Selection Sunday thread

When the chairman of the selection committee is the UNC AD, IU didn't have a chance. He made it a point to say he didn't vote on UNC matters. But his buddies on the committee did.
They showed the Stat where UNC was 1-12 against Quad 1 opponents.
NFW should they have been in before WV, OSU or IU.

You always ask how to measure what something or someone is worth. IU spent $6-$8M and I’m saying that it definitely was not worth it to spend that much just to turn down the NIT and miss the tournament for the 7th time in 9 years 😂 😂
Ok. Then it's only fair to see what the 4 #1 and #2 seeds spent. Would that prove the point?

If we make a run, I believe we could face TN in Indy? That would be absolutely hilarious. No matter what, I just want TN to get knocked out by a B10 team.

Possible for Purdue to face Tennessee but not probable or likely - would be the Regional Final.

Illinois (6), Kentucky (3), and Tennessee (2) in the bottom of the bracket. Also interesting that Tennessee, Purdue, and Gonzaga were all in the Midwest Region last year and now this year.

I don’t think they did anywhere close to that but just wanted to make fun of IU

Lenny should know that without saying......a Ben Dreith special for DwayneP.....haha.

A very odd development. There are no BIG10 teams in the NIT. Is that a first? I heard IU turned them down. But I would have thought some other big 10 team would be included

I understand the committee's criteria on seeding, but did you ever think you'd see a team finish 2nd in the B1G regular season, win the B1G tournament and get a 5 seed? To top it off, they are playing a very good #12 seed. UM is only favored by 2.5 points!!

No, not at all and when the camera was on them during selection, none seemed too happy!

The main argument is that their metrics weren't strong, at least compared to Purdue. Add to that that the BTT doesn't/didn't matter, especially when it comes to the final. I haven't looked at the S-curve list, were they the top 5?

Yep, #17

I get the metrics, I don't follow it as closely as you do, but I'm pretty into it and had to explain to some friends why we were "ahead" of UM.

My point was strictly from a historical perspective, did you ever think you would see that happen for a runner-up in regular season and tournament champ? Plus they have a very tough 5/12 game.

Agree completely.

Yep, and I for one, love it. Teams need to realize that there are consequences to playing a mediocre non-conference schedule. When you lose to almost all of the decent teams you play in the Non-con, you give yourself a much lower margin for error and limit your own upside.

I'd love teams to be encouraged to play schedules like Purdue did this year.
