Who's going to be the new IU coach

The IU job isn’t nearly as sought after as some on here would like to believe. If it were then they would’ve been able to grab someone better than Crean, Miller, Woodson.

NIL isn’t going to be as attractive as having an AD who supports you, a fan base that is patient, players who actually care about the school, etc.

I read the list provided and nothing has changed since IU was turned down by plan A,B and C other than NIL and nobody had NIL then. If nobody had NIL and all things listed now existed then, then why hasn’t IU been able to grab a big name like Stevens or Pearl? The reasons are numerous and include a rabid, unreasonable fan base, a BOT who demands to be in control and an AD who is told what to do by the BOT instead of supporting the coach.

The NIL thing also isn’t a positive due to the things listed above. Who cares if you have $5 million to spend if you don’t get to decide as the coach on who to use it for? We all know it is the donor base who calls the shots at IU and is the only reason the NIL is what it is. So yeah, come coach for us as we will buy you the best players but you don’t get to decide who those players are. That’s how you end up having to start Ballo and Reneau together and why Myles Rice has to start over a better player such as Galloway.

I’ll stop here but it’s obvious IU isn’t as favorable a job as many IU fans want to believe. If it were then they would already have their coach and he would be a big name who has won games both in the B1G and the tourney. The way I see it is that they will go for top coaches, be turned down and then hire their fifth choice and once again have to replace them in a few years.

1. All rabid fanbases are unreasonable when their team is drastically underperforming. Purdue would be no different.

2. The rest of your point is primarily prefaced by the boosters and BOT running the show instead of Dolson and Whitten. While you’re certainly entitled to that opinion and it had been historically accurate, I think you have drastically underestimated the impact of Cignetti’s year on Dolson and Whitten’s power and autonomy over the athletic department. Cignetti changed almost everything for Dolson; now Dolson gets to decide.

Dolson may choose the coach but you’re in denial if you don’t think the money people are gonna make the calls as to where their money goes.

I’m not in denial and I largely agree.

Previously Dolson was all but told to hire Woody. This time the money people will confirm a choice that Dolson makes. That’s a big difference.

The money people gave Dolson a chance at choosing for a sad football program, he chose Cignetti (probably because the money people had no ideas about any of the football options for IU) and now Dolson’s earned the right to choose again.

That’s last year, Baylor is underperforming this year, plus he has a lot of Indiana ties, I doubt he’s their first choice though, I imagine they’ll go hard for Dusty May.
I just think you really overrate the prestige. Obviously you guys are more realistic than IU fans, but you still keep your instate blinders on. IU is an objectively great job, but so are tons of other programs, including like 7-8 in the Big Ten alone. Drew has an objectively better setup at Baylor. He likes the religious affiliation, Baylor has WAY more recent success, he has just as good of a recruiting footprint and he doesn’t have to deal with unrealistic expectations. You may be right, but I’m super skeptical nostalgia for time spent in the state of Indiana will mean squat to him, haha.

He had a lot of Indiana ties, his family has all moved out west now. Dad and Mom I believe now live in Arizona, they moved out there after Bryce was at GCU for a couple years.
