Some highlights:
Some immediate thoughts:
1) I like his shooting.
2) His first year, he'll be totally tossed around by Haas (assuming Haas is still here). Should make him tougher and encourage him to put on weight
3) Apparently a smart kid (ACT 29)
4) Maybe could develop into a Frank Kaminsky type of player. (Was Kaminsky very skinny coming out of high school? He didn't really blow up until Junior year at Wisconsin.)
Here's a thought/question:
Is it easier to put on weight or to learn to shoot? I would guess the former. That is, I think it is more likely that a good shooter puts on weight than it is that a meaty athlete learns to shoot.

Would rather have him than Tillman or Battey. Very high ceiling
I look forward to putting MSU and IU in Haarms' way!
Very pleased with this pickup. Other than possibly JJJ, Haarms has the highest ceiling of anyone on our radar. Might take him till he is an upperclassman to really shine, but could be the kind of player you design the team around.

If he gets to play behind Haas for a year, I could see him being ready his sophomore year. If not, he may not be an impact until he's a jr. or senior.I like the pick up. Won't be an immediate impact player but after a year or so in the program should begin to pay dividends. I like European style big men....the can usually shoot and handle the ball. I have always said Purdue is for the most part a four year program and this guy should be good by his junior and senior year.
I don't know...but do you ever see someone Manley's size that wants to play a 5? Everyone wants to get to the NBA where they play a smaller position. If you are going to play a 5...get them early. Course, I REALLY prefer playing two 4's and letting them both go out and inside depending on what is working...Welcome Matt! Does anyone know if Manley wants to be a 4? Or is his game a def 5?
Put on weight...look at teh public. more people with extra weight than can shoot. Some highlights:

I think that this is a good point. Swanigan is a good example who chose Purdue in large part because Purdue had 2 seven footers. Having a 7'2" center should make Purdue more attractive to other recruits. I think that it also helps that Haarms can move outside and free up the lane because it gives his teammates room to attack inside.I don't know...but do you ever see someone Manley's size that wants to play a 5? This kid is a project, but man the upside is off the charts. 7'2", Dutch, with an outside shot, can't help but think Rik Smits.......discuss.
Good start and fills an immediate need.
project wouldn't be the word I would use. he is skilled and reasonably coordinated..just weak and not a great athlete at this time. He is a very solid pickup. Matt Ten Dam and Marcuis were projects originallyThis kid is a project, but man the upside is off the charts. 7'2", Dutch, with an outside shot, can't help but think Rik Smits.
Welcome Matt!!!
I guess by project I meant that it seems he isn't physically ready to go play in the B1G right now. But wow, some great raw materials to work with there. If haas stays, we won't need him much next year, so he really has 2 years to bulk up.project wouldn't be the word I would use. he is skilled and reasonably coordinated..just weak and not a great athlete at this time. I think he'll redshirt. A year focusing on bulking up and practicing against Haas will pay huge dividends if he stays around for 5 years.I am interested to see if Painter redshirts him. I'm assuming if Swanigan stays he redshirts but if Swanigan leaves maybe not?
Swanigan is gone barring something unexpected. I see him averaging 15pts and 9.5 rebounds per game and getting drafting in the first round.
