The cause of the downturn of Purdue basketball was primarily related to talent evaluation mistakes in the 2009-2011 classes. The attrition of Hale, Lawson, little AJ was a good thing.....because none of them were close to being good enough to play in the big ten.
The reason Purdue basketball is in good shape for forseeable future.....talent evaluation has improved dramatically.
2012 - RD, AJH, RJ, Simpson
2013 - Bryson, Basil, KS
2014 - VE, Haas, DM, PJT, JT
The least talented college players in that mix are Bryson and PJ.....jury still out on Taylor. Nobody bats 100% in their talent evaluation.....and character evaluation.
If every three year period only has one character mistake.....and a couple talent evaluation mistakes....Purdue bball will be in great shape. I don't even really consider PJT a talent evaluation mistake......as I think Painter knew what he was getting with PJT.
Bryson matured physically earlier....than most high school players. His offensive game just doesn't translate real well at the big ten level. He needs to be at a level where he is stronger than opposing guards......and where there is a weak second line of defense. Because of all the talent on the team....Scott could've been serviceable next year......but he obviously wanted a much bigger role on offense.
Win/win - Scott might get a chance to play more like he did in high school......at a lower division. Purdue gets the use of an important scholly for two years.
