This is a tough question.

I was speculating on the reasons why I thought Stephens was going to transfer, and some guys got upset about how people doing this were being mean (whatever) and that the players read the boards. I didn't see anything wrong with it, but then...

On the other hand, people were talking about how bad R. Davis had been playing lately and they, to a large, degree, put a huge share of the loss at IU on Davis. I read that and thought, "Jesus, Davis is a great leader and Purdue work-ethic guy. Nobody should be bad-mouthing him." I was offended by that thread.

I posted on here that I think Painter should be on the hot seat. I did it at the end of the last two years and this year before the season started, and people jumped all over me for not being a real fan or whatever. People complained about my timing, saying in the spring I was hurting recruiting and in the fall that I was casting negative thoughts on a promising season. I saw nothing wrong with those threads; isn't that what forums are for? But some were really offended. On the other hand....

One time we had a thread on here making fun of a former IU player's sister. I (and many others) asked and the thread was quickly taken down. So there is a line that can't be crossed. I think some of the attacks on Crean ( the edited video ones) are over the line on here.

I think this is a good question: What is okay, and what is over the line. Can we question and complain about the players? I say, to a degree, yes. I never for a second buy that "they're kids just playing a game" argument. They are adults making choices and getting a free education and they are treated like gods around the campus. So I think it is fair game to complain about players. What do you think?

Given the way trolls (not calling you one) are allowed to romp around on this board, I don't think there are all that many things that will get you banished. You're entitled to talk about Stephens & speculate about him leaving or not, but you have to be willing to accept that others will not like it and tell you about it.

Different people are sensitive to different things, to your point. If the goal is that no one ever be offended, then the only thing we could do is post A) facts and B) positive comments. Anything critical, even based on facts, would be out because of the risk of offense, and that would suck for sure. One thing I do think everyone can do is think a little more about how we say things-- can you get a given critical point across in an objective fashion without it being an attack on someone's loyalty to the team, for example?

I'd think hot women with big hooters combined with beer should be a great topic on here. ;)

i read a comment a while back and i do not remember who said it but thought it was good. don't say anything on this board that you wouldn't say if you were visiting the guy in his home, sitting in his living room when responding to a particular poster. i would add if posting about someone.
