update on portal

It’s too late now for the portal unless we’re looking at April. HS kids will be basically of no use as freshmen in the interior. Hopefully, the G5 kids will play up, although we could feel a lot better about it if they were using the same offense. Guess we’ll see… 🤷‍♂️
I thought it’s only too late to enter but once kids are in they can commit to a school whenever. Regardless I’m sure he’s not done with the portal and will pick kids up later on too.

I watched as many clips of games that I could find on Walkey, the ki from BYU.
A sure tackler with good ball skills that takes good angles!!!
I checked out his profile and it says he originally committed to Utah St in 2018.
He’s def going to be the oldest player on the team.

Says he’s “expected” so maybe he has to wait? Might be the new loophole. “Hey coach! I’ll be there when it opens back up. Come get me.”

They haven't perfected that part of the portal technology, yet...... :)

We probably win our first two games. I'm guessing we can win one more.

It's not an easy schedule but it's way easier than the last two seasons.
Rutgers? Home game so we (probably) have a shot. Don’t like our chances in any other games, though…

I mean we had a shot to win two games this season. And this was the worst team in the modern era.

We weren't far from 3 wins this season so I don't think 3 wins next season against an easier schedule is crazy talk. Much more than that shouldn't be expected.

They should really buy out the ND game and schedule an easy win. This program needs some success, not to go to South Bend and get throttled by 45 pts.

Ideally they start 2-0 so losing to ND won't necessarily be as bad this year but yeah I agree that until this team reaches at least mediocrity, we need 3 guaranteed wins every preconference. That means only 3 conference wins to make a bowl.

Making a bowl means "success" in the eyes of better recruits, it means extra practice time for younger players and it's how you step up to attracting better players, increasing fans and money for more NIL to graduate to 8-9 win seasons.

You don't get there winning 4-5 games max but hey you had a lot of top competition in RA. This isn't basketball.

No that is what IU does. Play some teams with a pulse. I rather face giants and have fun games than play high-school teams like IU. ND is going to get curb stomped by OSU. Over inflated and will get humiliated AGAIN in a national championship game.

You can increase the SOS once you've built the winning culture of the program. This program is in complete rebuild mode from the depths of hell. No sense in getting thrown to the wolves.
And no, ND will not get spanked by OSU. NDs D will keep them in the game and the O just needs to make enough plays like they did vs PSU. Go Irish!

Really your going to pick out the worst season in program history. I loved rushing the field against Michigan state. I loved rushing the field against Ohio state. There is a reason we are known as the spoilermakers.

High-school blow outs are reserved for Friday night
Do you know how many times we’ve won since the turn of the millennium? Three.
And the number of wins in the 15 years before that? Two.

40 years.
5 wins.

It’s long past time to get them off of our schedule…

Yes the ND game was certainly fun this year. So was losing all but one game.

So you'd trade off a solid program so once a decade you can rush the field?

I think Joe tiller was 5-6 against them. It’s been crappy since then but we did have 3 losses that were within a score that were fun and some they were closer than their score shows. Most of those games were in seasons that were duds so it’s hard to look back at just the ND game and be upset. This is the first year I remember strong opposition to having them on our schedule and I feel like a lot of that is reactionary to IU and their schedule. I like the schedule where we do ND every year alternating away games when we have the extra home big ten games and then “buying” two home games. That ensures 7 home games every year and 2 warmups.

I wouldn’t have minded not playing Oregon state this year, Syracuse in past years, Virginia tech, etc.

We were 3-1 against Notre Dame in my years at Purdue 1962-1965, and one of the reasons I hate them is that they would always be higher ranked, but that really has more to do with the rankers who would always over-rank them. But for me, that was the main game of the year. I would love to have another coach with Mollenkopf's success. Keep them on the schedule and beat them!

Rankers have always been wankers when it comes to ND.
