I am a bit surprised that Painter is surprised turnovers are up this year.
Anytime you throw it into the post a lot..... there is an increased risk of turnovers. In addition neither Haas or Hammons are dynamic passers or ball handlers. So if they are handling the ball often there is increased risk of turnovers (albeit AJH significantly reduced his turnovers in conference play).
Obviously we need to get the ball inside. I just wonder if we wouldn't be better off not forcing so many passes to the post
As good as our defense has been, we might be better off just running motion offense and emphasize making only simple post passes, and only pass it when Haas/Hammons are in position to turn and shoot. Painter did a great job this year and AJH has improved dramatically....so this has gone from a major quibble....to a minor one for me.
Just not sure you can advance very far in upcoming tournaments if you turn the ball over 15-20 times.
Now certainly there are a certain % of turnovers completed unrelated to post play. Just seems like there is some low hanging fruit to be had with simplifying the rules on when to pass it into the post.
