Miami makes a run down 13 in second half to pull even and win the game. Coach saves two time-outs for the locker room.
Elite and Sr. We never had a chance as we didn’t have either. I’m not out on Loyer and Smith but as Freshmen, they did plenty IMO. Was clear they hit a wall.Whereas they won the last game with several 3s.....It should be noted that Miami won via the 2 pt shot and the resultant 28 foul shots created. Only 2 threes. Guards & wings creating havoc. Lots of ways to win games. But elite guards/wings essential.
They're going to need some help, but they showed great promise earlier in the year. I think they'll both be very good. Hopefully Heide, Catchings, and incoming recruits can provide any of the athleticism they lack going forward.Elite and Sr. We never had a chance as we didn’t have either. Purdue exceeded the expectations of many because the 1 & 2 were much better than what people thought Purdue had...better than the year before. Zach improved as well. Those are the three spots that led Purdue this year. Others had games here and there, but not quite the payload of the 1,2 &5. People are saying Purdue needs this and that, and I don't even know who if any are leaving. Purdue brings in two athletes next year that we hope are solid contributors, but I really don't know anything about Heide other than he can really dunk. Myles can dunk as well, but has also shown he can shoot the ball. Neither has played in college and at that high level they will see. Does anyone know how Heide did this year in practice...from a legitimate source. Purdue needs a good 3 and if that is answered by an improved Brandon, if he stays or Camden of Myles...great! Need some people to actually shoot that thang. Speaking of shoot that thang...ya know if Nojel played this last year Purdue wouldn't have lost to IU I don't believe...and probably wouldn't have hurt the shooting stats much...Elite and Sr. We never had a chance as we didn’t have either. You sure ask a lot of questions. So Texas “lost” their coach yet still make it to the elite 8 with an assistant. What does that tell you about the coach, what does that tell you about “system”, what does that tell you about talent on the roster, and what does that tell you about peaking at the right time?

Purdue loses far too many large leads for my nerves can take.Oh yeah, Purdue is the only team that loses 13 point leads...

Agree w most of this except for "Morton is in no way a bad player." He is in many ways a bad player.Yes, after watching TX & Miami, Purdue needs a ton more athletiscm. Hope Heide or Newman works out @ the 3 like you say & Colvin takes over @ the 2.
I say this as, Purdue needs a more dynamic 2 to start over Loyer. Loyer is very good, but the 2 needs to be our alpha scorer capable of creating his own shot, capable of getting by people, scoring through people at the rim. Although a good player, I have never thought of Loyer as such a player. Not close. Hopefully, Colvin is such a player.
Loyer would be great as the backup 1/2 where he would get a ton of minutes providing what he did this year, but hopefully stronger.
Smith is fine and is dynamic enough @ the 1.
Morton is in no way a bad player, but is never going to be a guy to help Purdue to the next level. Just not athletic at all, with marginal handle. He is what he is. His role needs to shrink immensely.
So, I understand a look towards a 2...or a 3...not much different and can understand a player as a combo 1-2 . Braden can move to the 2, if Purdue got another Braden. That is where Matt wanted to be anyway a few years ago...two 1s that can score. It is a second player that I have no feel, just due to the 3 being a soft spot last year and not sure of Brandon/Myles/Heide and what they bring. I don't know where Brian W. will be either. The coaching staff should have a great feel for Heide and probably have seen Myles more than any of us to have an idea on him. See we are all guessing with so many unknowns. When constructing a team...how does anyone know what is needed until you know what is there?Yes, after watching TX & Miami, Purdue needs a ton more athletiscm. Until we know what Zach is doing, it’s really hard to know what moves to make, other than we generally need more dynamic offense at the 2-4 spots. So, I understand a look towards a 2...or a 3...not much different and can understand a player as a combo 1-2 . If I have time I want to see the 3pt shooting of all the 1s that got beat. I expect they shot a lot and missed a lot. Other teams that advanced may have a lot more game in the mid-range...which makes sense to me since everyone wants to defend at the rim and arc. Every team can use athletes and Purdue has evolved into getting some of those just as Purdue evolved into low post players which has taken Purdue to #1 the last two years and so low post players have been very important in Purdue elevating Purdue and getting a lot of attention. Matt needed to do what he did and getting good 5s that many did not want that much helped make Purdue a name. Every player and every coach understand a bad game here and there and so you "hope" recruiting doesn't take a hit...which I don't think it will. You casually watch the teams remaining and you can see the refs don't begin to call carrying the ball. I mean "SOME" are very, very obvious and so the refs let the athletic move go...just like they allow traveling on the "spin" move. Anyway, lot of questions I have in a lot of areas
If Trey/Caleb work on shooting (facing the basket) and dribbling two or three dribbles to move the ball and a couple more if going to a jump hook sometimes, I think the 4 &5 will be okay if Zach leaves. We want to believe that Myles and Camden will make the 3 a contributor...but many players are best until their first game. How quick are Myles and Camden? If Zach leaves I look for more up and down the court playUntil we know what Zach is doing, it’s really hard to know what moves to make, other than we generally need more dynamic offense at the 2-4 spots.
We never got a 13 point lead to lose. Mighty FD controlled the game.Oh yeah, Purdue is the only team that loses 13 point leads...
Purdue got a 6 point lead that they quickly pissed away in the second half, looked good for all of 20 seconds lolWe never got a 13 point lead to lose. Mighty FD controlled the game.
There’s been way too many times Purdue will go through 4-5 minute stretches where they won’t score. Been like this for several years and how they lose these leads all the time.Purdue got a 6 point lead that they quickly pissed away in the second half, looked good for all of 20 seconds lol
Deadly from the charity stripe as well.Miami was horrible from three vs Texas but shot well over 50% overall. Midrange and scoring near the hoop,
Yep, guards and wings that can get to the hoop. Works wonders when the 3 isn't going.Miami was horrible from three vs Texas but shot well over 50% overall. Midrange and scoring near the hoop,
in today's game a 13 pt lead w/ 8 and a 1/2 ,im to go is nothing, Texas in the last 10 min was just standing around on O and made some careless passesMiami was horrible from three vs Texas but shot well over 50% overall. Midrange and scoring near the hoop,
Zach goes or Zach stays...still same needs. Perimeter players than can knock down open looks. And, at least one player that can create off the dribble, get to the rim and 1) finish and/or draw fouls or 2) drop dimes.Until we know what Zach is doing, it’s really hard to know what moves to make, other than we generally need more dynamic offense at the 2-4 spots.
Yes, good post, Edey staying has an affect on the frontcourt, however, Purdue needs an athletic 2 that can play some point as well.Zach goes or Zach stays...still same needs.
