Who we would be competing with Vandy, NC ST, GT, KENTUCKY, and BC

Neutral/net positive firings PENN ST, ND, KENTUCKY, TEXAS.

PENN ST firing Franklin would probably make Vandy very happy. PSU shouldn't be competing with us for coaching hire unless they whiff a few times and have to settle (Tenn picking up Jones).

ND I have to think somebody maybe BC would love to hire Brian Kelly or even someone who is a much better spot which increases the quality of available coaches for Purdue. While ND may go after someone like Fleck, I just don't see them grabbing from the midmajors for a coach known to be a recruiter (ND recruits itself). I see them grabbing a strong Xs and Os coach with connections to other successful coaches.

LSU Many buzzing that Miles isn't going to sit and weight for the perfect situation, maybe a bigger school offers him a role or he goes to someone on our tier either way I think that points to him making the coaching pool for Bottom P5 Tier better.

Kentucky Stoops has been a hell of a recruiter who just hasn't been able to win at Kentucky (like every other coach there lol). I see him possibly making a lateral move.

FIU isn't in a P5 conference and Conference USA isn't as stable as the MAC, so that would almost be a step down in my opinion

I'm rooting for all of these teams just to be safe! LOL
I have another hot seat thread going, but you've given some more food for thought. Hadn't considered Auburn and NC State, or Vandy. Vandy seems to be making slow and steady progress, but could that could all fall apart in the SEC. I have Franklin off the hot seat now also.

The picture should be more clear in a few weeks. Some of these 3-4 or 4-3 teams will become bowl eligible, which will probably secure some jobs.

I think we'd beat out GT and BC more times than not. UK I'm wary of. We don't really have a distinct advantage over them in any particular area other than academics. Discounting historical W/L records because current status, AD support, and facilities are much more influential.

UK is currently sitting in second place in the SEC East, not sure why Stoops would be on the hot seat right now. That would seem to be pretty good for UK as they've long been the doormat of that division.

No one cares about the SEC east. UK is improving but not quite good enough and Stoops is getting paid lots of money. His firing is def a possibility especially if UK thinks they can get Brian Kelly or Les.

UK will soon be back to doormat status then. Top football coaches want to go to a school where football is #1, or at least close with basketball. At UK, football isn't even in the same hemisphere as basketball.

I don't think Franklin is on the the hot seat at all.
His seat is warm to say the least. Don't let the 4-2 record fool you he isn't doing that great of job (like a danny hope 6-6). He has lost to Pitt (that's probably pisses off the fanbase like ND losing to Purdue), beat temple by 1 td, got murdered by Michigan, barely beat a questionable Minnesota at home, and last weak is his best win against Maryland. If he should finish the season with 8 wins and keep his job, but if he loses badly to both OSU and Iowa and somehow loses to Purdue, Indiana, or Rutgers I could see them replacing him, especially if Strong or Kelly becomes available.

Feelings amongst the PSU community are split on Franklin. He's a tremendous recruiter but gets out-coached on game day. I think he stays if PSU finishes strong this season.
His recruiting has been stout. They're just young. I think next year they need to make a decent leap or the natives get restless. I think his in game adjustments have drawn a lot of fire but bringing in a new OC was a positive.

I honestly believe they're a year away. And I think the fan base gets it.

I don't think so either. Not at all.

He was kindof stuck with Hackenberg for the first two seasons, who while he was great, isn't a typical JF QB. This is the first season he's had his 'own' QB running his system. PSU will give him much more time, IMO. They are just this season back to a full compliment of scholies, and his recruiting is extreme top-tier.

If he is, then it sounds like B1G East coaches are going thru what coaches in the SEC have gone through. Can't beat or match Saban (or Urban, soon to be Harbaugh) > you gone! Little bit of unreasonable expectations.

they also have been dealing w/ injuries esp. at the LB position.

Its unreasonable if you are Maryland, but penn st should be up there competing with OSU and UM.

You do realized PSU is still barely recovering from one of the most catastrophic and damaging athletic/Administration scandals in the history of college sports, right?? They're lucky most of the sanctions were reduced or eliminated, or they could have been decimated for a decade+.

JF will be given all the time he needs, IMO.

Doeren @ NC State is not on the hot seat. He was a missed FG away from leading the ACC division that has Clemson, Louisville and FSU in it.

They are headed in a positive direction for sure. He's not getting fired anytime soon.

I actually think the coaching carousel won't be as active this year. Kentucky would be foolish to fire Stoops IMO. They are legitimately one of the worst jobs out there. I think they get less support from Admin than even our guys do. I think Herman ends up at Texas. I think our closest competition for a guy like Fleck comes from LSU....but they would prefer to hire somebody with a pedigree in P5 football.

I think things look good for us to get a Charlie Strong, Fleck or Greg Schiano.

You would think Baylor would factor in for a good coach but with the rapidly declining status of the BIG12 and all the stink still leftover from the scandals there (the stink being the admin that perpetuated this, not Briles) I think they will be hard up to get a good coach.

I too was wondering which teams we will be competing against? Obviously we should hope that these teams will win some games and that at the end of the season there aren't too many coaches that are fired.
