Coronavirus Data

Seriously? You can already look at that on the CDC website. It’s unquestionably higher well beyond standard deviation.

And there were plenty of Trumpers on this forum predicting COVID-19 would just go away after the election. It is dominating headlines, deaths and cases are higher than ever. It has nothing - NOTHING - to do with politics until you start looking at how governments have handled it. California has gone high and right. Many states haven’t done enough, IMO. And a vaccine isn’t going to magically make it go away in a few weeks. We still have to distance and wear masks for several more months.

I’m talking about full year data. What percentage of the population died in 2020 versus 2019?

I guess you can’t interpret that from the graph? OK... you’re being obtuse.
Obviously we have more deaths in 2020, and that’s a tragedy.

My point is, you need to take a 30,000 view of it. When we review mortality rates from 2018 thru 2022, my guess will be that they average out to be not too much higher than normal. We’ll see.

Look. At. The. Graph. The population didn’t just magically stepwise increase from 2019 to 2020. Do you not understand what that graph is showing you? It’s plainly obvious all-cause mortality is well above expected values this year, and even above normal thresholds for higher death years. I truly don’t understand how an educated person can look at that graph and go, “yeah, that’s probably normal”.

I did. Your assertion that five year mortality will be close to average is (1) probably wrong; (2) not demonstrative of COVID not being a major issue. All cause mortality is way, way up in 2020, and you seem to be saying, “nah, it’s just a coincidental cyclical high” when it is demonstrably not that.

I can read a graph and correlate it with the existing pandemic that’s being reported on by literally every government and news outlet in the world. Can you not do that? You think a couple hundred thousand extra people died in the US from car accidents and heart disease this year? And that that spike just happens to be a global phenomenon NOT related to COVID?

You’re straying into “hoax” territory. Hell, I’d say you’re squarely in the “hoax” camp. Congratulations.

I'm waiting for the next Trump fan (not TSB) to chime in saying why all this data is still wrong or we're counting wrong. Seems like they've kinda given up that fight... maybe the reality that set in for most of us eight months ago has finally set in for most of them? Maybe the fact that it didn't just "go away" after the election was enough to show that it's not a hoax?
Pretty much every reputable infectious disease expert data analysis on covid has been fairly accurate.
Those hand picking and/or unable to interpret the data and numbers have tried and failed to create their own false narratives.

I went back and forth with a Knucklehead who could does not understand the numbers. He was wrong every step of the way. I was not right, I was just sharing what the experts were saying. They were right.

He has been silent on this since mid November but was posting like crazy from Apr - Oct.

We need to open up the vaccine to the general public. Get this going. Americans are too stupid to avoid prolonged close contact in closed spaces.

I don’t think Andrew Coumo agrees with this. It’s a shame some of the vaccines have to be thrown away due to be expired for not being used. This guy has really botched this pandemic on almost all metrics.

100M vaccinations in 100 days looks more than attainable. *fingers crossed* we can far exceed that. Normal life is on the horizon if we can be diligent, folks. Vaccinations combined with mask wearing, social distancing, and proper hygiene could really speed up that timeline.

Wife and I got first dose of Pfizer this morning walking up to KMC after getting on five different waiting lists in the past ten days. None of those had notified us, as of this morning, of an appointment date. Lucked out discovering KMC was not turning away people without appointments. Same day that Newsom partially reopens California. Now, if the covidiots and masskholes will decide to be grown-ups, perhaps this reopening will be successful.

That would be great!!!!
Actually not great and no challenge by the POTUS to improve the current rate of vaccinations.
The US, in implementing the vaccine roll out, is currently vaccinating 1 million persons a day.
I would hope that as the process continues, we can improve on it and increase the number of persons vaccinated

What I would like to understand and I've never seen the data, but the previous 4 or 5 years total deaths per year and the model for those years. It is my understanding and perhaps wrong that there are expected more deaths per year than the previous year. None of that is to imply that there were not more deaths than the model prediction for 2020 before the virus was known, but merely to get a better magnitude on the difference in all deaths to remove the politics and see the difference from the models (before for accuracy) to get a real feel for the extra deaths due to the virus.

Without that understanding, you might be able to get somewhat close by using actuary tables "IF" you knew the number of people in a given year of the population, but that data I think was for 2016 and not sure when the model was refined for the 2016 data...but better than just numbers
