True or False:

Swanigan's decision will determine Painter's future at Purdue.

I'm going to go with True on this one. In my opinion, Matt Painter will never get to a Final Four without a McDonald's All American. I also don't see him getting a much better chance than with Swanigan. If Hammons returns for his Senior year, Purdue will be very good next year, but still probably an elite guard away from a Final Four. However, having Swanigan would put us in BigTen Championship consideration without Hammons and with Hammons would make us an elite team nationwide.

Lose both Hammons and Swanigan and I hate to say it, but Purdue is a middle of the road Big Ten Team next year. Painter has to close on an elite player soon or people will be calling for his head in the next 2 years. To the contrary, if he lands Swanigan, he could ride the momentum for the next decade. Painter has never had more urgency to close on a player than he should have right now.

False.

I think Painter has returned to recruiting kids that fit the system and culture. I hope this includes Swanigan (we WILL feed him in the post so a great fit!). However, I dont think Painter's future depends on it.

False. Purdue culture is happy with a semi competitive team that makes the dance most years and very occasionally has a great team fans can put their hopes in.....that is Painter all the way.

CMP will eventually land a top recruit. The timing now couldn't be better, because the pieces are in place. When Gene got Big Dog, we only had Zo to help. We have a lot of talent on this team and CS could be the crown jewel if he were to come. Will he, I'd say we have about a 10% chance, but who knows. CMP is safe as long as he keeps recruiting the right players. He will make a few more runs at ff before he is through. Funny thing is, if he could just get their the first time, I think other appearances would be close behind. When we went in 80, Rose left.

Disagree. Purdue was well poised for a ff run went Hummel went down with a couple of games left. Purdue was easily top 3 in the nation at that point. If Hummel didnt get hurt at minny, very good chance for a ff with no burger boys

You ever hear "You can't lose what you've never had"? Painter has never had Swanigan. He may yet get him, but I think he goes to Duke or UK. And no, it's not the end of Painter at Purdue, nor does it mean this group of kids can't get to a FF. And thus, there is no urgency as you falsely want some to believe.

I was surprised Painter was able to get Hammons and even more surprised he got Haas. So maybe he has figure something out about recruiting.

Pleas post pic for confirmation. Thx.
This might be the most important question ever asked on this forum. Ever.

FALSE

There are simply too many kids, too many variables, and too many situations to make any kind of statement like this.

What if Swanigan picks Purdue and, God forbid, the kid gets sick or is injured. Nobody can predict what kind of college career he will have, let alone how his competition will stack up. What if we get that 6'10" PF out of California instead? ...or the 6' 9" forward/center from Georgia? Maybe Swanigan goes to Duke and does not affect the teams in the midwest in the slightest? What if Izzo decided to retire after this year's run? Too many variations for your proposition to make sense.

False. For the time being, CMP is not going anywhere in all likelihood. Don't mistake this for what I THINK should happen, but I understand the reality of the situation, his buyout, Purdue's lack of committment to creating a great program (mainly with how Purdue funds athletics, or rather doesn't) and Painters relationship with Burke. Now a new AD could change that, but I don't see Burke leaving any time too soon. When he does, who knows what might happen. There is a chance that when Daniels leaves a new President could come in and see the value in having really good and profitable Mens Football and bball programs and convince the board to pump some money into both programs, but that is a long shot at best.

Yep. We're not Wichita State or Butler, nor do we strive to be.

False. I see OP's point, but think next year's team will be ranked from the pre-season assuming Hammons comes back, and would be expected to exceed this year's expectations. It feels as if Purdue is on an upswing with or without Swanigan, due to having more experience and some really good, young, quickly-developing players and the leadership of Davis. Based on expected outcome next season, I see recruiting being easier over the next year than the harder sell MP would have now or last year. Better recruiting, better team = no hot seat for MP. Swanigan would make us elite though.

True for most programs...probably false for Purdue because we are content being average. But I say True.

If Swanigan does come, Hammons stays and Vince moves to the 3, there is no reason we can't win the Big 10 and make a run at a Final Four with that frontline and Painter will have a chance to sign a new long term contract and be at Purdue forever.

But if he doesn't come and Hammons goes pro, finishing top 4 in the BIG 10 again is going to be quite a challenge.

I would rather have nic Moore, assuming everyone comes back. Don't get me wrong, love to have Biggie, but Moore fills a bigger need for us, especially since they are both 1 year players most likely.

Agree. Can't turn down a Burger Boy but with AJ, Haas and Taylor we are pretty good in the post. But if AJ leaves Biggie would be a big get, pun intended.
Nic Moore would be nice but not probable. Maybe a juco long and lanky pg.

I,don't normally pass along stuff from the pay board, but according to Brian there is no reason to believe Nic Moore will ever be a Boiler. Just a rumor started here that grew legs.

I am with you Wendy. I think Matt needs to recruit Swanigan like his life depends on it.

If Swanigan comes, I see it as at least a two year commitment. He will want to stick around for another year with Haas.

Yeah the only way I see it happening is if smu gets in NCAA trouble this summer, or Larry brown leaves.

i think both have a chance of happening. and that is why i believe the nic moore rumor/wishful thinking exists in Boilerland.

i posted about Moore over a month ago. NO KNOWLEDGE whatsover. just wishful thinking and connecting dots of.....IF Nic would leave because of NCAA/Coaching issue at SMU, where would he go? The connecting dots was that when he was in High School Purdue was serious (an asst coach thought he would be our best recruit) but supposedly Painter passed on him due to size. And speculation back then was that Nic wanted PU if they should offer.

Obviously LOTS AND LOTS of speculation about what took place years ago and what hasnt taken place (but could?) at SMU. So,somebody else had asked what kind of legs the Nic Moore rumor had. I dont think it has any legs. I thin it is simply people like me trying to connect dots WITH NO KNOWLEDGE and trying to establish something that could make sense although it is really just wishful thinking.....
