Purdue at Washington: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Their starters go 6'0, 6'5, 6'5, 6'9, 7'0. Their top bench guy is 6'1.

Shelstad at 6'0 is a stud. Started slow this year but is tearing it up of late. It will be another great test for CJ/Braden. Bittle, the 7'0 dude is an interesting guy and will be a different matchup for TKR.

They don't generate a ton of steals (ranked 103rd) and are just 16th in the conference in conference only games in forcing turnovers.

Bittle is the guy that caught my eye during the little I watched them. Massive. Wondered how we would match up. Another kid (Angel?) was also impressive as he was all over the place, making things happen both ways.

I agree, big test. Will look forward to how CMP game plans for it. Their low steals & turnovers bodes well for us.

Maybe, they’re not a great team, however, on the road Purdue has to play much better than last night to have a chance. A first half like yesterday and Purdue is likely down 15 at a minimum verse Oregon, that can’t happen.
Oregon will likely be a slight favorite with it being a home game. Definitely have to shoot better to beat them.

Have only caught them in passing on commercials or halftimes of games of more interest........Do you think they have the length and speed at guards to give us (Braden) fits?

Trump flexed, Hamas caved.. Shocker

But the deal did occur under Biden's watch.
Right, it's exactly like the release of Iran embassy hostages when Reagan became president. A pathetic wimp POTUS does nothing for over a year, then when a tough-talking new sheriff takes over - boom, hostages released. Israel may need to drop a couple dozen 2,000 lb smart bombs into Gaza to get Hamas thinkin' straight.

Purdue at Oregon

It's crazy to me how Poole is being played. 7 minutes against MSU, no minutes against UCLA, start and get 11 minutes against Michigan, and then DNP again against Oregon.

Amiyah starts several games, but gets single digit minutes in many/most of them.

Collier still starting even though her numbers in Big Ten play are atrocious. She leads the team in minutes played at 29.5, but averages 4.5 ppg which is 7th on the team and the greatest shooter Katie Gearlds has EVER seen is shooting a blistering 30% fro the field and from behind the arc.

Another positive I would mention is our freshmen posts held their own against 6'8" Kyei. Kyei still got 12 points, but she did not dominate us the way you might think a senior that big might.
Tough to grow with inconsistent minutes like that.

Swanson has some turnover issues but that's about everyone else on the team. Her shot selection could be better, but she is just more dynamic offensively and defensively compared to Collier. She's still very young, considering she didn't even play that much last season(12.6 mins). Give her some leash and let her grow. Jones had a big leash yesterday and played better for it in the 2nd half.

CKG has been quick to bench alot of players for bad play. I get wanting to teach players lessons and especially in tight games, these turnovers could be killer, but we haven't been in tight games. Let these underclassmen work through their turnovers/mistakes.

The posts were alright yesterday but we double teamed Kyei alot. When she wasn't double teamed, she had her way. My biggest issue with the posts right now is the ball screen coverage. Our guards are left out to dry on screens, while our posts sit back protecting the drive. Oregon hit alot of mid range jumpers because of this.

I think both deserve credit, I realize on these boards this isn’t likely a good answer. The partisanship on here is an example of how social media has divided this country, we actually have groups of people (both sides) that would rather see things go bad than give the other side credit.

I am sure the Biden team, did some background work, and will concede that.

But hopefully you remember from Purdue Chemistry...... sometimes big chemical reactions takes a CATALYST, and it sure wasn't Biden. Without the catalyst nothing happens.

We are a FF contender if THIS version of Caleb Furst returns for the 24/25 season.

To quote Jon Rothstein " Death Taxes and Matt Painter" It's not the players you have but how you use what you have. I suppose we all forget the great coaching job, or we take it for granted. He lost the two biggest parts of his recruiting class, and yet we are title contenders for both the B1G Ten and National Championship. I doubt we would be much better with Catchings or Jacobsen replacing Cox and Furst. Props to Caleb he knows the game and how to play it. But for me I'm in awe of another GREAT coaching job.

I suppose if things fell just exactly 100% perfect on matchups....maybe NC?? Long odds on that though. But agree, more likely a shot at a B10 championship is still realistically in reach.

100% agree on coach. A master of his craft.

I'm happy, but when things happen it is always appropriate to ask...what happened and why now? Having known Ulric Haynes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulric_Haynes (RIP) due to his friendship with a brother-in-law and one of the negotiators in the 400 day hostage situation in Iran I realize his and others never contributed to the release. It wasn't until the day Reagan took office that they were released and we know why that is so. Same with Trump, and they can wait out for him to leave office with anticipation that another won't carry the stick Reagan and Trump carried. They will play the long game...

Purdue at Washington: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

I don't usually go into the game thread during the game and sometimes don't even after a game. But when I do, a big part of the reason is to see what the mental midgets (and notably that guy) said in an emotional fit.
There’s 3 that come to mind, sometimes I wonder if 1 person has a few accounts? Many times the posts come right after the other. Let’s bench TKR the entire second half and let’s play the reserves in the second half is moronic, if Painter does that Purdue loses the game, Heaven forbid a player and team in a road game out west has a down first half. Purdue was 7.5 favorites last night, they covered, great second half, let’s win another in Oregon, won’t be easy.

Purdue at Oregon

17 turnovers in the first half did us in. This team isn't built to come back from deficits, and with how offensively challenged we are, we need to get a shot off as much as possible each possession down the court. Hard to do with 17 first half turnovers.

Negatives - Turnovers^

Collier - 31 mins. 0-2. Battled on the boards but for as much as she plays, she brings no threat driving to the hoop, isn't making plays for other teammates. She's probably in the right spot defensively but has her limits athletically. I wouldn't mind seeing Swanson take some of her minutes.

Positives -

Spider Jones - yes 6 turnovers, and most of them were horrendous, but she played much better in the 2nd half, maybe had 1 TO? in the 2nd. 17 points on 8-10. Drove the ball, had her mid range going. 4 asts as well. She's the only player as of now that can get to the bucket and create for others. Said it before, she's at her best when she's driving to score. When she's driving to pass, the bad outcomes are more likely to appear.

Layden - 9 points(career high?), 9 rebs. She was active defensively and battled down low. Good first start, I'd like to see her start the rest of the year and log heavy minutes. You can see her gaining confidence. She also does a relatively good job protecting the ball.

Final thoughts -

We really need a point guard who can take care of the ball, create open looks for everyone, and be a threat scoring wise. Reynolds and Poole need more minutes to see if one or both are able to play at this level.

It's crazy to me how Poole is being played. 7 minutes against MSU, no minutes against UCLA, start and get 11 minutes against Michigan, and then DNP again against Oregon.
