I wonder how you would feel if you lived in a country invaded by a superior force. Sounds like you'd just give up and submit to be ruled by a socialist, murdering dictator. You'd give up your right to free speech willingly. Every day, worrying about saying something the government considers a threat to the state. Going to sleep wondering if you'll awake to the secret police dragging you out of bed and off to a rehabilitation camp. Your sons conscripted to go fight in a war where you are shot if you retreat. Living on the edge of poverty.
But hey, why fight to save your democracy when you might die doing so? Better to be alive living in a corrupt authoritarian regime with few rights than risk death fighting for freedom. Patrick Henry would disagree.
