…to show that he belongs in the upper tier of coaches. If there is ever a time for Coach Painter to show Purdue fans and America that he belongs in that discussion, it is now. Year 17 and he has won 3 Big Ten titles (one more than Tom Crean) and been to one elite 8. This team is clearly loaded with talent, but you can’t help but feel massively disappointed right now. It’s almost like watching the Marvin Lewis era in Cincinnati. Good teams that made the playoffs and won a few division titles, but could never get over the hump.
For the record, I do think Painter is a good coach and I am a big fan of his/his approach. But this team has too much talent to fizzle out in March.
