Trent Sisley to iu

It's an interesting point. Right now, as much as I hate to admit it, if my son were a D-1 football recruit and was choosing between IU and Purdue, IU would have the better coach in terms of development and winning right now.

I think the opposite is true in basketball. But kids that grow up in the south part of Indiana are going to grow up being bombarded by IU basketball propaganda even if they have done very little as of late. I'd like to think I'd be rational if trying to help my own kid pick the best program to play for even though I went to one school and have been a fan of them ever since. But it seems like many parents don't dig that deep.

Sisley may do well at IU. He's certainly skilled enough. But I'm not sure I've seen Woodson demonstrate development of a player at his position with his skillset though. Other than TJD and JHS I don't think he's done great with any other players he's had. Woodson comes from the NBA and he seems to do better when he has a player with NBA talent that he can just give them the ball and let them work. Painter is great at featuring the top talent in his offense too but he does much better coaching the rest of the players to play off those mismatches.

Oh no, I’m saying it plays a huge factor. If NIL wasn’t a thing, IU certainly would not get a majority of the players they have. The kids should get paid but don’t act like these they are going to IU just because it’s IU or because of Woody. They haven’t seen IU be that successful in their lifetimes.
Iu has always recruited well..

They bought all those transfers. Maybe 1-2 would have gone to IU if they didn’t get that $$$. But you keep tellin yourself all those kids were chompin at the bit to go to IU once the portal opened!

I think what is lost in all of this losing a recruit to IU is that we are stacked with talent at all five positions for the next two seasons. It’s hard to bring in any recruit when the minutes look like they will be hard to come by.

Who sits so Sisley can play? Senior TKR? Junior Heide? Sophomore Burgess? If he wants to play the 3, we will have juniors Colvin and Heide as well as sophomore Harris.

I just don’t see how minutes would be available and we as fans should be excited that the team we already have is stacked so deep with talent.

💯

This.

The top recruits want to play right away and we don’t really have that option right now unless the recruit is really good and able to be better than a more experienced player and we have seen that the schemes take a bit to learn. Heide talked a lot about it in his interview from the first practice.

Catchings sort of proves your point. He is an outstanding talent, but wasn't starting from day one as there is a LOT of outstanding talent in front of him that also has experience that he doesn't have.

Exactly. I think Catchings and Haralson could have eventually started/played 20-25 mins. But what Purdue runs, there’s a lot to learn and know. UConn runs complex offense too.

I personally fell off the Sisley train. We need more athletic Purdue fits. I wish him well. The thing I want to point out is that unless you're a five-star IMO there cannot be a recruiting miss. It's just delayed how many Sisley's will be in the transfer portal next year? Or for the 3 years after that. Tre Singleton is another story he has been at the top of the list for me. Yes, ahead of Mullins and Harelson and anyone else we have offered. IMO he is a next level player who fits at Purdue. No other player in 2025 matters for me it's Singleton or bust.

This might have been posted? From UOfL board one of his favs, if not #1.

Given where he played his first 3 years in high school, it was going to be hard to pull him out of southern Indiana imo. Of course, I think he would have been better off playing for Painter but oh well.

He’s a good player and maybe it’ll pan out for him. Or maybe woody (if not fired), will just recruit over him and not develop him and then he hits the portal.

Hope it’s not the latter for him.

Good video! This is a player I would hate to lose. I just feel he fits Purdue. I have watched a hand full of games he NEVER takes a play-off NEVER. I am hearing the same Louisville #1 and Purdue #2 so Paint has work to do. The fact he has yet to commit means we are very much in the hunt.

Still has a few more visits left, I think? ND and Xavier…maybe Clemson?

Yes you’re right! In the last decade, IU has had higher recruiting classes all except one year when compared to Purdue.

In that timespan, Purdue is 15-4 vs IU.
Because they recruit based on stars and sometimes fans look at star rated players vs players that fit the system.

This has been proven by Paint and how he constructs a team of unity.

Trent isn't/wasn't a must for Purdue. I don't believe any player is a "must-get". We know that recruiting is a very fluid process and players have different ideas of how they should be utilized.

Painter continues to win, recruit based on utilization and timing. Not to many coaches can say the same. This is exactly why so many analysts believe he's at the top of his game vs. being a top recruiter of star rated players. He makes them star rated.

For sure…and with the transfer portal every year, it’s not as crucial to get those recruits. Still you would like them but you still have an opportunity to get more established players if you miss out.

Didn't think he was coming here when he went the prep school route. I believe the good players we got from prep schools were committed to us prior to them going there.

Will be interesting to see if Woodson can develop him....or a good team with him.
There's only one ball to go around. Some of these players were potentially 1st/2nd rounders coming-in to IU.

I'm assuming Trent was told Mgbako will be gone but they will recruit over him because they can't play an offense that is structured to help players get a shot off vs. One-on-one.

He's not an over athletic player but needs an offense that is structured for him to get shots off. Time will tell but Woody's offense isn't geared that way.

💯.

I still like getting those in-state kids for future recruiting. It's not as crucial as it was in the past but always nice...imo
Oh yeah for sure….maybe they’ll come home. Sometime you gotta let them make a decision on their own for them to realize their mistakes 😂

Mack needs to drastically improve his defense and explosiveness. He was too slow to guard the 3 and too small to guard the 4 last year. And he didn’t really blow by ppl.

I’m shocked they still have him as high as they do in mocks. Maybe he will make that jump, but wouldn’t surprise me if he’s back again.
