Dowuona playing on exhibition tour of Ukraine

Minutes does not dictate skill level.....just importance in role and need on floor.

Top Minutes in order:

Gillis (Fr.) Grady Eifert role 1st year.....just play hard
Dow (R. Fr) Grady Eifert role....just play hard

Picking nits here, but I would posit that the Grady Eifert role is not only playing hard, but playing smart. No one played harder than Grady but he also has excellent basketball instincts, which is why he was so often in the right place at the right time. Having grown up in Indiana, Gillis may be able to fill/emulate that role, but Dow, having only played the game for a few years (and not at all at the collegiate level) is still learning the game and I just don't see him currently have the savvy to fill that Grady role. Fortunately he's in a great learning environment, especially since Grady himself is on the staff. I have no doubt Dow will play hard and hopefully his play will earn him minutes and he will blossom to where he could have an impact on the season

If Dow plays well he could alleviate the fouling concern you note. It will be interesting to see how those situations play out. How deep are we?
Here’s to putting all this in perspective I think we all can agree this team will have its fair share of athletes size skilled positions shooters speed experience youth and more. We all can agree painter has multiple lineups he can play with young or experienced players. Each of these players in the off season put in massive work on there games and I can bet we all will see massive improvements bcuz some will be starters and play more min in term will see more production. Who play were in what positions may not matter as much bcuz I think team is 2 deep at every position some others can play even more than that if need be. All this means this team got a lot of talented pieces that cud be interchangeable parts that may cause some matchups that cud cause problems for teams. A great problem to have the competition I believe will be competitive at certain positions and with more than likely a different looking offense that fits the style of this team bcuz this team is very athletic quick have great size at certain positions we cud see a faster pace team that get up and down more a lot of screens being set and lots of ball movement that will have teams trying to keep up with these guys. I’m excited and ready to watch these boys put it al together and prove once again never count this team out no matter what player leaves next man up

Minutes does not dictate skill level.....just importance in role and need on floor.

Top Minutes in order:
Eastern-obviously needs to be floor to lead team and defense.
Haarms- will be on floor unless foul trouble or matchup issue
Proctor (SR.)- most experienced shooting guard
Tre (Soph)- Lots of minutes at the 4 spot and mixed in at 5 spot
EB (SR.)- Experienced post player at 4 or 5
Wheeler (R Soph)- Most versatile player will play 3 and 4 and be 6th man award
Hunter (Soph) solid minutes at 1 and 2 spot.
Newman (Fr.) So athletic and can shoot will get minutes at 2 and 3 spot
Sasha (R. Soph) Quick dead eye shooter...instant scoring at 2 and 3 spot
Gillis (Fr.) Grady Eifert role 1st year.....just play hard
Dow (R. Fr) Grady Eifert role....just play hard
Thompson (Fr.-Red Shirt IMO) Red shirt....Eastern and Hunter show.

I think Sasha sees a lot of minutes and may even start. I don't know much about Proctor though.
Unless EB has really improved his game he'll be hard pressed to find the floor.
DOW could surprise, he has the look of an NBA PF.
I think the season hinges on Wheeler.
We know Eastern, Haarms, Tre will be very good.
We have guards that can shoot.
If Wheeler can be consistently good (he showed flashes) this team could be really special.
Really looking forward to this season.

Sasha is my favorite on the team......quick dead eye release shooter and gives it all on defense.

To be honest Sasha is gonna surprise many. He just didn’t play much and once he gets more minutes look out cud leave Purdue as one of the great shooters to come out of Purdue. He got more to his game than just shooting too I’m really excited to see this guy finally get his Chance to showcase his skulls. I comment on these players bcuz I’ve seen a lot of them play in HS b4 they got to Purdue and these guys got game just most had to wait there turn when u have senior heavy team and players at certain positions played better now all of that is gone now he and some others will have there chance to finally ball

Who will play will depend on the situation, I think ED will get more minutes than most think as a Rim protector. Williams (4) will be impossible to stop on the Hi-low with Haarms at high post. Wheeler, Sasha, Newman & Gillis will be our wing gunners. All will have their moments based on the situational needs at the time. Remember, fouls, injuries, opposing personnel and a general feel of who plays well together will all contribute. Painter will have the opportunity to be a master chemist this year.

I think it's a mistake to put limits on players who were back-ups the previous year. It's always fun to see experienced players step up and surprise, playing above expectations of the conventional wisdom. This year I am expecting multiple players to do that.

You think the guy who is arguably our best player will be 6th in minutes? Bold strategy, Cotton.
Ya i would say it's about a 0% chance Boudreaux gets more minutes than wheeler. I would also say it's about the same chance that proctor is our leading scorer.

I still think you're over estimating EB. He'll be closer to Dow in minutes than Tre. There's a log jam at the 5 and unless EB has added a lot of quickness and speed to his game over the summer, he'll still be limited at the 4. There's just too much talent on this team. I'd put the over/under for avg. minutes per game for EB at 5.
I think EB gets solid minutes this year. People are way underselling him. He won't start, but I expect him to be around 8-9th in minutes. His minutes may slide back when we get toward the end of the year and CMP shortens the bench, but I expect we will see a lot of him through the first half of the season.

You make 7 observations, here.
Five are anywhere from probably true to definitely true.
One, about Sasha, is middle of the road.
One more, about Dow looking like an NBA PF, seems mostly like wishful thinking.( But let us wish)
Humble opinion.

What I saw from the limited overseas clip:
-Rebounding
-picking pockets of rim attackers
-decent free throws (saw him making first 3/4)
-tenacity/on the ball pressure

Maybe my eyes were so biased, but Dow will be a force with experience.

That is all!

Geaux Dow!
Geaux Boilers!!

Boiler Up!!!

Well that all sounds good but I saw a report that he lost 800 points the other day. Very concerning if it’s true.

One point , IT will not redshirt. I'm hearing that he is doing great. Besides that would put him in the same class as Morton and I don't believe CMP would want both of them in the same class
Good info, thanks for contributing...….

He is a scorer, so would love to see him on the floor....but has a small non big ten body frame, so a year with the weights and learn the system would be good.

I see no problem with Morton and Thompson in same class...Thompson could slide over to the 2 spot because of his outside shooting.

I figured a red shirt because of small frame and to put space between Eastern and Hunter...…

I think Eastern is gone after this year possibly and that would give a co-share at the point with Hunter, Thompson and Morton.

All good stuff and all great young men who wear Purdue on their chest with pride...love that!

What a luxury for 1) Dow, that he has at least two years to practice with and against Tre and Matty H every day 2) Purdue to have that level of talent to provide spot minutes and an insurance policy

There is a reasonable argument to be made that he will be our best player this year, yes. Time will tell. He will definitely be top 5 in minutes on the team.
To each their own. To me, he’s not in the top 3 of returning players.

5: Haarms/EB/Tre (Dow gets minimal minutes this year)
4: Tre/Wheeler/Gillis (Tre will split min here with Wheeler, Gillis mixed in)
3: Sasha/Newman (Sasha will start, Newman will play a bunch and Wheeler and Gillis mix in)
2: Proctor/Newman/Hunter (Proctor will dominate the minutes but Hunter and Newman will mix in)
1: Eastern/Hunter/Thompson (I see Thompson red shirting giving more min to Eastern and Hunter)

*Note: Luce and Wilburn keep everyone sharp in practice!

Top Minutes in order:
Eastern (JR.)
Haarms (JR.)
Proctor (SR.)
Tre (Soph)
EB (SR.)
Wheeler (R Soph)
Hunter (Soph)
Newman (Fr.)
Sasha (R. Soph)
Gillis (Fr.)
Dow (R. Fr)
Thompson (Fr.-Red Shirt IMO)

If Thompson doesn't red shirt then slide him in between Dow and Gillis.

Painter likes older experienced players so I see EB and Proctor getting lots of minutes.

Newman and Sasha are the scorers and will push for minutes, but what awesome weapons to bring in off the bench....Newman so athletic and Sasha dead eye shooter with quick release.....

Very deep team with hardly any drop off in skill...just youth.

Chevy, you are the eternal Boiler optimist, and I appreciate that. However, where, according to you and other optimists, will the points come from this year? We had 2 rare breeds last season: a super stud who seemed to elevate his game with the competition, and a sniper. Who, play tell, will make the Big Bucket this season? Who wants the ball when MSU has us by 1 with 30 seconds and 1 possession remaining?

You say there’s a 0% chance and want even odds? Something is off there.
im not a casino or bookie. if you want to do a bet over the internet ill do even odds. if not then i really don't care. If proctor is our leading scorer this upcoming season we're in serious trouble.

Why?

Why not let it play out?

Painter has CLEARLY developed a system .... a bench of players that CONTINUES to replenish itself.

Let the players play. Let Painter develop.

It doesn't have to be settled on an internet forum in August.

On your first point, fair enough, to each his own, we all have our own risk profiles when actual money is on the line.

Regarding Proctor as the leading scorer, I’m torn. I agree that it’s highly unlikely to happen. If that we’re to occur I’m not certain it means that others haven’t stepped up, only that the scoring is very balanced and Proctor is better than most hoped for.

Not Chevy, but I don’t think there’s any shortage of guys who want that shot. Nojel and Tre will want the ball for sure. I suspect that Matty H will as well and I don’t think that Proctor, Wheeler or Sasha would shy away from it.
