Those are the only ones that are a big loss.Hopefully, we will be able to get Klare and Dillon back.

Still very much early days. I think Braden is the best PG in the conference still next to Baldwin. There are not really any top tier shooting guards in the Big 10 that come to mind, so I can see 1st team all big ten go to Braden and Baldwin. Think Harper should be second team.

He's a very good guard, not great, but against our interior D, he might look phenomenal.
I still like Smith as top 1st or 2nd team ALL B10. Loyer, bless his heart, D drags the pair down as pairing the two on D is a problem....Smith average, Loyer below average. Still love his deadly 3 pt shooting and his ability to draw fouls by being a floor mop....and is why CMP plays him.
Yes. Exactly. He rewards guys who play hard, know his system, know where to be and who give Purdue the best chance to win. If they do that, they will play over transfers. Unless that transfer is the better option. Lance was a perfect example of all that, but even he was surprised he became a starter.True to what word? I think Painter probably tells his current guys the same thing he tells portal guys: You earn your starting spot and PT every week.
How is he really bad on defense? He's a good player and a very good 3 pt shooter. but he's pretty one dimensional on offense and really bad on D. He would have be the position where the portal could have provided a bigger, stronger, more athletic guy who a still shoot and score other ways.
As for the portal, his plane touched down a day ago and he probably spent most of today addressing our team and current gaps. It’s day 1 so we have zero clue how he will go about it. Gotta give it time and it’s just nice to have a coach in place rather than fall behind. UNLV was horrendous prior to his arrival and he took them to back to back bowl games for the first time in program history.Checking the portal, he doesn't have a lot to bring with him. Out of 17 of his players entering the portal, only seven are left. I'd think it's easier for a coach to win at Mizzou and UNLV than at Purdue.
Campbell comes up in every coaching search, every year for every team. Dude is not leaving Iowa State at this point I am not even sure a Blue Blood could pull him.Im just not sure who was out there, and I read a lot of lists from the “experts”. The reach coaches that came up were Iowa State and Arizona State and neither was leaving for Purdue in its current state. Perhaps that’s what you mean by settling and I get it. However, among the small schools we got a guy that has a resume that’s a step above WKU coach that I’d expected AND I think that’s a good thing considering BoBos last off script hire
Yes, the SEC is so much easier than the BIG and Mizzou is such a historically better program on top of it.Checking the portal, he doesn't have a lot to bring with him. Out of 17 of his players entering the portal, only seven are left. I'd think it's easier for a coach to win at Mizzou and UNLV than at Purdue.
I thought I saw he was expected to be at $3.75m with the whole package. And there was some thought if he waited another year he might have some better options so I suspect it will be closer to $6m.I'm OK with the hire. I like that he has HC experience in the SEC, so the lights won't be too bright.
Would love to know who Bobo's first call was to? What call was Odom? Did we reach out to Campbell, Mullen, Kelly?
I believe Odom was in the $2M range at UNLV, I suspect we got him for....$5M? Hopefully he brings his staff and any players who can play in the B10.
Very reassuring...no mumblespeak, no over-the-top rah rah foolishness, no gimmicky name for the playbook. There is a short 45 second clip. Loved the way he presented himself. Short and to the point.

I'd think it's easier for a coach to win at Mizzou and UNLV than at Purdue.I think he deserves more credit than that and wouldn’t call this settling. He took over two programs that were in bad spots and put them in the + side of the win column. So if anything he could help us get out of shitville. We are coming off of a 1-11 season. If in his first 3 years he does what he did at Mizzou 4, 7 and 8 wins….I’d say that’s remarkable progress given the current state and schedules we have.
With the DC, it was basically just a patsy to run Walters system. There was 0 difference in results when Kane called it vs when Walters called it. It schematically didn’t work without NFL guys seemingly at every spot. And if you have that, ANY defense should work at this level. How could Walters hire an OC and DC that showed piss poor results on the field and expect to keep his job?? I thought that the DC was just as bad if not worse than the offense......
guess Breedlove wasn't impressed, but he seems to like moving on to different teamsI guess I'm curious if the players who have entered the portal were present for this introduction. I mean, they're still at Purdue, so I guess they should be, right?
This gives me hope that maybe, just maybe we will complete a game without dumb penalties. There is a short 45 second clip. Loved the way he presented himself. Short and to the point.

The portal offers more mature, experience players that have a resume of performance at some level in college. It offers a coach a better understanding of the "physical skills" a player has. Why is the player in the portal? Is money in play...playing time...chance to be on a bigger stage or a personal challenge? As others have noted, you can get the skills and a player than not only doesn't fit the culture but is a detriment to it. You can get a bad fit out of high school as well, but more than likely not have a freshman that is as crucial to the void to be filled in the portal. Use to be with Juco's the word was it usually took two years for them to be as productive as desired...many times an academic challenge it seemed. Both have advantages and disadvantages, but I like 4* players (certainly take the right 5*s) that want to win and will work to do so that are not selfish in what they personally want to achieve in a certain timeline. Lance was HUGE! Cherished the chance to play at Purdue...no NIL talk, just a chance to compete at the highest level and bringing joy in doing it. Great locker room guy, great fill of a void and great culture. Others are out there like Lance, but most are not. Find the right ones...great, but there is always more to it than the skills you see...and to a degree that can happen down both paths.Nope. It's his job to bring in players that fit Purdue's culture. He could have brought in additional players, but chose not to.
I haven't heard yet, but the UNLV AD was pretty non-committal when questions were asked about him and was not automatically named the interim coach. The AD is looking at getting a head coach with experience. Are we also getting his OC Marian?
Especially during FINALS week. But, I suspect this is one of many public appearances the coach will make over the coming months. It does allow students, staff, and fans a chance to hear the coach ASAP post team meeting. I have to believe he is in the works for the next MBB game and possibly the WBB WVB. If I were advising him, you want to get out in front of the public as much as possible to drive excitement. He has to win over hearts and mind!I obviously don't know how scheduling works for these types of things, but introducing the new football coach at 9am on a Tuesday morning at Mackey with nothing else surrounding it seems a little, I don't know, weird? Are you going to get several thousand people there? I doubt it. Granted the deal and travel likely couldn't have gotten done in time for the basketball game yesterday, but couldn't it be timed better?
It will be nice add a block P to it again. Seeing JMU on it this year is unbearable.HC Odom brings the bucket home next year. Not sure it would go to Mackey given the new football complex built for Purdue sports next to Ross Ade.
WTF are you talking about??Wow, that didn't age well, did it?
I think it’s exam week too so with the little energy the students have I doubt they’d show out in large numbers.I obviously don't know how scheduling works for these types of things, but introducing the new football coach at 9am on a Tuesday morning at Mackey with nothing else surrounding it seems a little, I don't know, weird?
