Yale at Purdue: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and Happy Veterans Day with a heartfelt thank you to all of those who serve or have served our nation.

The Yale Bulldogs (1-1) visit Mackey Arena tonight to take on the #13-ranked Purdue Boilermakers (2-0) in a battle of two NCAA tournament teams from last season. Tip-off is set for approximately 8:00 pm (Eastern time). with television coverage on the Big Ten Network. This will be the fourth meeting between the schools. Purdue has won the previous three, including a 78-56 victory in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

Projected Starting Line-ups:

Yale - Nick Townsend, Samson Aletan, Yassine Gharram, John Poulakidas, and Bez Mbeng

Purdue - Trey Kaufman-Renn, Raleigh Burgess/Will Berg, Gicarri Harris, Fletcher Loyer, and Braden Smith

______________________________________

The Yale Bulldogs won their home opener over Quinnipiac, then went on the road against Illinois-Chicago and lost by 12, led by John Poulakidas with 21 points. Yale is expected to finish near the top of the Ivy League this season. They finished last season with a 23-10 record and pulled an upset in the NCAA Tournament by defeating Auburn in the First Round as a 13-seed in the East Region bracket.

Poulakidas is a 6'6 senior guard who is averaging 20 points per game on the season and has made six 3-pt FG's over his first two games. He has been a starter for Yale for the past two seasons and averaged at least 12 points per game in both years. Bez Mbeng is another senior scorer on the wing. He is a 6'4 senior who has averaged in double figures as both a sophomore and junior and is averaging 16.5 points to go with 6 assists and 5.5 rebounds this year. Nick Townsend adds size to the frontcourt, and he is a 6'7 solidly built junior forward getting 13 points and 5 rebounds per contest. Issac Celiscar is a freshman making an impact - a 6'6 forward getting 13 points and 7 rebounds per game.

James Jones has been the coach at Yale since 1999 and is the winningest coach in the program's history. KenPom currently has Yale ranked 113th, while also ranking 115th in offensive efficiency and 116th in defensive efficiency. They don't play particularly fast, ranking in the bottom half at 201st in pace of play.

Purdue is currently ranked 11th overall in KenPom. They are 8th in offensive efficiency and 26th in defensive efficiency. They are still playing slow, as they rank 308th in the nation in pace of play. Look for Fletcher Loyer to be a key target tonight for Yale's defense. Loyer has started out well with the outside shot and also has balanced that with some drives to the hoop. Braden Smith has focused primarily on being a facilitator, but you might see him emphasize his scoring a little more tonight, especially with Daniel Jacobsen's absence. Jacobsen is likely done for the season after suffering a fractured tibia early in Purdue's last game against Northern Kentucky. It will be up to Caleb Furst, Will Berg, and freshman Raleigh Burgess to pitch in to help Trey Kaufman-Renn in the paint.

Look for the Boilers to continue to vary the line-ups with newcomers Gicarri Harris, CJ Cox, joining Cam Heide and Myles Colvin in the rotations. Purdue has looked really good in flashes but has also struggled at times in both of their games. Turnovers have been an issue as well as the defensive glass, and with an experienced Yale team, they will get a good test. Yale has several veteran leaders, and all players familiar with their offensive and defensive strategy, as the program has not been heavily impacted by the transfer portal. Poulakidas and Mbeng are both in their senior season for Yale, and both have been double-digit scorers in each of the last two seasons. This means they were also on the NCAA Tournament team that upset the 4-seed Auburn Tigers last year., and I expect they will give Purdue a battle.

How will the Boilers respond? We shall see starting in about 90 minutes or so..........

Boiler Up, my friends.

As always, thx Tex. Shout out to all my fellow USAF vet buddies. Ready at the beach!

Is there a streaming link that isn't a virus? All the links on the official Purdue boards on Facebook are viruses.

I played over Braden 12.5 for some chump change tonight, they adjusted TKR to 14.5, the 11.5 last game was a gift, they weren’t in the giving mood tonight. They had at the time I played TKR and Fletcher at 14.5 and Braden at 12.5, think Smith goes off a little tonight, as for the game the game dropped from 16.5 early to 14.5 now, some sharps must have hammered Yale, I’m staying away.

1 hour free preview on Fox Sports Network. Might get me to halftime. Maybe I can switch from my TV to my laptop or the app for the second half

I want to watch the new kids play and see how this lineup shakes out. Haven't seen anything from the first two games yet other than replay highlights online

Did you not see the YT link that I replied to you with? Not the greatest stream (720p) and occasionally says something about some audio app not registered, but decent so far other than that..
