Despite the year of experience for all but CE...this team is not as good as last year's squad.

1. Interior defense is not as good...the graduation of Hammons means rim is not protected. Yes...Haas is 7' 2"...but he fails to even alter shots...let alone block them. Didn't CE dunk over him in preseason. Jump man...jump. You must get off your lead feet.

2. None of our experienced guards...Mathias...Cline...Thompson are athletic or quick or can create their own shot or take you off the dribble. And can not defend this type of guard either. First...Nova star guard...then Mason...now Jok on the road. How will Purdue do against Abrams and Hill coming up next? If the game were in Champaign...the Illini would win.

3. CE can do #2 above...but he makes freshman mistakes...and at times does not make intelligent shot decisions.

4. Painter does not learn from his mistakes. He refuses to play zone in parts of the game to change up defenses. His ceiling is the sweet 16...once a decade. You must ask yourself "are you satisified with these results" I am not. We need a new coach. Where oh where...are you Cuonzo?

Curious how our guards are quicker, more athletic, and create their own shots at home but not away? Your implication seems to suggest they get more athletic when they walk in Mackey.

This team is absolutely better than last year's team overall. Are there areas they aren't? Sure. But this team will perform better in the conference and the tourney. Bank it.

I might be persuaded to believe that they are better offensively, but no way that they are better defensively, and last year was not a stout defensive team by any means either...it simply had an incredible defender that erased mistakes by everyone else more often than not...no way I am going to be persuaded that this team is absolutely going to perform better in the conference or tourney though...fool me once, shame on you...fool me again, shame on me...I am not buying it until I actually see it happen, and thus far, it has not happened and there are no signs at all that it will.

Of course we're not. We lost two DPOYs. But the improvements we've made offensively, particularly in 3 pt shooting are significant. CE is a huge boost in athleticism. DM and RC are very much improved. And CS is probably a conensus AA. CS's improvement by itself is probably enough to say the team is better overall.

Yeah I still like this team more than last year. Thought we'd go on a roll to start Big10 season but NOOOOO. Still it's early. Now all I friggin care about is winning the Big10 tourney and staying hot in March. Watching Purdue second week of tourney, yeah that would be cool and enough for me after watching this team for awhile.

Agree with pretty much all that op, this team is still a fairly young team. I think that this team has the potential to bring down better teams if that makes sense . Still going through the same old though. I don't see this a final 4 team could be wrong. Not because they aren't good enough , it's the inconsistency

When you are inconsistent, you should already be considered as "not good enough"

If nothing else, I want to beat Queen so bad that he cries. Twice...
Should the team come in a disappointing 3rd or 4th in the league, perform mediocre in the BIG10 tourney, and have a first weekend exit from the NCAA tourney, this right here will help salve the wounds of a season of missed expectations.

You may possibly be Nostradamus because that is about where I see is ending up

that would be disappointing to see the program regress already, just 3 years removed from last place.

im hopeful that this team, led by a player of the year candidate, can still finish higher in conference play (4 seed) and win some games in the tourney this year.
