Seriously look at the upsets in the tournament. Cuonzo had 2 lottery picks. Look I have issues with Painter. Fans think I am backing him. But this Fire Painter mantra after losing in a single elimination game due to frustration with the program over the years in the tourney. Partly responsible by Gene Keady is silly. Especially when Purdue has a good team coming back for next year. Look at how Northern Iowa won.
Looking at Purdue's roster. They should be good for the next 2 years and Painter has 3 years left on his contract. So in essence if the program struggles going forward Painter will either be fired or let go in the next 3 years. It's about money and by making the tournament the conference is awarded money. You get a chance once you make the tournament.
Personally I like Matt Painter and he is an Indiana High School BBall player and a Purdue guy. You should take that into consideration when you are ragging on the guy.
Yes Purdue blew that reg lead but the reality is Little Rock made every play they had to make to win that game. Purdue was losing in OT and had a chance to take a 3pt lead and I believe Painter would have fouled in that situation. Unfortunately Cline missed that FT and Little Rock made another big shot of many big shots. Before that play that big man for ark hit a 3 that bounced backwards to go in. If that bounces the other way Purdue has the ball with a 4 pt lead and 21 secs left.
YET you want Painter Fired! BTW how do you think Cline would feel knowing his missed FT potentially got Painter fired. So it's just silly to think Painter will be fired. If you want to complain. Complain about the fact Painter did not have better PG's which is on him with the transfers.
