How about the "pod" in Des Moines? Kansas, Kentucky and IU. Those are going to be some expensive round of 32 tickets!

I mean, I don't think there's loads of IU/Kentucky fans in Des Moines. Kansas alone would make it a tough one.

Kentucky fans travel like crazy to tournament sites, and not just in their geographic region. I'm not sure any other fan-base does it better or in such numbers.

There doesn't have to be that many that live there. IU and KY will both have big crowds on top of Kansas and their fans. It will be an expensive round of 32 ticket.

Yes, IU always has a huge crowd in attendance when playing the Hawkeyes at University of Iowa. LOL! No clue why you think iu will have large # of fans drive to Des Moines to watch that team.

IU will have more fans in Des Moines than most teams would. Unfortunately for them two of those teams are Kentucky and Kansas. I wonder who Kansas fans would pull for on Saturday. My guess is that they would get behind IU in a matchup against Kentucky.

Sorry, not sure if you were TIC or not?? IU will have a very good crowd there.

You are right, the decades of IU fans traveling in large numbers to tournament games comes to a screeching halt this year.

UK fans have the farthest to travel (~660 miles from Lexington), then IU (~500) and KU (~235). UK fans save all year to follow their Cats to tournaments, since most fans in the Commonwealth are not able to get tickets to see them live in Rupp. If you were watching the UK-TX A&M championship game in Nashville (arena capacity 19.400), you heard the announcer mention there was about 19,200 people wearing blue with about 200 over there (pointing to a corner) wearing Maroon. t's also UK Spring Break this week, so the Thurs/Sat games would be attractive to those planning to drive and still return for class on Monday.

I think the blues of KU and UK will clearly outnumber the Crimsons in this location.

U.K. Travels very well as does IU obviously. The thing is KU got a head start on ticket sales.

Single sessions Thursday are $140- $$600 and full strips are $400-$1,600 on stub hub. Fans can do better on the street although if IU does play KY, all bets are off. Hopefully the KY fans get priced out of the market allowing lots of Crimson inside.

Tickets are more expensive for Purdue's session in Denver....albeit it's because ticket availability is low (less than 35 tickets on StubHub).

There were a lot more tickets available when I bought mine. Which means that session is selling. Wouldn't be surprised to see a good turnout of Purdue fans. I doubt UALR or Iona have as many. Maybe Iowa St.

A friend is in Des Moines, he said there are a ton of IU and Kentucky fans already there and rolling in and it was only Tuesday morning that he reported this. He also reported tons of Kansas as well. Also told me there was just a sprinkling of other fans but did talk to some people from Chattanooga at a bar on Monday night. I told him to try not to spend too much of his hard earned money because IU will be lucky to get past Chattanooga due to the "Crean Factor", and the Saturday game tickets will need to be scalped (he said he wasn't going to the Saturday games if IU doesn't win). He and I go back and forth on Purdue and Indiana as you can imagine. He did throw me a bone and predicted a blow-out win over ARK-Little Rock

Iowa State will have a decent number. It's not a short drive (9 hours), but I'm guessing they have a good number of alumni there plus also in their surrounding states like Nebraska.

Overall, NCAA Tourney games have decent demand depending on the city. Denver hasn't had it in a while, so it's an attraction. It's not like a North Carolina where they get a first round site every single year...

Yes, there will be plenty of Purdue fans. They are already rolling into the city in droves (as of 11pm last night), so they are ready to party, ready to rock the clubbing scene, and ready to create overall and complete chaos. If you are UALR, you are freaking out at all the Gold and Black. Shoot around is today, should be fantastic. If you want the full agenda, I can post it.

Word is that Purdue has sold out their entire allotment at this point for the weekend. That has to be a decent number of tickets to go with any last minute ticket buyers on the outside or at the ticket window. I think there will be a good crowd there supporting Purdue. Any Purdue grads in the Denver area know of the alumni base out that way?

When it's realized that IU has lost that first game....tix will be super cheap. Just like last weekend in Indy.
good example, i heard it was a mass exodus and that there were tons of ticked off IU ticket holders and Crean was the major catalyst in their disappointment. They were definitely cheesed off at him.

Thanks for contributing to the thread.
I contributed my opinion. Who cares Des Moines being a tough ticket, one that doesn't involve Purdue. On the other hand, thanks on behalf of all the board for sharing all your wisdom with us, each and every post.

There are active threads on here right now about the following:

Kentucky
Mateen Cleaves
Izzo
A prosecutor in Michigan
Vanderbilt

So why does this thread bother you so much? There are over 20 posts on here from people that were interested and commenting on the Des Moines tournament site so obviously they cared enough to discuss it. You decide to offer " who the fick cares".

Unlike you, I won't try to speak for the whole board, only myself.

Purdue sold their allotment out - but allotments are 450 tickets, not exactly a dominant number in an 18,000 seat arena.

Purdue has over 5,000 alumni in the state of Colorado. Obviously not all in Denver - and most alumni living far away do not remain terribly connected and/or obviously not everyone cares about sports (i.e. 4,000 of our 30,000 students have basketball tickets).

Kentucky fans will outnumber IU fans in Des Moines because they don't know any better than to go even though they can't afford to go and if they run out of gas, they hitchhike to the game and then call their mom to come get them after it's all over.
