Tennessee v. Purdue Game Thread (Battle 4 Atlantis - Bahamas)

This Purdue team has a long way to go to compete with the big boys from what I’ve seen so far this 1st half. Rebounding, or the lack of is going to keep this team from winning the key games in this pre-season and in the B1G. If Purdue does not solve this rebounding problem, they ain’t getting past the NCAA Sweet Sixteen game again.

We always struggle with teams that have athletic backcourt and wings. Last year with Louisville, Minnesota, KU. The year before with UALR. VCU several years ago in March. This game we are struggling to get rebounds with their athletic frontcourt. And Tennessee is not even playing good - shooting 33%.

And I know I'm going to be called a troll for saying that but I'm just being realistic that's the only way I know how to be

No you're not. You're giving up the season when we are tied at halftime of our fifth game of the season. That is by no means realistic. It's stupidity. Win or lose this game by itself will not define an entire season.

Tennessee playing really physical, a lot of fouls not getting called. Haarms is getting assaulted under the basket and is going to have a nasty black eye tomorrow.

This is a tough matchup with our bigs because Haas doesn't have the range to chase rebounds but he can hold up better underneath than Haarms. Painter will adjust and we'll win by 10. This would be a perfect game to have Caleb, but we'll be okay.

Someone say something to make me feel better here...boys.....

Vincent Edwards is struggling.....if he gets his act together and Dakota Mathias can provide support....I think the offense will be better. Need a gang mentality and "all hands-on-deck" for the defensive rebounding. The game is right there...but it's going to remain a battle all the way, IMO.

Matt Haarms is the only Purdue player with two fouls.....so that's good.

Purdue played poorly in the first half...at least poorly up to what Purdue has played mostly this season.

Shooting %: 40.7%
3 Point %: 38.5%
Rebounds: Tennessee: 11 offensive rebounds 23 overall
Purdue: 4 Offensive 17 overall
7 TO's

Again, poor play coupled with good play allows teams that shouldn't hang around...hang around longer than they should. Once again had an 11 point lead that was erased at the end of the first half instead of being able to extend the lead.

Edwards and Edwards shooting poorly and overall 4-14 combined. Granted Boogie has 10 points but he has taken 8 shots to get there overall. Most of his shots can be had at any point in the shot clock instead of rushing them at times.

Purdue clearly the better team BUT need to perform like the better team. Hopefully just some adjustment to the new court setting and being on break is needed only in the first half!

Feel like the 3 percentage is higher when we play inside out instead of just pulling up. And we have butter fingers. Better play serious in the 2nd half. We should be blowing this team out of the building.

That is what I think is killing us, there are a lot of rebounds that are just falling out of our hands. Grab the ball and we are in much better shape.

There is the obligatory....loose ball given up....immediate three. Glad, they got that out of the way early in the half. smh

That black eye was thank to one....Pajamas Thompson

Purdue is getting outplayed....hands down. No other way to put a 16-0 that spans the first to second half when at one point your lead was 11 in the first half.

Yep. A lot of hype will go a long way, but need to earn it all season. This hopefully will be a wake up call as this team has a ton of potential, but they have to play up to it, it's not going to come automatically.

Bottom line we need to get way more athletic athletic teams kills Purdue. I rather have 4 athletic forwards then any 7 Foot Center.

The offense looks poor and that stems from the players not ensuring movement on the offensive end without the ball. Lots of standing around and players forcing shots when they can get those shots at any point in the shot clock. In previous games, Purdue was passing up shots to get better looks later in the shot clock....they aren't doing that today.

Defense hasn't really been the problem outside of the offensive rebounds given up....the offense has been atrocious.
