Taylor gets his offer

Add him and Moore to Anderson and Kyle and our QBs are going to be having a field day in Brohms offense.

Can't teach his size and would be a nightmare match up for most DBs

if you read the previous article after Taylor visited Purdue for the bucket game, he said the Purdue coaches informed him he was their #1 WR target. and that he was going to have a home visit and he expected to receive an offer at that visit. And Purdue gave him one.

I have to believe with our current scholarship limit, Purdue wouldn't have bothered giving him a visit or an offer unless the y were serious about him, and felt he was serious about coming to Purdue.

As I posted earlier, he has about 6 offers from Ivy league schools, so I have to believe he is very intelligent. But, he also has offers from teams including Louisville, Minn, UK, Rutgers and WV.

he has said he likes the academics of Purdue which matches his interest from all the Ivy league schools.

two related notes. Louisville was the leader, and today he scheduled an official visit to Louisville for this weekend. I would suspect he's down to Louisville and Purdue and will make a decision n this weekend.

Lost in all the excitement of possibly adding Moore, Anderson and Taylor is the fact WR Bonner has also scheduled an official visit to Purdue this weekend along with Moore and Stepp... This should be a very interesting weekend for Purdue WR recruiting.

I think we will know moore on Sunday.

Not sure if Moore is a sure thing for this weekend.

If he's all that serious about academics he shouldn't even bother with Louisville. Just saying...

well, I sort of expected him to commit last night based on his previous comments. he expected to receive an offer and he received one. and he has an official visit to Louisville scheduled for this weekend. I guess I can wait 3 more days for a decision.

Since we don't have a TE commitment, with his size, he could fill the role of a non-blocking pass catching TE. Purdue has had a lot of great TE's who were more of a receiver than blocker.

Leave him at WR if he has the speed. We dont have any size at the position now and im not the biggest fan of smurfs playing the outside positions.

Put some weight on him and with that speed at TE he could be an NFL prospect.

Yeah, we tried that sort of thing with Jason Werner at LB. I still swear he should have been a safety and that the extra weight caused a lot of his injury issues.

If the kid has a size advantage at his positoin and has enough speed, leave him there. Kids like Hopkins are the ones you want to grow into TEs.

I'm looking at it from a depth perspective. We have recruited 0 TEs in this class.

We have WR Hamilton as a redshirt. And we have commitments from Anderson, Bonner and Kyle. And Brohm is still going after Moore and a tenn de-commit

Taylor is a totally different type of WR than the other WRs Brohm is recruiting. Maybe we could run a double TE set with him.

Rubbing my crystal ball ....err...yes that's it, I believe? Its "The Future"
.
Sept 21, 2021 at ND..... redshirt soph QB Jack Plummer finds his roommate and redshirt soph WR Kory Taylor for 4 TD's in a PU upset win in South Bend........,

Breaking record set by Hanratty - Seymour in 1966 capping the Boilers return to South Bend in the renewal of the Shillelaglah series!

Exactly what we are missing. Big WR who can get past his man and make plays. We need this guy. It would open up the Brohmfence and allow us to sling the rock often.

Wolegib doesn’t know how scholarships work

I know how to count. With our current commitments, we're currently 5 over. We are still targeting an additional 5-10 players.

With a new coach, you can expect some attrition. but I highly doubt brohm will say good bye to 10 current players, just to add some highly rated recruits. And the BIG 10 imposed new rules several years ago about scholarships.

I believe posters should read this article about the 1 year verses 4 year scholarships. Times have changed at least in the BIG 10.

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/...ntees-four-year-scholarships-student-athletes

the BIG 10 is one of 5 power conferences that mandates giving out a 4 year, not 1 year scholarship. As long as a current player is maintaining his academic standards, Brohm can't just cut his scholarship.

http://www.news-press.com/story/spo...holarships-not-four-year-guarantees/74009542/

So if we're 5 over, and we add 1 more, that means 6 have to go. and most likely, those 6 will be recruits and maybe a couple of current players. .

There’s nothing that says the scholarship has to be tied to say...football. We could “cut” a kid but have the school award him with an academic scholarship and be within our rights here.

It also doesn’t cover a kid leaving to continue to pursue football maybe at a lower level.

Room will be made and it’s not going to be recruits.

let's be honest. Read both articles! there are no more 1 year renewable athletic scholarships in the BIG 10. The rules changed. Brohm can't just cut a player who is making solid academic progress to make room for a new recruit. If a current player leaves, he has to do so voluntarily. And right now, Brohm has to find 5 current players or recruits that will either voluntarily leave or will have flunked out. Do you know of 5 current players who plan on leaving or flunking out ? I don't.

it appears as of today, Brohm wants to add at least 1 RB, 2 WRs, 1 DE, and 1 S. Being 5 over the limit, if Brohm wants to add 5 more, he has to find 10 that will voluntarily leave. Do you honestly believe there are 10 current players that will either flunk out or voluntarily leave? I don't. to me if Brohm adds a Safety, you'll see a safety or CB decommit. If brohm adds a WR, you'll see a WR decommit. if Brohm adds a DE, you'll see a DE or LB or S decommit. I'm not going to name names, but it should be obvious Brohm is not going to have a class of 6 WRs.

We're currently 5 players over our scholarship limit. Brohm can no longer just terminate a scholarship like the old days. He can persuade players to leave. But realistically, how many players do you believe he can persuade to leave? I'm sure Brohm will find room , but based on those two links above, that room must also come from our current recruits.

PJ Fleck questions your theory. 13 transfers after the season.

If I actually wanted to play football, I’d transfer. There are plenty of scholly guys on the roster who will never contribute. Reminding players of this can help make a decision to leave easier.

I’m sure you’d like to think the Purdue would never do this...but to compete in high end football you almost have to. Most signing classes are 25 players. That’s 100 players every 4 years and doesn’t take into account the retention of 5th years.

What has happened to those 20 or so players at other programs that are no longer on the roster? Here’s a hint...they were told they’d never play so they left.

Same thing happened to us last year and same thing will happen this year. I look for us to take a class of 22-23 and drop several current players.

It is what it is.

Does the B1G have a similar rule that the SEC has in that they can have a certain number of scholarship players on campus above the limit of 85 until the start of fall camp? My guess is that Brohm signs the number he thinks he needs and then allows all available players to make a statement about their value to the program. If there are players who haven't shown the growth needed, Brohm may explain he and the staff will find them a better solution for the student athlete at another school of their own choice.

My guess: At least 5 players are going to transfer out after the bowl game and another 5-7 after spring camp.

I believe the rule is you can't have more than 85 scholarshipped players enrolled at one time. So for early enrollee you need a player to leave or graduate in December

This is where I'm coming from. I can see some players moving on. but it is going to have to be their decision.

I also believe after this year, using PJ Fleck is a bad example of having a lot of transfers. Minn seemed a lot better before Fleck and his transfers arrived.

I believe we all like and want many of these new targets to come to Purdue. But the reality is, we're 5 over right now. If we add another recruit, somebody will have to leave.

I want to add Taylor and Moore to our receivers. I wanted to add Stepp. I want to add Israel and Arak. I want to add all 5 of those players. But I know to get my wishes, we'll probably lose 3 recruits at their respective positions. and names of players who may soon be decommits are already being suggested by others more knowledgeable and closer to the program than me.

This is your opinion and yours alone.

We'll know more after early signing day and I assume some offers will be dropped to kids who are committed, yet don't sign in the early signing period. From there, I still expect us to have to make room for 6-7 new additions which will mean current players will have to go. I can pick out 15 kids with schollies on the roster right now with no chance to contribute.

You don't think the player and the coaches already know that and have already had discussions?

There will be transfers for sure.

The bowl game likely delayed some transfer announcements by a month.

4.4 speed=Kory Taylor, 4.5= speed Jordy Nelson and Adam Theilen-2 elite NFL receivers. If the kid can catch a football, I say leave him at WR.

I’m not completely sold that he’s a 4.4 guy. I saw an article on his team’s receiving corps and they claimed another receiver on that team runs 4.4 and that Taylor runs 4.5 or below I believe.

I don’t buy that that high school has a faster receiving corps than the Green Bay Packers.

Still, I believe he can play, hence the interest from Purdue.

KT is a 4.4 guy. Kory ran a 4.48 at OSU's camp and a 4.46 (ish) at Duke. Here's the video from Duke and notice that there are about 5-6 coaches recording it- thats because they didn't believe the times they were getting for the first 2 times he ran it (this was 3rd take). The other player on KT's team who I think you're referring to is Daevon Anderson. I honesty don't know his exact 40 time but the dude is fast too. Easily could have been a D1 recruit without the academic issues...
