flag in this game. Alabama plays three guys at 6’11” in the post and Purdue plays one seven footer alongside a guy 6’8”.

Well, the game won’t be played on paper. It’s being played in Mackey. So, all bets are off and the game comes down to who produces.

Alabama shoots a lot of threes. Alabama is shooting horribly thus far from deep so Purdue has a chance here.

Alabama likes to attack the rim and Purdue thus far has struggled to keep teams out of the paint. Advantage Alabama here.

Purdue is shooting 44% from deep. Tonight it will need for Alabama to continue missing while also have Purdue hitting it’s average on a higher number of attempts. Purdue has a chance here.

Does Mackey add an advantage against a very old Alabama team who just played in the final four? I think it can and will.

The question is, does Purdue have a chance to win tonight? I think it does but the team will really need to step up in areas they have been struggling with.

I personally have this game as a loss but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see this very talented Purdue team win this one at home.

It's early, but Illinois, Michigan and Ohio State seem to have the best talent and look to be favorites for the BT.
Illinois and Indiana pre conference schedules are really weak. ESPN has Purdue with toughest schedule left in the COUNTRY!
It's funny, even with a weak schedule, IU's high dollar guards have ratings of : Rice 0.6, Carlye -2.3! Galloway is their best guard at 3.1.

For the first time in the history of Democracy

The incumbent party lost votes in every developed nation in the world. I don’t think any candidate from either party could have won reelection in 2024, much less a lackluster one like Harris. The post covid inflation was too much to overcome, even though we managed it better than pretty much any other country.

Just thought this was a pretty interesting piece of big picture data.

It feels like 2021 season when Edey was coming into his own

Watching the team play the other night reminded me when Edey shared minutes with, was it Willams, early in his career.

Purdue is going to struggle this year until our 4s and 5s get more comfortable on the floor as their D seems slow, their aggressiveness is low, and their rebounding is down. As time progresses and the 4s/5s continues to improve, get comfortable, understand their assignments, and build that intuition with the 3s, 2s, and 1s, then we'll return to a top contender. That chemistry between Smith and Edey was magical.

Edey, and other big men before him, are hard to replace, but it will happen, just not in our timing.
