What happens to our program, if Walters does not end up getting let go this year?

Now we have to figure out our overtime strategy. Always something to do. Haha
With our defense, we won’t hold anyone out from scoring a touchdown, so we might as well go for a possible TD each time and the 2 point conversion and possibly get lucky. Not that we have to worry about that in our final few games.

Saints fired their HC this morning after losing seven in a row. I know it is NFL, but college football is professional now to a certain now with the NIL and TV contracts. Time for us to follow the Saints.

Hard to blame Walters too much here, if at all. He was offered the job and took it. As others have previously mentioned there should have been more oversight on how the staff was put together. It's painfully obvious Walters needed guidance. Walters now and has been in a situation in which he's learning on the job. Not ideal for a B1G football.

In addition to only 1 win this year, the team has noticeably regressed in every facet outside of maybe punting this year.

It was a head scratcher of a hire, but I was optimistic. However, you just can't let this level of ineptitude continue for a third year in today's P4 college football. Losing is one thing, but what's worse is losing the fan base.

With this big of a gamble, there certainly better have been an early exit strategy when the gamble failed.

Exactly. What if we had offered Walters the same salary with a buyout of $1 million instead of $9 million. Would he have turned it down to stay as a DC at Illinois?

Probably. Most agents are negotiating these buyouts big time because they know a job like Purdue is risky and success is not a guarantee.

You’d be hard pressed to find coaching contracts in the P4 that don’t have these massive guarantees

Game, set, match. I guess we do not have any skilled players.
Take out Klare, and I think that is rhetorical
I expect it’s rhetorical as we have some very skilled players just major problems with schematics. Thieneman is the perfect example of someone who has the ability to be first team all big ten but is out of position and underutilized due to schemes.

$9m after 2 years is a really low buyout and likely not a barrier in firing him. Especially the part about it not being lump sum and paid out over 3 years.

Once NCAA "profit sharing" takes over, recruiting will be much better for teams like Purdue.
More D & O line depth and a Mike Alstott like RB is all this team needs :).

To answer the question asked, if Purdue it's Alum's cannot pony up the NIL money for better skilled players in the portal and recruitment the Boilers will settle being in the middle eventually, hoping for an even record and a minor bowl. A BIG name winning coach and staff will also cost BIG bucks also. We have to bring in 30+ players via the portal and recruiting that can play NOW. A difficult task to say the least! Bottom line is we should have three wins instead of one, but players, coaches and refs cost Purdue the two extra wins.

Refs?

It’s coaching first. Players second.

We aren’t wildly talented but there’s no reason we couldn’t have won 4 games this year and competed in some of the others we didn’t.

You don't give FORT KNOX to someone who is unproven. ADs who do will have a much shorter career than they anticipated.

Nil is not the issue of we were still winning 4 games we could have this conversation. Winning 1 game against the fcs and getting blown out by any team with a pulse isn't an NIL issue. We have a bad MAC coach getting paid P4 money.

Just watched 5 minutes of CRWs pre-PSU presser, and at one point he was asked what’s he’s learned through a rough season and he made up some BS and then finished with “and that’s what I’m going to take into next year.” The entire media just went silent, like 30-45 seconds of dead air, this is just absurd at this point.

I think he’s already been promised next year.

Becoming the head coach of Alabama has its risks.........

Funny you mentioned this. I listened to that and was stunned. Bunch of garbage. How did this guy con Bobinski so bad? He sold us a bag of air.

We have 17 players doing Senior Day festivities. 3 of the 17 are redshirt juniors.

I hope having 3 redshirt juniors doesn’t indicate that we are dumb enough to keep Walters with us being one of the worst P4 teams, if not the worst.
