Great pickup potentially...a really solid player, a leader, and a guy with a ton of experience as well...all at a position where it is needed for Purdue. If he is healthy, he will be a difference maker...even if he is not the Spike that he was before his injury, he is a guy that will help the team and the program I think.

The injury is the question but it's a no-lose pick up with our scholarship situation. Hopefully it means that Carsen won't have to play big minutes as the primary ball handler unless he's absolutely ready to do that.

Agree with you on both points...given the interest in him, I have to think that the injury matter is not near the issue that it was. Regardless, it is a no-lose pickup for next year with the scholarships that Purdue has available, and he could really help and make a difference.

Actually, I think this allows Carsen to come in and play his more natural position as a combo/2 guard. This plays in to the type of ball I think Painter really wants to play next season. Having two of the three of PJ, CE, and Spike on the floor and combined with VE, Mathias, Cline, Smotherman, etc. should provide lots of ball movement to open the lane more for Haas to operate down low. The offense next season will look a little different because Haas is a true down-low post player, which should bode even better for the guards and forwards next season. Haas knows not to float out at times and will play within 8 feet of the basket.

I like this strategically, and on offense it could be great fun. Unfortunately, playing two players at 6' or so can be a nightmare on defense.

If we play CE as a 2, we need a 6'4 or so PG .... so CE can guard their 1 and our PG can guard their 2.

Love this....PJ and CE win in this addition....invaluable what Spike will teach them if they listen up and share the minutes for the team this year.

Will put PJ in a great spot for his Senior year and CE ready as a Sophomore.....

Great chess piece move by Painter and Purdue.....

Welcome Spike and Boiler Up!

the way I look at it, we lose a yr. of KS but gain a yr. of Spike, plus he knows how to beat a press.

I think this is great news. Nothing like having an experienced player and from the same league. Big get for Purdue hopefully he is and stays healthy.

Looks like a solid addition.

I'd also like to take a moment to tip my hat to PJ Thompson. In an era of "me first" prima donnas in college sports, this guy has watched his own coach recruit an upper-class point guard every year he's been at Purdue.

Not once has PJ sulked, at least not publicly. Rather, he just keeps plugging away and making valuable contributions to the team.

I'm glad to have Albrecht on the team because PG is a position where it always pays to have more than one available. But my respect for PJ keeps growing.

A couple nice quotations from the espn.com story:

"They were one of the first schools to contact me," Albrecht said. "I can tell they really wanted me. I didn't want to be the second or third option for a school, and I felt that Coach [Matt] Painter was the most honest through the process. It's a good fit and is close to home." ---- So at least one guy thinks Painter does something right when it comes to recruiting.

"P.J. was a big reason why I am going to Purdue," Albrecht said. "He was great and said how much he wanted me to come. I didn't want to a situation where there would be hostility with other guys because I'm coming in for one year."
---- Again, I have to credit PJ for keeping his composure and putting the team first through all these point guard additions.

and that's where cmp deserves more credit regarding recruiting. some of the solid 3-star guys pan out better than higher 4-star ones.
many here have been pretty down on pjt in the past/various times, but that is what you'd like to see vs some of our other previous guys w/much more me-first attitudes.

Solid addition and we have the room, so absolutely nothing to lose in this situation. Good pickup by CMP.

It can be pretty hard to find the balance with "me first guys" and guys who put the team first. Some of the me first guys can be cancers, but the put the team first guys can be passive and freeze up on the big stage. We've seen both. Moore and Hummel were two guys who were pretty balanced... they would go get what was theirs, but they helped their teammates and did put the team first. Of course Moore reportedly was close to leaving at one point, so we might look at him really differently had that come to fruition.

Four things:
WIn WIn situation for Purdue and Spike
He has been to a National Championship game and you can't teach that...invaluable experience
Should be a great mentor for Edwards
PJ is a class act and doesn't always get the credit he deserves

PJ is an example of what's called "recruiting high character guys".

This is a big deal and great addition. I give Painter credit for landing him...while blame him for being in a position to need this.....ugh...again. It's getting old.
