Who finishes the season as interim?

Anybody can stand on the sideline and get the team to 1-11.

I don't know if anybody on the staff could win over the locker room or move recruiting forward under these circumstances.

walters will finish the season, and despite what all of you are hoping for may actually return next year. he almost beat Illinois and Northwestern. I have to believe he'll be given another year with a new offensive coordinator. rather than spending money to buy him out, Purdue needs that money for their NIL expenses.

Why would Purdue agree to a guaranteed contract and big buyout for a guy who didn’t have HC experience or not really in demand ?
Because every coaching contract is guaranteed to some large extent in college football. You’re not going to hire ANY coach without heavy guarantees in the contract.

The question should stop at why did we hire THAT guy and the answer seems to be that he was good in an interview.

One reason he stays, no options?
It's obvious that Purdue does not have any good options, but the longer they wait to get rid of Walters the longer it will take to have a chance to restore their program to any semblance of respectability! I still question whether or not the Purdue Administration is committed to having a good football program. Hiring Walters certainly was an indication that all they really wanted was a warm body not someone who could bring them football success.

FSU and Auburn wondering too. Has to be a better way than quarantined money for bad results

My 2 cents (probably not worth that much)....

I'm not sure why you let him go during the season at this point.

We really don't have anyone to take over--this has been discussed over and over. Besides placating the vocal fanbase, it doesn't accomplish much else.

The bigger issue is that no one will be recruiting--at all. You at least have Walters beating the streets to a certain degree, keeping Purdue's name out there from a recruiting standpoint. (although he is also keeping Purdue's name out there in other bad record-setting ways). I think the artlcle about giving him more time that was released a couple of weeks back may have been some handwaving to keep recruits talking with him. Think about it....the athletic department seeds a story giving him a more time. It may keep some recruits engaged. At the end of the season, they can let him go without walking back a 'we support coach 100%'-type statement. At least, I haven't heard the athletic department making these type of overt statements.

If he is let go mid-season, how much does that show the next potential coach that the potential for knee-jerk type decisions could be made going forward?

As unfortunate that the situation is, I'm not really seeing a reason why the athletic department 'has' to let him go before the end of the season.
