The bill does not remove voter ID requirements. Part of the bill puts back pre-clearance which is what the Supreme Court took out of the 1965 Voting Rights Act several years ago. This is where election officials would need permission from the DOJ to change any voting laws.

As far as blacks and voter ID, first of all this is kind of old news. After Obama won in 2008, voter suppression started out initially to disenfranchise black voters. Repub strategist found out that a lot of blacks in the major cities did not have a picture ID for one reason or another. So repubs made voter ID as a requirement even thought prior to the 2008 election having an ID was never an issue. Then they tried to remove Sunday voting that blacks enjoyed and called it "Souls to the Polls". Now move forward to the past few years and months. These voter suppression laws that over 40 states have already or on the books, the current voter suppression laws have expanded from blacks to disenfranchised basically everyone that wants to vote, mainly many folks that vote democrat. Removing drop boxes in major cities, Adding drop boxes to rural areas, eliminating drop boxes, reducing early voting, no food or water given to people standing in long lines to vote on and on. Now under the lie that the 2020 election was stolen these voter suppression laws have been put into high gear. The John Lewis Bill fixes all that crap.

You guys are fixated on voter ID's. There are more to the voter suppression laws than voter ID's.
Election officials can't change voting laws and the DoJ has nothing to do with it either. State Legislatures are the only ones, who can legally change any state voting laws, although a lot of tinkering occurred in the 2020 election.

When I see a law that specifically puts a requirement on a Black voter that's not already on a White voter, I will believe in disenfranchisement. Show me any laws that single out Black voters?

This whole thing about extending the voting period from ONE day to over a month in some states serves only one purpose and that is to cheat in elections. The longer the time, the more places people can vote illegally. Not having to show a picture ID makes it very easy.

I have been voting since 1966 and I have always been required to show an ID, so this is NOT something that the evil Republicans just came up with to disenfranchise Blacks.

Once again, the Dems are using Blacks as an excuse to weaken the integrity of the voting process and if you object, they call you a Racist. Rinse, Repeat...

Yes I meant state legislature change laws and that is what is going on in over 40 states. Prior to Shelby County vs Holder in 2013, the DOJ had a big role in voting. Up until 2013, the 1965 Voting Rights Act Section 5 had a pre-clearance rule where counties in the US, mostly in the south who had a history of voting racism had to get permission, pre-clearance, from the DOJ to change any voting laws. Remember blacks had to count the number jelly beans in a jar in some areas. However, in 2013 the Supreme Court case Shelby County vs Holder deemed Section 5 unconstitutional. The John Lewis Act, if passed would put that back with provisions that will make it constitutional. The Supreme Court taking away Section 5 of the 1965 Voting Rights Act open the doors of state legislatures to change laws willy nilly.

Even though, voter suppression laws started out disenfranchising blacks with voter ID several year ago after the Obama election. The current voter suppression laws have expanded and will disenfranchise all voters certainly democrats who mostly vote by mail, absentee, use drop boxes etc. The current suppression currently curtail those and other voting methods democrats enjoyed under the guise of the 2020 election was stolen. If Chump would have won, there would not have been any changes to these laws.

I too have been voting for a while since I was 18 in 1984. And I do remember showing ID when voting. However, throughout the country, in a lot of counties that is not case and never was an issue until 2008 when Obama won.

Frankly, I think all this voter suppression crap that is filling your head with paranoia is just being pushed by the Dems to make you believe they've got your back and all they're doing is manipulating you to keep voting for them.

The Dems make big promises to minorities every two years about a month or so, before the elections. Then they ignore you for the next 23 months. Any voting laws will be designed to increase their power, NOT yours. Stop listening to what they tell you and start paying attention to what they're actually doing for you.

You can take that advice or ignore it, that's up to you. I'd also listen to what the Reps have to say and then pay attention to what they actually do for you. Both sides make a lot of promises. Check out both sides and see, who keeps their promises.

Yeah they are racists. The three evening jokers Tucker, Hannity, and Ingrahm are racists. Jesse Watters is a racist. Greg Gutfeld is a racist. The judge chick is a racist. The entire network went to pot the day President Obama was sworn in.

Happy one week anniversary to this post!! Still too busy to find proof of any of this to be true??? You dumb, ain’t ya boy???

Quit making excuses that black people can’t figure out how to comply with voting laws. If voting is important to them, they’ll figure out how to do it, if it’s not, they won’t. Simple.

BNI and the other lazies would rather sit on their asses and wait on the government to do everything for them..

I see you are back calling me boy. It is sad that I associated myself with such racist people on this Purdue board.

I never said that blacks couldn't figure it out. Blacks have figured it out and adjusting to these laws. You are missing the point as usual. Why change these laws when there were no issues to begin with. These laws were changed to do no more than make it harder for people to vote.

Times change, rules change. You can either bitch and complain or you adapt.
Why would you not want our election process to be as secure as possible?
Why do you think it’s not important for someone to prove who they are when it comes to voting?
Should someone be required to show ID to fly on a plane? Why or why not?

It is secure. Didn't Chump's own cyber security chief say that this was the most secure election ever.

Read my recent posts about this. It is not just about voter ID anymore. You guys are fixated on that. They made more laws to make it harder to vote. Removing drop boxes, changes in mail in voting, absentee voting, Sunday voting. No food or drinks while in voting lines etc.

Which of these new voting regulations specifically says
“In order to make it more difficult for blacks to vote”
It seems to me that the only people these voting laws discriminate against are the lazy. (Regardless of skin color).

We’re all sadder that we’ve associated ourselves with you ya big dummy. Biden calls blacks people “boy” all the time!!

Do you think they are really going to say that? Does it have to be that obvious or is that just your excuse?

This isn't ABOUT racism to me. It's about making it harder for democrats to vote. Many of those happen to be people of color and middle or lower socioeconomic scale.

The argument is that the RESULTS of the effort to make it harder to vote affects the black community more and is therefore racist. It's not as simple as you want to make it but that makes your position easier to defend.

I think it's the wrong way to frame the argument and gives the right an out.

Changing state laws to allow legislatures to overturn results has nothing to do with election security.........and that's what is happening all over the country.

Fixed it for you.

From foreign interference...not local cheating.

No food or drinks while in voting lines etc.
This is just a lie. People representing candidates cannot distribute food or drink in lines...you could order a 7 course meal if you want as long as the waiter doesn't represent a candidate.

Man, you and I been through this so many times. I told that in 2008 after Obama won a lot of blacks, particularly elderly, in major cities did not have a picture ID. Then they got rid of Sunday voting that blacks enjoyed. A lot of blacks voted absentee. They reduced that. So that is how. After 2020, they expanded these laws and disenfranchised democratic voters white and black.

Personally I think you should only be able to vote in person, have a medical condition or be over 70 years of age. Early voting limited to just a few days and no late voting, all ballots must be received by closing of the polls.
Democrats like @BNIBoiler are lazy, man. They’d rather sit on their asses and complain then do something..

And again, you can sit here and cry and whine racism, or you can accept that there are new rules to abide by that you can’t do anything about no matter how much you complain.

Yeah they are racists. The three evening jokers Tucker, Hannity, and Ingrahm are racists. Jesse Watters is a racist. Greg Gutfeld is a racist. The judge chick is a racist. The entire network went to pot the day President Obama was sworn in.

During the weekdays they have Gumbo/Sambo Harris Faulkner who plays by the Faux News playbook. She upholds white supremacy on the network. Not a fan.
Any proof yet on any of this idiocy being true? You dumb, ain’t ya???

Anyone ever wonder why foxnews.com has links to CNN and MSNBC and articles about the other channel reporters tweets and vice versa?
These outlets are designed to piss people off drive divisiveness, which apparently drives viewership.

As I've said before, BNI sees racism in absolutely every situation. He doesn't really know what real racism is.
Hell, he's accused his son's high school basketball coach of not playing his boys because they're black.
