Because every coaching contract is guaranteed to some large extent in college football. You’re not going to hire ANY coach without heavy guarantees in the contract. Why would Purdue agree to a guaranteed contract and big buyout for a guy who didn’t have HC experience or not really in demand ?
It's obvious that Purdue does not have any good options, but the longer they wait to get rid of Walters the longer it will take to have a chance to restore their program to any semblance of respectability! I still question whether or not the Purdue Administration is committed to having a good football program. Hiring Walters certainly was an indication that all they really wanted was a warm body not someone who could bring them football success. One reason he stays, no options?
FSU and Auburn wondering too. Has to be a better way than quarantined money for bad resultsBecause every coaching contract is guaranteed to some large extent in college football. You’re not going to hire ANY coach without heavy guarantees in the contract.
The question should stop at why did we hire THAT guy and the answer seems to be that he was good in an interview.

I think that's a major part of the problem, why do many players now don't seem to play, and note that those are other "better" teams having similar problems. Why do they continue to play for other teams and make an effort? These are new times with new problems that must be addressed. But what is the actual root cause of this? And I think that early (lack of) performance of the top-ranked teams is part of this problem whereas their "lesser" opponents didn't have this problem at the beginning of the season.FSU and Auburn wondering too. Maybe so. Just trying to make some sense of the current situation. But, Purdue did just get a commitment from a Fort Wayne LB....The recruiting argument is lame. Our
How hard does anyone recruit knowing that they are leaving. Got to cut the cord now.My 2 cents (probably not worth that much)....
I'm not sure why you let him go during the season at this point.
We really don't have anyone to take over--this has been discussed over and over. Besides placating the vocal fanbase, it doesn't accomplish much else.
The bigger issue is that no one will be recruiting--at all. You at least have Walters beating the streets to a certain degree, keeping Purdue's name out there from a recruiting standpoint. (although he is also keeping Purdue's name out there in other bad record-setting ways). I think the artlcle about giving him more time that was released a couple of weeks back may have been some handwaving to keep recruits talking with him. Think about it....the athletic department seeds a story giving him a more time. It may keep some recruits engaged. At the end of the season, they can let him go without walking back a 'we support coach 100%'-type statement. At least, I haven't heard the athletic department making these type of overt statements.
If he is let go mid-season, how much does that show the next potential coach that the potential for knee-jerk type decisions could be made going forward?
As unfortunate that the situation is, I'm not really seeing a reason why the athletic department 'has' to let him go before the end of the season.
There is no rational other than an expectation that if he hasn't been fired by now they are going to keep him on for another season.Maybe so. Just trying to make some sense of the current situation. But, Purdue did just get a commitment from a Fort Wayne LB....
What rationales do you have, besides Purdue being cheap, for not letting him go mid-season?
They save 25% of his salary when he’s cut loose.Maybe so. Just trying to make some sense of the current situation. But, Purdue did just get a commitment from a Fort Wayne LB....

This just in from Purdue's Football Radio.... CRW is excited about playing OSU Saturday and the rest of the schedule.... Good grief!!Because every coaching contract is guaranteed to some large extent in college football. You’re not going to hire ANY coach without heavy guarantees in the contract.

He already knows we’ll lose out. Why not enjoy yourself as much as you can before your key card doesn’t work?

With this team a win should be worth way more. It’s almost impossible!I've offered this before. I'll take 100k per win. No guaranteed money. 2M dollar bonus for bowl season. We will play Playstation style basketball on grass and rarely punt. I will fund raise for NIL like I'm Mitch Daniels.
