Purdue has ended up with either a short roster, or a long roster with limited available players who can contribute for many of the last 7 seasons. Since the 2012-13 season Purdue has had eleven recruits who started in the program but did not finish in the program. Nine of the eleven transferred to other programs with mixed results. Two of the eleven apparently played their last basketball at Purdue.
Two players from the 2012-13 class transferred and played for other programs. Taylor Manuel, a 6-2 post player was all MVC averaging 15 ppg for Loyola and then started at Mississippi as a graduate transfer and averaged 10 ppg. Joslyn Massey, a 6’ wing transferred to Central Florida and averaged 6 ppg and 7 rebounds. Three recruits from their class, Whitney Bays, a Maryland transfer and Hayden Hamby and April Wilson played with Bays and Wilson starting.

In the 2013-14 class there were only two recruits and Ashely Morrisette and Bridget Perry and both started and were major contributors.

The 2024-15 class was among Coach Versyp’s most heralded. Five recruits signed in that class and only one - Adreona Keys— finished at Purdue. PF Erica Moore transfered after one year to New Mexico and was on that team but saw little action. Bree Horricks was a starting post at Purdue and transferred to Vanderbilt where she saw little action. She was injury plagued. Highly rated guard Justine Hall transferred after one year to Oregon and saw limited action. Utah POY Haley Bodnar transfered after one year to BYU, got married, saw little action and completed her career at UNLV playing sparingly.

Another highly ranked class was in 2015-16 but Center Nora Keisler and walkon Abby Abel were the only ones to finish at Purdue and Keisler had to forego her last year due to concussion syndrome. The highly rated recruits, forward Dominique McBryde and guard Tiara Murphy both played and McBryde started her sophomore year and then transferred to Arizona where she is a starter and Murphy had grade problems and has not shown up on any rosters.

The 2016-17 class was once again highly regarded and both Ariana Harris and Dominique Oden have been major contributors and earned Big Ten recognition. Harris is a record breaking rebounder and shot blocker. Lamina Cooper, who started as a 2015-16 recruit had health problems but showed great promise but then left the program and is out of basketball. Miracle Gray transferred to Union University.

The 2017-18 class had four early signees. Tamara Farquhar has played and contributed, Leony Boudreau and Fatou Diagne have this far not played much and Dani Lawson, who verballed as a freshman in high school left after one year and sat out this year at Virginia. After Florida fired their coach Purdue landed Miss Basketball Karissa McLaughlin and she has been a star from the beginning earning First Team All Big Ten Honors as a sophomore.

The 2018-19 class had highly regarded PG Kayanna Traylor and she has played and shown great potential. Late in the season Texas Tech transfer Lyndsey Whilby had several good scoring games. Guard Cassidy Hardin, a long range shooter, struggled with her shot and post Nyagoa Gony, like Daigne from the previous class, is a project. A Pacifuc transfer, Jenelle Grant, a 6’ wing, sat out the year.

The 2019-20 class has two recruits. Highly ranked 6-2 PF Rickie Woltman will hopefully give some up front assistances to Harris. PG recruit Bria Harmon is not a scorer, but was pg on some very good teams in Atlanta and saw two two of her teammates go to high majors.

Far too many defections and some just plain recruiting misses on some players from far away have cost Purdue Wbb dearly the last seven seasons. Everybody has some or both problems, but few survive seven years with as consistent a pattern of player losses and recruiting mistakes.

Good post, Purdue needs to keep all of their players this offseason, even the ones that hardly played.

Well researched, Des. I guess we will have to see what transpires. The silence from the AD is deafening. Does anyone know if the NIT bids have gone out because this team definitely qualifies. Someone said they said they would decline? I think that would be strange as that could be a good experience for a team that is almost all coming back. I guess we will know something soon. Since Versyp is on contract, we may hear nothing from up top and just assume that she will be back next season. Most of the angst may just be fan created.

WNIT bids go out late Monday 3/18 after the NCAA bids are announced per their website.

Like you, I would be perplexed if Purdue did not accept. I think IU winning last year's WNIT was a boost for this year's IU team. And I would assume if we would play in the WNIT that any decision about coaching would hold until that participation was done.

On other board somebody said the decision was made not to play in the WNIT without consulting with the team. They went home in spring break and last year they stayed and practiced. Is the the gospel? No, but it is plausible.
