Berg

Bergs most time played has come against lesser competiton. So just citing shooting percentage isn't really relevant.

All those people you cited are WAY better than Berg and were so from the very start. It isn't even close. Berg started late. That's not his fault. His hard work is probably more than most of us, including myself have ever done. He should be respected and commended for that. But, unfortunately, hard work sometimes just isn't enough.
you are jumping the gun.

Talk about pain. When musberger said “they’re gonna put the I back behind the full back here” I just remember thinking “they’re gonna throw it.”

Playing that way against the true powers is something we haven’t sniffed since 2003. Even in 2021 they handled Iowa and Penn state but had no chance against Ohio state. Michigan is another matter because they cheated
A couple of close losses in that same year but yeah this one hurt bad.

2 flips from UNLV

2002 team was pretty good on D. Held National Champion Ohio State to 3 points before giving up a game winning TD near the end. It was a long td pass, I was there and can still see it. Final was 10-6. Clarett had like 60 yards rushing.

Was it though?

I think we could have had just about any G5 guy we wanted and the staff took a shot on the charismatic long shot guy and lost.
So you’re aware that if someone didn’t get hurt in Brohm’s last year, he was about to get bought by a power program the same way Scourton did. If you know that, candidates know that. In the meantime everyone involved in Purdue was acting like it wasn’t real.

But if your desired outcome is for Bobinski and grimes to go for hiring Walters, I’d be fine with that. He was a disaster. People who make disastrous decisions get fired

He has played at various spots in games, but I stand by the fact he's not gonna be looking like he can do much at all playing 4-6 minutes a game. Going back to when Cline played behind Mathias. Cline didn't look like he did much until Mathias was gone. Painter was even interviewed saying that it is hard for guys to get in a rhythm not getting many minutes.

Berg

Bingo. Furst isn't a shot blocker but he can guard on the perimeter and in the post. He can also hedge or switch off screens versus playing drop coverage.

I don't buy that Berg is 'so slow' but he's going to be a liability on the perimeter against 5's who can shoot threes or drive and he's going to have to play drop coverage versus switching on screens. I don't think he's scoring, rebounding or blocking shots at a high enough level to offset those weaknesses on defense. I hope he continues to get some playing time against traditional bigs as I think he's continuing to get better as he gets more comfortable.
I wonder my stats would be if I played 4-6 minutes a game?

See how they do in the portal after a great season. If they get destroyed by ND that can bring them and possible transfers back to reality.
Did losing to a #16 seed bring our basketball recruiting ‘back to reality’?
“We’re good enough to get to the playoffs right now but you are the missing piece to give IU their first National Championship in football”…

Did IU belly up with NIL funds? Their recruiting classes (2024 and 2025) aren’t highly rated and most of their transfers followed their coach. Rourke was arguably their most impactful transfer and had offers from wake forest and byu.

They also had Iwuchukwu as a freshman. Keglar also would have made the rotation but had a high ankle sprain early in the season. Even George Hall from those linebackers had a cup of coffee in the NFL. Talk about a loaded linebacking corps. That whole D was incredibly talented.

Well, had IU not bellied up with NIL funds, I doubt Ciggy boy would have won as many this year as he did. If PU fails to pony up the money, it's going to be very tough on a newly rich coach because there's not a lot of players coming from UNLV.
