Texas A&M Corpus Christi at Purdue: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

No question about that with the turnovers - six, and he owned up to it after the game in the press conference, basically saying "he has to be better.....15 assists doesn't matter much when you do that....."

Hopefully, we see more of the last part of that game regarding decision-making......

He and TKR had 10 of Purdue's turnovers.....most of those just lack of focus. Certainly have to improve on that. We'll see come Friday.....
I love the kid. Been singing his praises since we signed him. You have to have high expectations or you'll settle for mediocrity.
From last night: Does everyone realize that Braden Smith has more assists in his first 2 seasons than anyone in Big 10 HISTORY not named Earvin (Magic) Johnson?
Edit: Appreciate him while you can. A few more 15 assist nights and 30 pt games and we might be seeing the last year of Braden.

Disgree. Furst has had 4 years, where as Berg has not played many minutes to even get going. At this point Furst can be used for his Christmas elf experiences. Those are funny. So many people want to count someone out that hasn't been given much time on the court and think Furst who has had 4 years, needs more minutes. Doesn't make sense. Anyway, Berg may not pan out to be what some think he could be, but we need to allow him some time.
Furst knows the system better and as we speak, can probably provide more, even if it doesn't show up on the stat sheet. Just being a senior leader on the floor and being willing to do a lot of small things.

Yes, and if it hasn't happened by Big 10 time I reckon Caleb will be in the rotation because the coaches already know what they have (and don't have) with Caleb. As noted they need to learn that about Will. He's got some attributes and you can't teach his size. I worry about his reaction times, same as DJ (who already looked quicker last night). Game needs to slow down for them. TIME and results against opponents will determine.

Very few here value the defense and picks and learned experience part of the game like coaches do.

I don't know what kind of med school Butler has but IU and IU Indy have good med schools. I mean he really could have went anywhere. He could have stayed in the B1G and went to like Northwestern. And there isn't an argument of Purdue over Northwestern when it comes to academics.
I love when people think they know better than a young man what they should or shouldn't do.

I have to agree with you Whiplash. Jacobsen certainly has potential, but have you seen what awaits him in B10 play? Goodness. Several teams have the whole "twin towers" mojo going. Not saying these guys are all world beaters, but there are some formidable matchups on the horizon.

Michigan... Golden and Wolf starting together. Golden was quiet last night, but Wolf was phenomenal with 19/13. Tschetter was aggressive and productive off the bench.
Maryland... Reese and Queen both start. We know what Ju Ju can do, but Queen just went for 20/20 last night. Super impressive frosh.
Illinois... Ivisic and Humrichous. Ivisic was granted eligibility just recently, and that just might put Illinois in position for a B10 title. Ivisic went for 14/14 last night. Humrichous will be a solid contributor all year. Both can shoot from range and pass.
Wisconsin... Winter and Crowl are both proven, physical players. Crowl had a quiet night, but he's a 5th year veteran who will have his moments.
Michigan State... Booker and Zapala start with two very physical reserves coming off the bench in Cooper and Kohler. More quantity than quality here, but teams like MSU might wear on Jacobsen.

The list goes on. No doubt our bigs need to get settled into their roles quickly, because it isn't getting any e

I want somebody that can give us something on the floor though. You can provide leadership even when you are not playing.

He can do what he wants. But a girlfriend and med school isn't an excuse when you can still have both plus playing. If he doesn't care about playing time, then I'd question his passion for the game.

Hilarious to see an indinia fan trying to tell a PURDUE player what is and isn't important. I am sure Furst is really dreading you "questioning" his passion for the game.

You know he also might also just really like Purdue.

I think you need to be seeing the floor for younger/other guys to take you "seriously". You can have leadership qualities but you still "usually" have to prove you deserve to be heard with your play. JMO

Furst is pre-med and has been dating a women’s volleyball player for a couple of years. Some things are more important than transferring just to get more minutes.
Oh, I hear you. I mean in the context of if he wanted to maximize his productivity and career as a basketball player, then he should have transferred.

In the grand scheme of things, yes, I agree.

Tough to be behind Zach for all those years. Sometimes, if the opportunity isn't there, it's hard to develop.
And Caleb is really an old time center that's had to play 4 because of Zach. He's never had the outside shot but spent a lot of time working on it instead of his post moves. If he'd been able to play 5 his whole career he'd likely be a decent rotation player even if undersized. Still can be.
Anyone that thinks it's too late if you haven't done it before must not have been around for the Keady ear.
Lots of guys that came "out of their shell" and had SR seasons that nobody could have predicted (except the coaches)
Often undersized guys playing a position bigger than their size.

Or he could have stayed at Purdue and worked on getting a degree from a prestigious university.
Of course. Furst had good options either way, but there are also plenty of other prestigious -- and, yes, more prestigious universities than Purdue -- he could have also played more minutes at.

But, again, basketball and the college you attend are very small parts of life and the overall human experience.

He seems like a good kid and I wish him well on his journey in life.

It was the same under Knight. It was pretty normal for dudes to breakout their junior and/sr year. Because there was normally someone ahead of them. I figured Jacobsen would start, but Furst getting 2 minutes while Berg gets 8, and is a -5 in those 8... That doesn't make sense to me. Furst at this point makes for a perfect veteran backup. He's going to do what he's supposed to. He isn't going to demand the ball. He can shoot about 30% from 3. Hustle. I would have given him all 8 of Bergs minutes without hesitation.

Holy mangled grammar, Batman…

The fact he's still there while a dude he's better than is getting more pt. And if "well my gf and degree, so it's okay" is the reason, I don't think he cares all that much about actually playing the game.
Just stop. Go jump on the backs of your own players and stop stirring shit here.

Good thing you're not the coach. Plenty of arm-chair coaching you can do for your own team. Leave ours to us.

Butler doesn't have a med school. That would have been a step down in every way. IU's med school is in Indy. They don't have a duplicate med school in Bloomington.

Questioning his passion for basketball because he wants to be close to someone who may be his future wife is odd. BTW, RMK could have gotten a lot more playing time if he had transferred to a lesser program. Matt Painter would have, as well. Would you question their passion for the game?
