Schedule should be a little weaker, so that will help, but we will need to see what sort of roster we are going to have.
Who said thatSomeone on here a couple days ago suggested this and maybe having Eden is what made him. I think he wrong.
We need to retain his OC Marian for sure.Yeh, that is a concern, but it looks like UNLV ran a uptemp offense with a dual threat QB. With the right OC that the HC trusts, I think it negates that a little.
But.....I was also really, really excited about Graham Harrell. Like, grand slam, sure thing excited. Didn't turn out so well....
I don't remember exactly what happened, but I definitely remember it was a crap call. I was listening on radio, and the announcers were outraged. On a bullshit call at the end if I remember.
Thanks for this but this didnt at all say NET rankings dont mean anything. There are always outliers like Indiana State last year as no metric system is perfect, but the NET has been much better than the absolute joke that the RPI was.![]()
College basketball's NET rankings, explained
Here's everything you need to know about college basketball's NET ranking system.www.ncaa.com
Also:
What is NET?
The NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) is a rankings system used by the NCAA Tournament to assist in seeding teams for the NCAA Tournament. The system is based on game results, strength of schedule, game location and net offensive and defensive efficiency.
Is the NET the only tool used to seed teams?
No. If it were then predicting a bracket ahead of time would be very easy. NCAA Committee members are given NET as one of their tools to help them seed teams. Committee members will also look at the data points that make up the NET rankings and other metrics to help seed teams.
The key really with all of it is, what has the committee always said: Play a good schedule, play games on the road, and win. That's the point of the quads. Also, take a look at last year's NET rankings from the end of the regular season. Why didn't everyone's darling, Indiana State, make the field? Because they were 1-4 in Q1 games. Yet their NET was 28, ahead of 15!!!!! teams that actually DID make the field - as at-large bids, not AQs.

I agree I was responding to someone that said we would go up in kenpom with the win. It’s December - we’ve beaten Bama, Ole Miss, NC State, and a one loss extremely talented Maryland team today - these games make you better in March - could care less what we are now
I understand but it hasn’t been how paint has operated. And it’s a tough sell to some of these guys that want $$ and guaranteed playing time.I disagree. I don't think relying on DJ, who's not ready physically, was a good gamble.
I also think that it's the coaches job to constantly be looking to upgrade. Last year, we had a high volume shooter/scorer come in and become a really important piece of a FF team.
These guys know there's no guarantees and it's Painters job to win, not keep guys happy.
Mullen hopin for the unc jobI'm OK with the hire. I like that he has HC experience in the SEC, so the lights won't be too bright.
Would love to know who Bobo's first call was to? What call was Odom? Did we reach out to Campbell, Mullen, Kelly?
I believe Odom was in the $2M range at UNLV, I suspect we got him for....$5M? Hopefully he brings his staff and any players who can play in the B10.
I’d rather keep Davila, better arm and I think possibly more upside? Both would be even better. If he can keep Browne around and bring his OC, next year could be interesting.
"Penn State is a very good team, athletic and has superior guard play."Penn State is a very good team, athletic and has superior guard play. The final score was not indicative of the their total domination of Purdue. Let's see how they do on the road in the BIG. They should get even better as they meld their new pieces together. Their coach is using the best attributes of his team very well. As for Purdue, life after Edey is a learning curve both offensively and defensively. They need a full fledged breakout from one of the trio of Heide, Colvin, or Harris to finish higher than fourth. I mean a breakout that is consistent, not a one game wonder.
64? Yeah no doubt, but you're still not going to put a cap on how many teams from XYZ conference get in. The best teams should make it.
Yeh, that is a concern, but it looks like UNLV ran a uptemp offense with a dual threat QB. With the right OC that the HC trusts, I think it negates that a little.Hope it works out better than the past 3 defensive minded coaching hires. I felt certain Bobo would atleast look for a sharp offensive mind.
Edey would make 365 teams better if he played with them! DUH! Braden is one of the best point guards in the country, now that Edey has gone, his numbers are even better, EVEN though teams don't have to worry about Edey and can concentrate on Braden. Braden is the best point guard Purdue has ever have had with or without Edey!He played great today. Doesn't mean he always will. For the next 18 months, he will have that stigma that Edey made him better than he is. I don't disagree with the statement. Can he still be an AA candidate, POY candidate, and lead this team to great heights? Yes. But he's better with Edey than without him. No question in my mind.
I disagree. I don't think relying on DJ, who's not ready physically, was a good gamble.I think it’s hindsight 20/20 Tho. If DJ doesn’t go down, I don’t think it’s as big of a deal. Paint is loyal to his guys to a fault and no transfer guy was coming in to play a good amount of mins over who we have…or at least not have a guarantee to play and not be a featured guy.
Purdue will be ok. Maryland is a good team. If we can get a 3-6 seed in Midwest region, that’s all that matters.
And if we’re hiring him build a staff in-general and work from there, that’s fine. If we’re hiring him based largely on his Top 25 UNLV success and the aim is to duplicate that here, however, that’s due to the offense Marion created & it doesn’t work without him. We should learn very quickly which version we’re getting…People the head coach for a major program is the CEO of football. They don't need to know everything. But they do need to hire the right people to be successful. Odom has shown he could do that. Any successful coordinator will want to be head college someday. That's just how it works. Overall I think this a good hire considering the dumpster fire we had in the last couple of years. Boiler Up.
He ain’t a star in the making…he already is made.We may have won today but we also witnessed a true star in the making. Queen will thankfully only be around one year.

Paint is loyal to his guys to a fault and no transfer guy was coming in to play a good amount of mins over who we have…or at least not have a guarantee to play and not be a featured guy. That was my main complaint with Painter not going to the portal this year. There’s some holes that could have been filled.
No, I’m perfectly fine with putting a cap of 3 but, even then, think that you really shouldn’t have the chance to call yourself National Champions if you failed to qualify for your Conference Championship because of your record or a head-to-head tiebreaker…64? Yeah no doubt, but you're still not going to put a cap on how many teams from XYZ conference get in. The best teams should make it.
