Love that Odom went to the SEC to get a QB. Hopefully he's hitting the SEC hard for skilled positions players and speed. We have big opportunities at RB, WR, LB (ok, pretty much everywhere, but you get the point) for guys to come in, get starting roles and make an impact.
Speed, speed, speed. That's the name of the game.

Walters went to the SEC for a QB too. Hopefully we find better luck this time.

speed is NOT the name of the game . Look at DB Stokes. he was one of the fastest DBs in college. he's been a total bust for the Green Bay packers.

Look at Jerry Rice and Don Driver. Neither player had tremendous speed. But they could catch the ball and make plays and be elusive.

Look at those two portal receivers who came to us from Georgia. They both had a lot of speed. Look at that WR we claimed from Notre Dame a few years back. He had tremendous speed, but never opened the play book, and was a bust at Notre dame and a bust for Purdue.

Look at the Packers' WR Watson. he has a lot of speed and a lot of non-contact hamstring injuries. There have been many other receivers who had a lot of speed but couldn't catch the ball or knew how to run a route other than a fly pattern. or be able to get open.

Speed is nice and helpful, however,

Performance >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Speed.

I'll disagree on this 100% of the time.
Speed will make up for a lot of deficiencies in other areas. You picking out a couple of examples doesn't change that fact.
Tiller built his teams on speed first, then figured out where to play the guy.
I would agree there's a difference between track speed and football speed, but there's also a difference between SEC and B10 speed. It's the reason (percentage-wise) that B10 teams lose to SEC teams.

Let's go to the SEC for productive lineman, not second string players that were hurt and didn't produce.
Line play in 2025 will determine our level of success. The portal is full of QB's and skilled players.

Back in the 80s, Purdue DB Chris Dishman had tremendous speed. He still got burnt a lot. Still had a decent NFL career though.

I like that he’s looking to the SEC and everywhere for talent to pull in. I think the opportunities you mentioned are real but I think many people underestimate the talent Mockabee brings to the table. And the past two years he’s performed behind an offensive line that struggled. I believe he could be very very good in a well managed offensive scheme.

Mock is a decent back but he doesn’t have home run or big play ability and still fumbles too much. I like him as a pass catcher and getting 7-9 carries but I’d like to have a guy with big play ability getting 15+ touches.

We can afford Reggie Love, not Jeremiah Love.
