From my little non-cable TV man- cave, I just viewed an innocuous little local commercial about a car dealership. Its theme was "whatever your colors, we have a car for you", or some such bilge. Of course, being in Northern Indiana, they showed a ND-clad lassie...followed by an IU donned one...followed by (are you ready?) Spartan Green and White. As usual no mention or sight of a Boiler. Being a conservative, rural school teacher, I am no elitist, but I ask you, What do people in Northern Indiana have to feel so smug about??? Of course, I have long realized Purdue is 3rd running in this 3 team race, but we have far more in common with the rank and file of the state than the ND snobs ( even Dakich referred to their fans as being arrogant New Yorkers!). Or, for that matter, more in common with IU's hills and Breaking Away crowd of "Sensitive Artists". Sure, the latter (including IU's own Ernie Pyle) do our state proud, but for all of you fellow Purdue grads, I urge you to take no guff from these turncoats. As a fellow alum, I respect (oh, how I respect all of you Science and Engineer grads who are making your mark!) all of you. With our technology and Ag leading the way, we are THE Indiana University, despite the one with "The State Name" and despite the "Ivy-letist" school in SB. I have several northern Indiana farm boys as close friends...and they are IU fans. I just don't get it. When they wave that "championship banner" business in my face, I tell them the truth: We had one before you did (1932). We were also Big 10 champs the year you won your first, and you went in our stead.
Never surrender, Boilers! Analogous to tiny Israel, the world will know us before it is all said and done! As a Christian and proud Boiler grad, may I reiterate, BTHU!!!!
