New recruit

Good to see interest in some higher rated players Purdue has offered. Yah I realize the ratings and stars are just that and they may actually not perform any better than others at the next level. He was offered in July of ‘24. Looks like a good player and athleticism in his family since his dad had a professional career. Seems to be increasing interest from guys offered in the 2026 class… Bass, Bo Ogden, Talen Kinney, Trey Thompson and Steven Reynolds all taking visits… I just think its fun tracking interest and the recruiting of potential Boilers!

Not sure if the overseas girl is a project or not, none of us know. My point still stands though, pretty solid class. I’m no fan of Gearlds, just stating I think she’ll for sure get another year, do you disagree? My post wasn’t put up for debate really unless you think she’ll be fired, I don’t see that happening.
If the AD was half way competent, she would be fired and it already announced. I don't think Bobo is half that good though so she will get at least one more year, and it would not surprise me to get 5 more as he really only cares about football and men's basketball PERIOD FULL STOP.

The big problem with this scenario is it sends out a VERY CLEAR message that Purdue does not care about women's basketball, and that could really make it hard to find a good replacement for Gearlds unless the AD is replaced first. Of course if Bobo the clown cared any at all about women's basketball he would not have hired someone so completely unqualified to be our head coach.

I understand what you are saying. It was the main two and others chipped in towards the W. Cam was big on the boards. Myles, Fletch and CJ added some positives as Myles and CJ were more aggressive offensively which forced UCLA to worry about a couple of others. BTW, Myles putting the ball on the floor and dribbling into a pullup reminded me of him in high school...and obviously something he is capable of doing because UCLA is stingly on D. Wish Purdue could get 6 points or more out of Caleb...and that Caleb can drive the ball into a scoring position.

I have typed a few times over the years about going 15 feet with one dribble. Last night Trey went 20 feet with one dribble and that explosiveness is hard to defend...maybe I can spot it on Video and TExas can provide it for all to see. Trey has good footwork inside and showed a good first step in that 20 foot drive with one dribble.

Trey's drive against UCLA

@boilerzz IN another thread I typed a reply to boilerzz about the fact I have typed over the years a few times about only needing one dribble to go 15 feet. I told Boilerzz in that reply that Trey went 20' with one dribble and I was wrong, because he covered more than 20 feet in the drive. This is why I believed Myles could get into the lane with two dribbles even if his ball handling was not good enough to go more than two dribble. I found this clip, but perhaps @Purdue Grad in Texas without much work can get this clip a second or two earlier. I tried to capture the video as close as possible Login to view embedded media

His athletic ability and need to score enabled him in high school. His mechanics are not good and he has "less" need (but boy would I love to seem him get proficient in scoring) today than in high school.
I absolutely agree, but thought the coaches could have worked on his mechanics for as long as he’s been in the program.

Passing to Furst.... underneath might be the most unproductive play we have. 80% of the time either a TO or if somehow he does manage to get one up...a missed shot & going the other way. If fouls are called....those foul shots are iffy. I can only remember a very few occasions where he amazingly has scored in traffic.

We need his D. He does that well. But find someone else underneath
Agreed. Almost shocked if he does score.

Faux News' Jesse Watters' Friend Got DOGE'd

You think DOGE revealed this untraceable budget line as a way to cover up untraceable payments to Musk?

I stand by my statement that his gov contracts are out in the open.

Great job by Cam. There are games were Colvin also showed great flashes of determind rebounding and other non scoring contributions. My question is this, as sophomores how do they not yet know that this effort has to happen close to 100% of the time to really contribute? Even if the shot is not going down? I am sure teammates and coaches see these flashes of effort and determination and coach this consistency , but it just does not happen. When will the light go off?

She has 2 good recruits and one project coming in. The two good recruits are both posts, an area that is not our greatest weakness this season. We will definitely bring in 2-5 portal players for depth and practice if nothing else, but judging by Gearlds coaching style so far, they will likely have 1-3 starters in that mix that will play big minutes while adding nothing to the team. She is addicted to that portal crack, just like the PSU coach Krueger, and both will likely miss out on the BTT this year AND next because they are two of the worst three coaches and programs in the Big Ten.

It’s hard to believe a former Mr. Basketball has so much trouble scoring after being in the system this long. A player has to be able to score to get that award so it’s perplexing on what the issue is.

I'd argue it was Smith, TKR and Heide, with a sprinkling of Loyer, Cox and Colvin and perhaps a smidge of Harris, Furst and Burgess.

Still a longshot

Yeah pretty much. Interestingly, if Wisconsin crashes and we end up in a 3-way tie with them and UCLA at 13-7, we end up 6th. HOWEVER, if you put Maryland in that 13-7 tiebreaker, we end up 3rd. Still a lot to be determined. We can be anywhere from 2nd to 7th.

Yes - still some crazy scenarios, but if I were forced to wager, Purdue is on the 4/5 line, leaning toward 4. IF so and IF they get to and past the QF game, could get interesting. Guessing Michigan State will be the top seed.

Agreed. I can recall at least 3 diff times where smith as abo it to shoot but passed to furst and Loyer did it once too.

I would much rather them shoot an acrobatic or maybe not so great shot over passing to Furst to try and score. It may technically be the correct read/pass, but at this point, Furst isn’t going to score or shoot it.

I wish Loyer would let it fly when he has less than 3 ft of separation from his man. If he misses a few, So what? He’s one of the top 3pt shooters in the country

I agree. I am literally screaming at the TV. SHOOT IT!!!. Especially Loyer.

Painter post-game

I have to admit, I had no idea what he was talking about with all the strategy stuff. Spain??? Starting around 12:30 of this clip.

I’m with you and didn’t follow all it but in a Spain screen action a big sets a middle ball screen at the top of the key while a guard/shooter sets a back screen on the big’s defender. Big rolls to the rim after screening and if the back screen is effective he has a path to the rim and ball handler gets him the ball. Simultaneously the guard/ shooter who set the back screen pops out to the three point line at the top and often gets an open look if his defender gets caught up taking away the roll man.

By George, I think he's got it.....
